Climate Change and the Human Prospect TRAILER - A Documentary (2018)
2017 Climate Change and the Human Prospect Retreat
Thinkers Lodge, Pugwash, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Centre for Local Prosperity, inspired by the original 1957 Pugwash conference on nuclear disarmament, gathered a group of international and regional Thinkers to engage in intense reflection and dialogue on what is now the most serious threat facing humankind – global warming and its impacts on small rural communities.
We wanted to be outrageous – to do the impossible. We emerged with bold, climate change initiatives that preserve and restore the health of local communities and ecosystems.
The 40-minute film Climate Change and the Human Prospect documents the discussion at the 60th Anniversary Thinkers Lodge Retreat, Pugwash, NS and is available August 2018 produced by The Visual Blueprint Productions (thevisualblueprint.com) and Centre for Local Prosperity (centreforlocalprosperity.ca), directed by Andrea Vandenboer. This retreat provided our first in-depth discussions about a potential Drawdown Hub for NS (drawdown.org). The film is oriented towards rural communities and sets a context for both mitigation and adaptation. This film will be made available for group screenings where a discussion can occur about what a community can do about climate change and a short discussion guide will also be made available.

The Centre for Local Prosperity initiates conversations intended to encourage communities to begin a shift toward an economy that is properly scaled for the place. It is our hope that such a dialogue will result in real action for change by creating a new climate for change.
The Centre for Local Prosperity takes pride in working alongside community groups, businesses and governments to identify opportunities and assess the risks in making the shift to a new economy. We are prepared to hold workshops, conferences, and targeted discussions on topics as far-ranging as local currency, climate-change, restorative business modelling, a living wage, affordable and efficient housing, local energy production, food & community hubs, entrepreneurial start-ups, transportation, arts & culture and social and economic justice.
Over time, the Centre envisions the crafting of a new narrative: a language that invites a balance between a culture of economic development and the preservation and restoration of natural systems.
History demonstrates that vision without enlightened action is destined to lie fallow. Our hope is to discover an older grace and intelligence that binds us together in ways we could never have imagined. Once discovered it becomes the new social, economic and political narrative that restores the commons, elevates the notion of fairness, and sets a higher standard by which all progress is to be measured.

S-CAR Parents of the Field: John Burton
John Burton pioneered peace and conflict studies through three major conceptual innovations: his challenge to 'realist' power political thought, the creation of 'problem-solving workshops,' and developing a theory of 'human needs' as a major source of social and intractable conflicts.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
