Caney Creek WMA - Dispersed Camping
Dispersed Camping at Caney Creek WMA, Ouachita National Forest. Checking out the Crooked Creek and looking around. Lots of water falls. I was camped next to Crooked Creek in the Caney Creek WMA. Below is the updated Coordinates for the water fall in the video. If you keep going down the road about a mile, look to the right and you'll be able to see my camp site. There are several along the road. Google maps does pull up the spot.

The Beaten Path Trail -- Trip Planning & What We Learned
If you are considering a trip on The Beaten Path you may find this video helpful.
During the planning phase of this trip we discovered that certain questions had answers that were difficult to find or the answers just were not available.
Immediately after finishing our hike, Dane and I sat down for an impromptu Question & Answer session . In this video we discuss:
- Logistics of using a hammock
- Terrain & trail difficulty
- Signage & trail markings
- Suggested trail map
- Using alcohol stoves
- Rain gear
- Footwear
- Bugs & bug repellent
- Itinerary & daily mileage
- Bear safety
- Cell phone coverage
We used a National Geographic map for this hike. More specifically, it was #722 Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness East (Cooke City, Red Lodge). This map is readily available from the National Geographic website, REI stores, Amazon and various other retailers.
#722 Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness East (NatGeo site)
Since we live several states apart Dane and I shared information in Google Drive. All the files we used during the planning of the trip are available for viewing or to download at the following link.

This video is intended to be an overview of the trail rather than step-by-step navigation instructions. OverlandTrax recommends using a GPS device (Not your smartphone) along with GPS tracks from professional trail guide services. We also suggest taking detailed paper maps just in case your digital navigation fails. As with any adventure, conditions can change dramatically. Please check conditions before attempting a trail and be ready to turn back if conditions are not favorable.

Catching Fish at Chrome Lake in the Beartooth Mountain Range
Zach, from Beartooth Metal Roofing (beartoothmetalroofing.com) hooks into a nice cutthroat trout in Chrome Lake in the Beartooth Mountains. This lake is stocked with cutthroats every other year, so there are a ton of nice sized trout that are anxious to be pulled out, fileted, and cooked up for dinner.
The entire area has a ton of jeep trails through it. Check my other videos for more footage of traversing the trails.

Howdy YouTubers!
TURN UP THE VOLUME ON THIS ONE! it's a little hard to hear the subtle notes in some of the passages.
this an edited version of a video previously uploaded under the same title. Sony had the original version blocked world wide. I don't begrudge YouTube for having to implement the block. they're living up to their end of the deal they had to make with Sony.
the version of Dvorak's New World used in this edition of the video isn't quite as pretty as the last, but alas this version is at least not encumbered by Sony.
this melody evokes the deep seated visions and memories of my native Idaho and its breathtaking beauty.
