Con la XXX puntata della X serie di Borghi d'Italia vi portiamo in uno dei luoghi storici più importanti e suggestive dell'intera penisola e parliamo del Comune di Aquileia (Udine), antica città romana e centro propulsivo della cristianità in Europa. Dal 1998 sito Unesco per la Basilica Patriarcale e per la sua area archeologica. Nel corso del programma incontriamo il sindaco, l'arciprete parroco, il presidente dell'Ass. Europea Romea Strata e gli altri protagonisti della vita cittadina. Inoltre visitiamo la Basilica Patriarcale, conosciuta nel mondo per il suo meraviglioso pavimento musivo, continuiamo con il battistero, il sepolcreto, il foro, il porto fluviale romano e gli altri monumenti che hanno reso grande Aquileia. Protagonisti anche i piatti tradizionali ed i prodotti tipici del territorio. È una puntata all'insegna della storia, arte, religiosità e bellezza.

The Mosaics of Aquileia
The huge mosaic floor in the basilica of Aquileia in northern Italy is an archaeological marvel. It dates to the 4th century, and is an exuberant celebration of Christianity's new found legality, and the wealth of the Roman Empire. Much of the city still lies buried beneath the surrounding fields, to be excavated at some point in the future. But that's OK - the mosaics are quite wonderful all by themselves!

Archaeological Area and the Patriarchal Basilica of Aquileia, Italy - World Heritage Journeys
Aquileia's layers are dense. A cultural city at the crossroads of religions, this was one of the biggest, most important and liveliest hubs of the Roman Empire. The site is an artistic and historical treasure trove. Founded in 181 BC and destroyed in 452 AD by Attila the Hun, the site’s basilica and floor mosaics date to the beginning of the 4th century. Excavations have brought to light the remains of the Roman forum and a basilica, a burial ground, house foundations and more.
Inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1998. Aquileia is considered the greatest archaeological reserve of its kind.

Конечно, самое сильное впечатление - это античные мозаики пола базилики. Мозаичный пол, относятся к четвёртому веку.
Их много, на них изображены лица людей, птицы, рыбы, животные, библейские сцены.
Мозаики хорошо подготовлены для осмотра туристами (сделаны специальные мостки).
На них можно смотреть и смотреть, переходя от одной к другой, разглядывая красоту лиц давным-давно ушедших людей,
грациозность животных, естественность птиц и каких-то морских чудищ.
Но это не всё - очень интересны росписи стен.
