Road Trip #158 - US-80 W - Monroe, Louisiana
In this video, we drive west on US Highway 80 across the city of Monroe, Louisiana...the parish seat of Ouachita Parish. Here, US-80 is named Desiard Street, for Bayou Desiard, which runs just to the north of the highway. After crossing US Highway 165, US-165 Business route runs concurrent with US-80 for several miles. US-80 becomes Louisville Avenue. At 5th and 6th Streets, US-165 Business turns away to the north, and Louisiana Highway 15, comes in from the north, and overlaps US-80. At the Ouachita River, we leave Monroe, and enter West Monroe, and end this video.

Complete Bastrop Flood Videos
This is the complete, uninterrupted video of the Bastrop flood coverage I shot on 5/26/15. Including the damage path from the water that was released when the dam holding back the small lake in Bastrop State Park gave way and sent approximately 18 million gallons of water across highway 71 (which was closed for several hours) and hurtling toward the housing area known as Tahitian Village. That is the same area that was devastated by wildfires in 2011. Those fires destroyed over 1600 homes. Fortunately, as you will see toward the end of this video, that water stayed in the valley and appears to have not damaged any houses.
Any and all parts of this video may be used by any news station or other media outlets. My only requirement is that my business logo/watermark must be left on the video. I would also ask that someone from the news organization contact me at marc@whirlybirdimages.com to let me know that they intend to use the video.

Lost Pines, Bastrop State Park , Bastrop Complex Fire (filmed day of)
Our bike ride on Sunday, September 4, 2011. Just hours before the forest fire began and burned much (or all?) of the park. We look forward to the regeneration of vegetation that fires bring, despite the devastation, and visit the park again as soon as we can. We were a lucky few who visited the park on Sunday.

One USGS Flood Gaude in Bastrop County has withstood floodwaters
One of the key ways our forecasters know how fast our rivers are rising are the flood gauges.
KXAN Investigator Robert Maxwell is in Bastrop where he found out one gauge so far, has stood the test of time and high water.

Colorado River Winery -- Bastrop, Texas
The historic downtown Bastrop area provides an ideal location for one of the newest wineries to open in Texas. December 21st, 2013 was the opening day for owners Brad and Sylvia Cook. Apparently, it's been a dream of Brad's to have a winery since his young wine making days. Now he gets to retire and do what he loves. The long slender tasting room has Tuscany style décor with a relaxed, cozy and welcoming atmosphere making you feel at home. The winery offers a selection of wine related gift and gourmet food items, along with a selection of jewelry. Wine making is done on the premises. You may get a scent of CO2 in the air as part of the experience. That's just to get your brain ready for some good wine tasting! They get their juices primarily from California and Washington, though their Tempranillo is Texas sourced. There are currently eight wines available for tasting. The unoaked Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio are quite refreshing as the temperatures outside begin to heat up. The sweet white is a Riesling blend that is bright, clean and quite good. The Sweet Blush with hints of raspberry, tastes great chilled. For the reds, the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon wines are soft enough on the palate for most to enjoy. Their best dry red is the Tempranillo. The top seller by far though has been something that was just supposed to be a seasonal variety for the holidays, their Seasonal Bliss. The Seasonal Bliss has just a hint of cranberry and sweetness married in this good medium bodied wine to create a great bliss to cap off your tasting session. This is a great spot to bring your friends to swirl and chill. Have fun, stay a while and enjoy the wines, staff and the comfortable tasting room. We think you'll enjoy the visit! Cheers!

Federal Bureau Of Prisons
i bet the prison system is more upset about the smuggled in cellphone more than what is actually taking place here. this is so sad. these inmates have mothers, sisters, brothers, children... just like the rest of the people in this world. its so messed up that some of the inmates may not make it out of these places to see they’re families again. and all because the guards would rather cover things up in there than to diffuse the situation

Road Trip #162 - US-80 W - Grambling to Gibsland, Louisiana
We continue west on US Highway 80, beginning at the western city limits of Grambling, Louisiana. We pass through the village of Simsboro, and then enter Bienville Parish. In the town of Arcadia, US-80 briefly merges with LA-9 along 1st Street, then jogs a block north at Beech Street onto 2nd Street. The LA-9 concurrency ends, and we leave Arcadia. The video concludes as we enter the town of Gibsland.
