Bataan World War ll Museum
The Bataan World War II Museum is uniquely but strategically located at the back of Balanga Elementary School. The museum was built as a tribute to our fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in 1942. It showcases tragic tidbits about the mentioned war, especially the horrendous Bataan Death March where thousands of Filipino and American soldiers perished.
This is where Major General Edward P. King Jr. surrendered the American and Filipino forces to the Japanese to prevent further destruction and loss of lives. Visitors will be able to see structures and dioramas about the war. A short video offers snippets about the events that unfolded. Moreover, a diorama features doll figures portraying the torture and pain soldiers had to endure. There is also an old toilet adjacent the museum which has been turned into a torture chamber. This room was preserved and remained untouched. The surrender site monument is found within the vicinity of the museum. It features the life-sized statue of Major General Edward King when he signed the document of surrender to Japan on April 9, 1942. A visit to this place will refresh your memory about the fateful events during the Second World War.

Bataan Government Center and Business Hub at the Capitol, City of Balanga, Bataan, Philippines
The focal point of the new Bataan Government Center and Business Hub is the Provincial capitol's “Bunker” building which is designed to pay tribute to the World War II heroes of Bataan who sacrificed their lives for their beloved country. The 7 storey, 22,000 square meter (236,720 sq. ft.) landmark structure, symbolic of the remnants of the war, replicates the ruins of a defensive military fortification that has been refurbished and transformed to depict the re-birth and rise of a once fallen city.
The building’s plan as seen from above forms the geometry of the nautilus which is the basic building block of the universe. The shape embodies the natural pattern of growth or movement. The volute like rotating propeller shaped floor plan which symbolizes progress, connects the remains of two damaged bunkers connected by a contrasting curving reflective glass facade making it inviting and open. The leaning and darting termination of the curves which seemingly points upwards signifies a posture of optimism moving on with life after the war.
The 32 meter (105 ft.) high central atrium with a continuous helix museum gallery provides transparency from within and the high fenestration allows for optimum view to the outdoors complimenting the proposed oval shaped reflective pool and dancing fountain fronting the existing capitol building.

Bataan is a province situated in the Central Luzon region of the Philippines. Its capital is the City of Balanga. Occupying the entire Bataan Peninsula on Luzon, Bataan is bordered by the provinces of Zambales and Pampanga to the north. The peninsula faces the South China Sea to the west and Subic Bay to the north-west, and encloses Manila Bay to the east.
The Battle of Bataan is famous in history as one of the last stands of American and Filipino soldiers before they were overwhelmed by the Japanese forces in World War II. The Bataan Death March was named after the province, where the infamous march started.
There’s the City Hall, an elegant hotel and a mall, all facing the 18th century St. Joseph Cathedral.

If you are a history lover and a weekend getaway to Vigan City seemed to be too far for you, Balanga City of Bataan maybe a great alternative. A province rich in history, World War 2 stories in particular, is just a two and 1/2-hour drive from Manila.
Balanga City has plenty of historical sights that every Filipino and tourist should visit. During our stay, we visited the World War 2 Museum. We found it really interesting learning more about the sacrifices of those who fought during the war especially the courageous Filipino soldiers. We also went to explore the Wetland and Nature Park. If you like to see migratory birds, there are thousands of them there (though we didn't catch a flock of birds because they are only visible on a certain time of the day). We had to skip some of the other tourist spots in Bataan due to limited time.
Balanga is more than just a historical site; it’s also a city with picturesque attractions and a gastronomic heaven not to mention the friendly locals. These are just some of the reasons why you should pay it a visit soon. ????

First travel vlog ko to! So pumunta kami ng bataan with friends na walang itinerary so ginagawa namin nag hanaphanap pa kami ng magagawa dun na mismo. Pero buti nalang dumaan kami ng tourism center para magtanong tanong and pinuntahan namin tong Mt. Samat at World War II museum and actually marami pang pwede puntahan kaso pagod na kami at ito lang nakayanan namin puntahan kasi galing pang mga work. Day 1 palang din naman to!
