Burwash, my English Village
A return to my home village, Burwash in East Sussex, England. Although it may have been home to Rudyard Kipling and his National Trust house is worth a visit, why not stop afterwards in Burwash village itself, with its Norman church, smugglers gravestones with scull & crossbones & 17th Century pubs. Stop off at Kipling's actual butcher (Jarvis Family since 1870) where you can buy some famous Burwash Beauty sausages. Look at the listed houses which reside high over this conservational area. And lastly, walk at least one of their splendid public footpaths, crossing farms and cottage gardens before finishing your day in the Burwash Village Tea Rooms. The final shot is of the me looking over 'Pooks Hill' - a famous Kipling book - a place dear to my heart.
Park Watermill, Bateman's {Vlogmas Day 17}
Bateman's in East Sussex. The Park Watermill is Day 17 of Vlogmas.
Park Watermill, which stands by the River Dudwell, is located within the grounds of Batemans at Burwash, the home of Rudyard Kipling from 1902 to 1936. The mill was part of Batemans before Kipling bought it, having been purchased by a previous owner of Batemans.A grant was made for the erection of 'two mills' at Burwash between 1246 and 1248. In those times the word 'mill' referred not to a building, but to a pair of stones, so the 'two mills' probably referred to one building with two pairs of stones. In 1619, the Pelham family purchased Park House and Park House Watermill.
The present mill dates from about 1750 when it was operated by John Skinner. It was last worked by the brothers Richardson in 1902. Rudyard Kipling who purchased Batemans and Park Mill in the same year, removed the waterwheel and installed a turbine in 1903. The turbine drove a generator and provided Batemans with electricity for 25 years. The mill features in a number of Kipling’s Sussex stories including ‘Puck of Pook’s Hill’ and ‘Below the Mill Dam’.

Bateman's at AppleBlossom Time
I love the National Trust property Bateman's the main old home of Rudyard Kipling and like to visit the place often as the Seasons change. Today the Apple Blossom was at its peak and starting at a Rosemary Russet, I take you past the restaurant, shop then onto the back of Rudyard's old home. I chose a Suite from Handel's Water Music played by The Prague Orchestra as accompaniment to this video. This little video also captures a glimpse of the hard work, by volunteers and gardeners, that goes into keeping Bateman's neat and tidy for the pleasure of the many, many visitors
