If you go to the local museum, you can see more of our sick history in Sakhalin. Japan, which occupied the southern Sakhalin with a victory in the Russo - Japanese War, forced our nation into this land. Most of the Koreans who were forced to work were miners. In the nineteenth century, in 1855, the first international conference of Russia and Japan was held in Japan. In 1905, Japan attacked the south of Sakhalin and took control of the territory to the 50th degree until the World War II in 1945. During this period, I moved to Sakhalin and made a lot of contributions to the economy of Sakhalin. A lot of people were sacrificed in the painful and painful history of war. The flame of eternity honoring the sacrificed soul illuminates the streets.

Sabantuy. Farmer's Holiday. Real Russia ep.104
Sabantuy is a farmer’s holiday of the end of the spring sowing.
The word “sabantuy” comes out from Bashkir and Tatar language where “saban” literally means “plow” and “tuy” means “holiday, celebration”. So it’s the celebration of plow.
Sabantuy is a national holiday around Bashkir and Tatar people which is usually celebrated in the first days of June all over the rural areas.
The main distinctive elements of Sabantuy include the traditional sporting competitions such as Kurash (Tatar wrestling), horse racing, race-in-sack, pillar-climbing, egg-in-spoon-in-mouth-racing, sacks-battle on the crossbar, pot smashing, finding a coin in aqatıq (a beverage made from sour milk), and other contests. Such activities take place on the maydan, which would usually be located at the edge of a forest.
A tradition, called soran,] was held to collect a fare for guests of the festival and prizes for the winners of the contests. Rook's porridge, a ritual porridge, was cooked before the Sabantuy to treat children in the village. Another tradition was praying at the cemetery.
In the recent years Sabantuy is also often combined with the folk and pop music festivals, as well as accordion music festivals, named Play, accordion!
At the 12th of June, 2015, we drove 250km north-east from the city of Ufa and came to the Mesyagutovo village, which is located in Duvanskiy District of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia to one of the places where village people celebrated Sabantuy.
The horse race, kurash fighting, folk singing under accordion and truly Tatar songs from the residents of Ulkundyi village, a tatar village in Duvanskiy district of Bashkortostan, were waiting for us.

Geelvinck Musea: presentation monument ship bridge Wijhe to Veessen: Bashkir Horseman, Bashkortostan
Initiated by the Geelvinck Museum, on 11th January 2018, a life-size bronze sculpture of a Bashkir horseman by the Russian sculptor Alexander Taratynov was presented to the public in Veessen (Municipality of Heerde) on the shore of the River IJssel. The monument commemorates the 1st Bashkir Regiment, which in November 1813 placed a ship-bridge across the River IJssel near Veessen during the campaign in The Netherlands of the Sixth Coalition against Napoleon.
General Alexander von Benckendorff
The leader of the campaign was general Alexander Christophorovitsh count von Benckendorff (1763-1844), who gave orders to place the ship-bridge. After his unsuccessful attack on the city of Deventer, which was still occupied by the French, he had the city surrounded and located the bivouac of the 1e Bashkir Regiment in the neighbouring village of Wijhe (in between the cities of Deventer and Zwolle) on the shore of the River IJssel. The ship-bridge made it much easier to cross the river and in the following weeks the bivouac grew into an important transit centre for the allied troops moving in the direction of the Western part of the country, as well as for the return of deserted Dutch conscripts of the Napoleonic army. The ship-bridge lasted for about 2,5 months till high waters made it impossible to maintain.
The exotic Bashkir, which originate from the Southern Ural, made a strong impression on the local population. Armed with a long lance, a lash, sword and bow, these horsemen on their though small horses formed an intimidating and flexible weapon of the Russian army for which Napoleon did not have a strategic reply ready. Because the Bashkir were keen bowman, they where nicknamed by the French “the cupids from the North”, which became their sobriquet. Although only a mere 300 Bashkir horseman where involved in the campaign of Benckendorff in the Netherlands, their impact far outreaches their relatively small number.
Ignoring the orders of his superior to wait for reinforcement at the shore of the River IJssel, on the request of the provisional commander of the capital city’s militia, Benckendorff with a relative minor amount of troops embarked on a daredevil campaign to liberate the Western part of the Netherlands, heading first for Amsterdam. By avoiding direct confrontation with French strongholds, his Bashkir and Cossack cavalry were able to reach the capital city of Amsterdam behind the French lines, while he reached the city port by fishermen’s ships through the darkness of the night. This caused euphoria of anti-French sentiments under the population of the capital. It made the ambiguous provisional city government to change sides from the French to the provisional national government of the Free Netherlands in The Hague without bloodshed. As the Amsterdam bourgeois elite was more progressive than the provisional national government in The Hague, this significantly influenced the basic concept on which the new head of state of the Netherlands was proclaimed. Instead of becoming ‘Stadtholder William 6th‘ (the conservative stand), or an absolute monarch, which the Orange dynasty strived for, the Prince of Orange was offered to become the sovereign William 1st under a Constitution, which protects the democratic rights of citizens. It became the basis of the constitutional monarchy of the Netherlands today.
Wijhe and the Bashkir Bivouac
On the other shore of the River IJssel, in the village of Wijhe, another work of art by Alexander Taratynov will mark the location of the Bashkir bivouac. It will include a bronze sculpture representing Benckendorff. This sculpture, as well as the monument of the Bashkir Horseman, was presented in Veessen on the first day of the Bashkortostan – Netherlands Festival 2017-2018 (organised by the Foundation Art connects People) on 11th January 2018. The monument was surrounded by the high waters of the River IJssel. The event included a Roundtable expert meeting in Wijhe on the topic of the shared history of Bashkortostan and the River IJssel Region. It was aimed at mapping topics to be worked-out in mutual cooperation between the Ministry of Culture of Bashkortostan and related parties on the one hand and, on the other hand, the initiating Geelvinck Museum and Museum Wijhe, as well as other parties local and abroad. Intended is a follow-up to be materialised in a small-scale conference and further research and scientific exchanges on these and related topics. The ship-bridge symbolically stands for the shared history between the Autonomous Republic of Bashkortostan (Russian Federation) and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Polar Bears Club. Real Russia ep.95 (4K)
At the 28th of February, 2015 we came to film the All Russia 24-hours Torch of Polar Bears of Russia dedicated to the 70-Years Anniversary of the Victory in a World War II.
More than 200 walruses (that's how we call polar bears) from 20 regions of Russia came to the city of Ufa, the capital of Bashkortostan Republic of Russia that to participate in this Torch. But besides Ufa, the Torch like this also went in many other cities of Russia.
We came just to film and show about it, but suddenly became a participants ourselves.
It was pretty amazing experience to make a 50-meters swim through the freezing cold water in a hole of the Soldier's Lake in the Park of Ivan Yakutov.
Then to warm up in a mobile bath house right inside of the truck and finally to drink a tea deep inside of Polar Bears Club of Ufa, Russia.
