Walking over the historic Kilcunda Bridge, Bass Coast Rail Trail, Victoria, Australia
Walking over the historic Kilcunda Bridge on a windy raining day. Looking at the waves, beach and ocean. The Bass Coast Rail Trail is a lot of fun.

Bass Coast Rail Trail 16km from Wonthaggi to Anderson
Kilcunda to Wonthaggi rail trail ride
This is the ride is along the rail trail that runs through Kilcunda to Wonthaggi in Victoria's beautiful Gippsland coast. The first section is a short loop around the George Bass coastal walk. I then get onto the main rail trail, which stretches past the giant wind turbines and desalination plant to the industrial town of Wonthaggi. I rate the ride as easy, its flat most of the way with only a few gentle inclines and very straight. If you do this ride keep you eyes open for the Kangaroos which often inhabit the scrubby paddocks about 1km out of Kilcunda on the ocean side of the trail.

Part 1 of a bike ride along the Bass Coast Rail Trail from Anderson to Kilcunda on Oct 3 2010
Terrific views of the coast and the new electricty generating windmills.
Keep an eye out for snakes however as I saw a small snake (Black?) on the trail on the way back.

Why won't Victorian Government look seriously at the alternatives?
Recycled wastewater and desalinated water are impossible to tell apart if both have been treated using the same reverse osmosis method.

What We Like About Wonthaggi
Only an easy hours drive from Melbourne's South Eastern suburbs, Wonthaggi has many recreational and retail options available.
Wonthaggi has many retail and culinary options with vibrant strip shops and cafes as well as most of the major outlets servicing the South Gippsland region.
The Beaches along the Bass Coast are the main draw to the area along with the rocky headlands and waves crashing as the whales alight out of the water and crash back down with a spectacular splash.
You can walk or cycle the Bass Coast Rail Trail between the State Coal Mine in Wonthaggi to Anderson and then on to Cowes via the roadside trails or on to Woolamai down the rail trail.
