Basel, Switzerland Travel Video
Basel is Switzerland's oldest university city. Historic landmarks of the city include the large market square with its richly decorated red sandstone town hall and the late Romanesque-Gothic cathedral. During a walk through the old town, past small boutiques, antique book shops but also shops of modern designers, a visit to the Läckerli Huus to try the traditional Basel honey cake is well worth your while. Basel is tradition-conscious and open-minded at the same time, a fact born out by several modern buildings designed by renowned architects such as Herzog & de Meuron, Mario Botta, Diener & Diener and Richard Meyer.
Almost 40 museums make Basel the city with the highest density of museums in the country. Internationally known museums, such as the Basel Art Museum, the museum devoted to the iron sculptor Jean Tinguely, the Fondation Beyeler and the Museum of Cultures attract a great many visitors, as do several galleries and playhouses. Basel is among other things home to the symphony orchestra and the chamber orchestra as well as the musical theatre featuring international productions. And a wide range of classical and contemporary productions are shown on the stages of the Basel Theatre and the Playhouse.

However it also has charm all year around. It is perfect for a romantic gateway or even a short family break. Basel is a paradise for museum lovers too. More information about the video content bellow:
1. Basel Stadt is one of the 26 cantons of Switzerland, and the smallest of the cantons by area. The canton Basel-Stadt consists of three municipalities: Riehen, Bettingen, and the city Basel itself.
2. The history of Basel begins with ancient Celtic communities around 2,500 years ago, followed by the Romans just a few centuries later, who developed nearby Augusta Raurica as an important Swiss settlement. The earliest mention of the city's former name 'Basilea' is from ancient documents dated to 374 AD. The middle of the 14th century marked a troubled time for the city. Roughly half of all the residents living in Basel were wiped out by devastating plague epidemics. Then, just as the city was beginning to pick itself up and move forward, a catastrophic earthquake arrived, on 18th October 1356. This was actually one of the most significant earthquakes ever to have occurred in Central Europe and the damage was great. Basel was virtually destroyed, with damage extending across the Swiss border into neighbouring France and Germany.
3. Basel is a very picturesque city with old buildings, narrow streets and a lot of interesting history. It is known as a European culture center with over 40 museums, 25 theaters, operas and ballet and countless art galleries. If you’re interested in that kind of thing you could easily spend a few days here going from museum to gallery to museum. If this kind of thing doesn’t interest you, there are still quite a few things to see on your trip to Basel. You can also find many outside art sculptures spread out all over the city, and it’s nice to just walk around the city stumbling upon them.
4. One of the oldest intellectual centers of Europe, Basel has through its university (founded 1460 by Pius II) attracted leading artists, scholars, and teachers. It was the residence of Froben, Erasmus, Holbein the Younger, Calvin, Nietzsche, and the Bernoulli family.
5. In 1897, Basel was chosen by Theodor Herzl as the location for the first World Zionist Congress, and altogether the congress has been held there ten times over a time span of 50 years, more than in any other location.
6. The Carnival of Basel (Basler Fasnacht) is a major cultural event in the year. The carnival is one of the biggest in Switzerland and attracts large crowds, despite the fact that many of its central traditions are played out in the early morning starting at 4am (Morgestraich) and followed by a continuous run of festivities for 72 hours.
7. The city is known for its many internationally renowned museums, like the Kunstmuseum, the first collection of art accessible to the public in Europe (1661) and the largest museum of art in the whole of Switzerland.

Experience Basel [Switzerland]
It is not easy to describe Basel in a few words. Descriptions for example such as “cultural city of Switzerland” or “university town” are merely an attempt to give some sort of impression of the wealth of culture, history, relaxation and enjoyment to be found in the city. basel.com
