Places to see in ( Troyes - France ) Basilique Saint Urbain
The Basilique Saint-Urbain de Troyes, formerly the Église Saint-Urbain, is a massive medieval church in the city of Troyes, France. It was a collegial church, endowed in 1262 by Pope Urban IV. It is a classic example of late 13th century Gothic architecture. The builders encountered resistance from the nuns of the nearby abbey, who caused considerable damage during construction. Much of the building took place in the 13th century, and some of the stained glass dates to that period, but completion of the church was delayed for many years due to war or lack of funding. Statuary includes excellent examples of the 16th century Troyes school. The vaulted roof and the west facade were only completed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It has been listed since 1840 as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture.
Jacques Pantaléon (c. 1195–1264) was the son of a shoemaker in Troyes. He studied at the Cathedral school for a short period, then moved to Paris to study theology at the Sorbonne. He rose through the church hierarchy and was appointed Patriarch of Jerusalem in 1255. He was elected pope in 1261 and chose the name of Pope Urban IV. In May 1262 he announced that he would build a cathedral in Troyes dedicated to Saint Urban, his patron saint. For the church site, Urban IV purchased several houses around the building that had housed his father's workshop. The property had belonged to the Abbey of Notre Dame aux Nonnains.
Saint-Urbain is a classic example of French Gothic architecture of this period. The exterior has perforated gables with sharp points, narrow buttresses with many pinnacles, and openwork flying buttresses. The effect is visually complex, perhaps discordant. The main structural elements are built from a resistant limestone from Tonnerre, while softer local chalk is used for infilling masonry of the walls. The interior floor plan is compact. There is a short nave with three bays, a transept that does not project from the side walls and a stubby chevet that ends in three polygonal apses. There is no ambulatory. The building makes spectacular use of tracery and attenuated forms.
The interior walls have two different patterns. The apse has two levels of glass windows, which create a luminous area around the altar, above a plain masonry base. There is a walkway on the lower level behind an open tracery screen whose mullions rise to the clerestory above. The sanctuary, transept and nave have a strongly built arcade at the lower level supported by composite piers, above which rises a clerestory of similar height. The two patterns are unified by the framework of rectilinear wall sections and the grid of vertical and horizontal elements.

Basilique Saint-Urbain
I dedicate this realization performed live on my arranger keyboard to all those who like me have the FAITH. Everyone has the right to believe or not, in one religion, in one idea, but in accepting the other, accepting his neighbor as he is, whatever his ideas and his differences. Having grown up in Christianity I learned to pray and today I pray for my family on this day !
The title of this achievement is Oh, Glory to God, in the Heavens High, a live performance.

The holidays of All Saints are there but do not forget the real meaning of this specific time.
In this very special time of All Saints, we will celebrate all the Saints on November 1st and we must remember that every being is called to holiness.
However, All Saints' Day can not be separated from the next day, the day of remembrance and prayer to the dead on November 2nd.
Thus, while All Saints Day is a day of joy, the day of the dead is and always will be a time of remembrance and memory for those who have gone to join the eternal light before us and so we always keep them in the depths of our hearts .
I pray for each and every one of you, family, friends, educational team from my training institution, students and alumni, parents, but also you who are discovering this video today.
I invite you to a time of silence, an interior time, a time of recollection, the time of a moment so that together in peace and love, we can pray in community.
Any one, our differences or our similarities; this time of thought for the other is precious time. In communion of prayer A. Guthleben

Troyes is a town in the Grand Est region of northeastern France. Its medieval old town features narrow, cobbled streets lined with colorful, half-timbered houses, mostly dating from the 16th century. The town is home to several Gothic churches with striking stained-glass windows. These include the Troyes Cathedral, the Église Sainte-Madeleine and the Basilique Saint-Urbain.
Troyes has a lively centre that’s graced with one of France’s finest ensembles of half-timbered houses and Gothic churches. Often overlooked, it’s one of the best places in France to get a sense of what Europe looked like back when Molière was penning his finest plays and the Three Musketeers were swashbuckling. Several unique and very worthwhile museums are another lure. Troyes does not have any Champagne cellars. However, you can shop in its scores of outlet stores stuffed with brand-name clothing and accessories, a legacy of the city’s long-time role as France’s knitwear capital.
The downtown area is easily walkable however to go to the outlet malls requires a car. From one side of the downtown to the other is probably a 30 min walk. Troyes is located between to Paris, Reimes, Dijon, and Nancy making it an ideal base to explore the Champagne region. There are some lakes a short drive to the east of the city. The local football (soccer) team, ESTAC, is currently (2013 to 2014 season) in the second French division. Get tickets in the supporters section if possible as it is the cheapest and most exciting. It is very safe. Troyes has some of the best examples of preserved medieval houses in all of Europe, attracting many tourists. There are many old Churches throughout the city and wandering down the stone cobbled streets can make you feel like you are back in time. Besides this Troyes has some nice parks and squares. The Seine river runs through the city, dividing the downtown area roughly in two, and in nice weather you can sit beside it and sip some coffee.
Troyes offers a multimedia library, ice skating, a movie theatre, lazer tag, bowling, pools, and 4 museums. Musée d'Art moderne, Musée Saint-Loup, Musée de Vauluisant, and Musée de l'Apothicairerie. Saint-Loup is the best but they are all worth a look depending on your taste.
Lac d'Auzon-Temple and the Lac d'Orient are two man made lakes to the east of Troyes which are used to control the water levels of other rivers, they are very nice in good weather. As noted above Paris (west), Nancy (east), Dijon (south), or Reimes (north) can be reached for a day trip by car or train. The outlet malls mentioned above also have some good deals.
Troyes has been in existence since the Roman era, as Augustobona Tricassium, which stood at the hub of numerous highways, primarily the Via Agrippa which led north to Reims and south to Langres and eventually to Milan; other Roman routes from Troyes led to Poitiers, Autun and Orléans.
Many half-timbered houses (mainly of the 16th century) survive in the old town:
Hôtels Particuliers (palaces) of the old town
The Hôtel de Ville, Place Alexandre Israël, is an urbane example of the style Louis XIII. On the central corps de logis which contains the main reception rooms, its cornice is rhythmically broken forward over paired Corinthian columns which are supported below by strong clustered pilasters. Above the entrance door the statue of Louis XIV was pulled out of its niche and smashed in 1793, during the Reign of Terror at the height of the French Revolution; it was replaced in the nineteenth century with the present Helmeted Minerva and the device in its original form, now rare to see Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité, ou la Mort

Troyes is a commune and the capital of the department of Aube in north-central France. It is located on the Seine river about 150 km (93 mi) southeast of Paris. This area is known as the Champagne region of Northern France. Many half-timbered houses (mainly of the 16th century) survive in the old town. Troyes has been in existence since the Roman era, as Augustobona Tricassium, which stood at the hub of numerous highways, primarily the Via Agrippa.
Troyes was signed by which Henry V of England was betrothed to Catherine, daughter of Charles VI, and by terms of which he was to succeed Charles, to the detriment of the Dauphin. The high-water mark of Plantagenet hegemony in France was reversed when the Dauphin, afterwards Charles VII, and Joan of Arc recovered the town of Troyes in 1429. In medieval times Troyes was an important international trade centre, centring on the Troyes Fair. The name troy weight for gold derives from the standard of measurement evolving here.
