Places to see in ( Annecy - France ) Basilique de la Visitation
The Basilica of the Visitation , erected on the crêt Moor, which is the first foothills of the Massif Semnoz appears as dominant Annecy and mark every place of kilometers around. It is the symbol of the prestigious religious past of the city. The basilica was built from 1909 to 1930 on the plans of the Grenoble architect Alfred-Henri Recoura . A first project, already completed, was directed by Henry Ade at the end of the xix th century, but was nevertheless rejected in favor of the current basilica, which however Henri Adé drew the crypt.
The place of worship was consecrated in 1949 by Cardinal Tedeschini . It is adjacent to the Mother House Monastery of the Order of the Visitation , founded in 1610 by François de Sales and Jeanne de Chantal. The bodies of the two saints lie at the top of the two lateral naves, in two gilded bronze sarcophagi. They were deposited there with great pomp, the August 2 , 1911Escorted by an immense crowd from Annecy who dedicate a particular cult to Francis, whose work in 1602 to 1622 as bishop of Geneva in exile in Annecy , illuminated the city of unprecedented splendor.
The basilica was built in the typical style of the late xix th century . The bell tower has a height of 72 meters and is surmounted by a bronze cross of 7 meters . The nave rests on a crypt with lowered arches, designed by Henri Adé . The vault was built semicircular. The windows of the basilica evoke the life of the two founding saints. It has a carillon of 38 bells weighing 8 tons . The drone, a bell named Marie Françoise weighs 4 tons and sounds a false La2. The carillon is classified as historical monuments. Two Christs in cross surmounting two altars are the work of the statuary Philippe Besnard (1949).
Housed in an annex of the monastery, the Salesian Museum perpetuates the history of the Order of the Visitation , of Joan of Chantal , and the life and work of Francis de Sales. A memorial Saint-François de Sales was built in the premises of the former monastery of the Visitation, on the flank of the current church Saint-François in the old town of Annecy .

Places to see in ( Annecy - France ) The Chateau de Montrottier
The castle of Montrottier is a former stronghold of the xiii th century, rebuilt several times and restored in the xix th century, which stands on the town of Lovagny in the department of Haute-Savoie region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes , in a dozen kilometers west of Annecy, near the Gorges du Fier .
As historical monuments ; the donjon, the main building of the Knights and the tower of the Nun are the subject of a classification by decree of the1 st September 1919 ; the grounds surrounding the castle are classified by order of the January 5 , 1935 ; the farm and the buildings composing the castle except the classified parts are the subject of a partial inscription by decree of the November 3 , 1987.
The castle of Montrottier is located in the French department of Haute-Savoie in the municipality of Lovagny , in the Savoyard foreland . It stands 1 kilometer southeast of the village on a hill of 445 meters above sea level that dominates the whole country. From the walkway , the view embraces the hilly countryside and extends beyond the mountains overlooking Lake Annecy to Mont Blanc. Raised on a rocky peak, encircled by the old bed of the Fier ; La Grande-Fosse, he watched the passage of the river Le Fier on the road connecting Chambery to Geneva .
The Montrottier Castle is in the form of a pentagonal enclosure built in xiii th century, the shape of the terrain, protected to the north by the Fier gorges around a dungeon isolated cylindrical in a courtyard, square tower , the Tower of the Sisters, houses large and small and a building for the body of the guards. This ensemble is a fine example of medieval Savoyard architecture; the house and tower dating from the xv th century and réemploient elements of xiii th and xiv th centuries.
It is to Pierre de Menthon that we owe the construction of the Logis des Chevaliers, the Logis des Comtes, and the cylindrical dungeon surmounted by machicolation . The latter is built after 1425, blocking rolled pebbles, bricks and gravel, and its apparatus consists of tufa rubble. At a height of 35.6 meters , it has a thick wall of more than 3 meters at its base which is built in large apparatus and talute in the shape of a truncated cone. With five floors, it is accessible by a wooden footbridge from the first floor of the Logis des Comtes located 4 meters above the ground. A staircase of 87 stepsleads to its summit, from where one has a remarkable view. As for the machicolation, which composes the coronation, they rest on a row of triple crows and the three merlons which dominate the road to the south-east are pierced by circular guns.

Places to see in ( Annecy - France ) Jardins de l'Europe
Places to see in ( Annecy - France ) Jardins de l'Europe
The Gardens of Europe , in Annecy , are a vast park dedicated to the walk. They are located on the shores of Lake Annecy . The garden is listed in the General Inventory of Cultural Heritage. The gardens of Europe and the Hôtel-de-Ville are located on an old marshy island, located outside the walls of the city. It became a possession of the family Asinari, Lombard bankers ( xiv th to the xv th century), a native of Asti . The island then takes the name of meadow Lombard
In 1563 , a channel from Thiou to Vassé is dug, cutting the meadow in two. One of these two new insalubrious islands is home to a few health huts reserved for contagious insects that were isolated during plague epidemics .
The May 17, 1602The pre Lombard is set in place for walking and approval by the Duke Henry I st of Savoy-Nemours. Duke Charles Amadeus of Savoy-Nemours then gives it to the order of the Visitation. The land is enclosed by a wall over four meters high, and is connected to the city by a covered walkway with drawbridge. A chapel is also built. The meadow is also used at that time as a vegetable garden for visitors.
Became well national to the Revolution, the closed is resold in 1795 to a Geneva businessman who uses it for the spreading of printed fabrics. Between 1835 and 1843 , the municipality bought the closed Lombard and undertakes urban works. Both islands are transformed into a peninsula. A school and the new Hotel de Ville are then built there.
The banks of the Jardins d'Europe are decorated with benches. There is also a mooring area consisting of 270 locations. These are established between the Canal du Vasse, the gardens of Europe and the quay of Tournette. The Pont des Amours , located above the Canal du Vasse, connects the gardens of Europe to Pâquier . This is a typical iron bridge from the early xx th century .
A bronze statue dedicated to Claude Louis Berthollet was erected in 1843 on the promenade of Pâquier, it is transported 20 years later to its current location. Four high-reliefs recall the most salient features of the life of this illustrious chemist born in Talloires . Descended to be melted on order as part of the mobilization of non-ferrous metals , the statue escapes its fatal fate and found its place in October 1944 . The monument is a work of Carlo Marochetti.
In 1860 , Savoy becomes French. To attach the favors of the new department of Haute-Savoie , Napoleon III offers a steamboat - The Crown of Savoy - to the city of Annecy . The latter decided in 1863 to place a commemorative plaque in the garden, on the future quay Napoleon III . It is one of the rare monuments in memory of the Emperor in France. In 1999 , the Annecy Town Hall and the League for the Protection of Birds Delegation (LPO) Haute-Savoie inaugurated three information panels. They were established in the gardens of Europe and on the Pâquier . The garden panel of Europe presents some species of passerines frequenting the gardens park of Europe
