Birding at Basai Wetland
This is a quick birding trip to Gurgaon's Basai Wetland. This place is now at a very high risk of loosing it bird life due to construction and urbanization in and around it. There is is group that has challenged the authorities by a PIL and the case is in Court. But for now it is a fantastic getaway for a birding trip and you will get a lot of migratory and rare bird life specially during winters and through out the year in general.
Smoky Warbler : Birds of Basai wetland, just outside New Delhi city
The smoky warbler (Phylloscopus fuligiventer) is a species of Old World warbler in the Phylloscopidae family. It is found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, and Nepal.
Basai wetland:
It is within 10 minutes of Sultanur Bird Sanctuary, and is on a narrow road leading into the fields. However, during the winter season, you can find the most amazing migratory populations here. The whole of wetland has been created through water getting stalled in these fields and attracting thousands of migratory birds. Since the place is pretty remote, with almost no people movement in the area (only farmers going back and forth), it is an ideal spot for the birds.
This is a must visit during winters and is one of the only places nearby where there is a good chance of catching the resident Sarus Cranes

Birds of Sultanpur National Park, Gurgaon
For over one hundred years now, Sultanpur wetland has been attracting birds of different kinds. It is a seasonal wetland dried out in summer and filled with water during monsoon. The potential of the area as bird sanctuary was first noticed by an ornithologist and Honorary Secretary of Delhi Bird Watching Society, Mr. Peter Jackson. He wrote a letter to the Prime Minister of India, Smt. Indira Gandhi in 1970 and demanded the need to declare the area as a bird sanctuary. Following the letter the area was declared as Sanctuary in the year 1972 which was later upgraded to National Park on 5th July, 1991 covering an area of 1.42 Sq.KM. Sultanpur National Park is famous for its migratory birds. Every winter, park is full of several migratory bird species coming from Europe, Central Asia and Siberia. Winter birds start arriving in the month of September and rest here till March-April. Over 250 resident and migratory bird species have been reported in the park. Sultanpur National Park is undoubtedly a bird's paradise and a most sought after place near Delhi for bird watchers and photographers to congregate and enjoy the diversity of avian fauna.
Happy Birding ! Enjoy nature's most incredible creations without disturbing them.
