Ancient Roman Music (118 Minutes)
For those of you who liked my video of Ancient Greek Music I decided to produce a similar piece for the music of Ancient Rome. Please let me know what you thought of the music.
The music of ancient Rome was a part of Roman culture from earliest times. Music was customary at funerals, and the tibia (Greek aulos), a woodwind instrument, was played at sacrifices to ward off ill influences. Song (carmen) was an integral part of almost every social occasion. The Secular Ode of Horace, for instance, was commissioned by Augustus and performed by a mixed children's choir at the Secular Games in 17 BC. Under the influence of ancient Greek theory, music was thought to reflect the orderliness of the cosmos, and was associated particularly with mathematics and knowledge.
Etruscan music had an early influence on that of the Romans. During the Imperial period, Romans carried their music to the provinces, while traditions of Asia Minor, North Africa and Gaul became a part of Roman culture.
Music accompanied spectacles and events in the arena, and was part of the performing arts form called pantomimus, an early form of story ballet that combined expressive dancing, instrumental music and a sung libretto.
Hail Caesar!!

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Bath is the largest city in the county of Somerset, England, known for its Roman-built baths. In 2011, the population was 88,859. Bath is in the valley of the River Avon, 97 miles (156 km) west of London and 11 miles (18 km) south-east of Bristol. The city became a World Heritage site in 1987.
The city became a spa with the Latin name Aquae Sulis (the waters of Sulis) c. 60 AD when the Romans built baths and a temple in the valley of the River Avon, although hot springs were known even before then.
Bath Abbey was founded in the 7th century and became a religious centre; the building was rebuilt in the 12th and 16th centuries. In the 17th century, claims were made for the curative properties of water from the springs, and Bath became popular as a spa town in the Georgian era. Georgian architecture, crafted from Bath stone, includes the Royal Crescent, Circus, Pump Room and Assembly Rooms where Beau Nash presided over the city's social life from 1705 until his death in 1761. Many of the streets and squares were laid out by John Wood, the Elder, and in the 18th century the city became fashionable and the population grew. Jane Austen lived in Bath in the early 19th century. Further building was undertaken in the 19th century and following the Bath Blitz in World War II.
The city has software, publishing and service-oriented industries. Theatres, museums and other cultural and sporting venues have helped make it a major centre for tourism, with more than one million staying visitors and 3.8 million day visitors to the city each year.
There are several museums including the Museum of Bath Architecture, the Victoria Art Gallery, the Museum of East Asian Art, the Herschel Museum of Astronomy, Fashion Museum, and the Holburne Museum. The city has two universities – the University of Bath and Bath Spa University – with Bath College providing further education. Sporting clubs include Bath Rugby and Bath City F.C..
Bath became part of the county of Avon in 1974, and, following Avon's abolition in 1996, has been the principal centre of Bath and North East Somerset.

Designed by architect John Maniscalco, the property is a 60-acre luxury property atop the hills in the heart of Oakville, Napa County. The one-of-a-kind home features a sleek modern design aesthetic that blends interior spaces with the outdoors through floor to ceiling glass windows and nearly 3,000 square feet of covered porches and terraces.
The main house features an elegant courtyard water feature, four bedrooms, four and a half baths, a great room with fireplace, dining and family rooms, a surround sound home theater, office, an infinity edge pool, and a 2000-bottle wine cave carved directly into the hillside. The master suite houses an indulgent steam shower and soaking tub. Centralized controls make simple work of adjusting lighting, music, temperature, security and automatic louvers and shades throughout the home. Additional Green features include an electric car charging station, solar array, reverse-osmotic wáter filtration, central air conditioning and radiant heating.
The adjacent guest house features one bedroom, one bath, living and dining room, kitchenette, outdoor shower and pool bathroom with sweeping views of Napa Valley. Also located on the estate grounds is a separate guest retreat with one bedroom, one bath, a living room, full kitchen and family room.
Beyond the primary residence, the property’s 60 acres contain a recreational park (accessed via a private road) with tennis and bocce courts, an outdoor kitchen and hearth, and an approximately one acre organic garden and orchard. This pristinely-manicured green space, shaded by 100-year old oak trees, houses groves of fruit and olive trees and an active honeybee colony.
The property’s stunning location in the heart of the Oakville AVA (American Viticultural Area) inspires a number of the estate’s finest features. A climate-controlled wine cave, carved directly into the hillside, provides a tasting venue and storage for up to 2,000 bottles. The property also encompasses three vineyard blocks, planted with clones and rootstock selected by Thomas Rivers Brown, Food & Wine’s 2010 Winemaker of the Year. The vines at the property are capable of producing 100-125 cases per year.
Oakville’s reputation for producing some of the finest wines in the world is ever-present: neighboring winegrowers include Robert Mondavi, Opus One, Screaming Eagle, Bond and Harlan.

A Traditional Mummer's Play by Wickham Morris
Sorry this is not very professionally filmed, I missed the beginning and had a sneezing attack while filming in a crowded pub on my Smartphone (Samsung Note 1). The traditional mummers play usually involves Old Father Christmas, Saint George, The Turkish Knight and The Quack Doctor. As is traditional, the lines are changed each year. A bit of a pantomime really.

Video of 111-113 Hubbard Street | Concord Massachusetts real estate & homes by The Senkler Group
- Presenting a fresher version of its original self, this revitalized, historic home
retains its Victorian charm while embracing a renovated and expanded plan
with all of today’s must-have features.
Hubbard Street is highly significant as one of Concord’s earliest subdivided
neighborhoods. In 1872, Samuel Staples purchased 26.5 acres from
a local farmer Ebenezer Hubbard and subdivided the property into
house lots. 113 Hubbard Street is the house that Samuel Staples (1813-
1895) built for himself in his later years. He is known as one of the people
most responsible for the way the town of Concord developed. He developed
the lower section of Bedford Street, moving many houses there
from Monument Square in the late 1840’s-early1850’s-an extraordinarily
early date for this type of real estate activity.
The landscape was designed by Stephanie Hubbard, a Boston landscape
architect, and features a brick patio off the back of the carriage house, bluestone
walkways and an orchard of pink diamond hydrangeas. Major landscaping
renovations were carried out including the addition of a shed and a
fence to support a 100-year old grapevine, both built by Walpole Woodworkers
A major restoration by the current owners added a family room, master suite, back hall and side-entry mudroom
with a half bath. The kitchen was also expanded and now showcases a
beautiful 2016 renovation with custom-handcrafted cabinetry, Wolf and Sub
-Zero appliances, a pantry and bar area.
The spacious, family room, flanked
with custom built-ins, is great space for entertaining offering a warm fireplace
to gather around. The living and dining rooms are filled with character
and feature legacy aspects of the home such as a decorative, leaded glass
window and an original fireplace.
Upstairs discover a beautifully expanded
master suite with a romantic fireplace, spa-like marble bath, and a private
deck for enjoying evening sunsets and morning coffee. Three additional bedrooms,
two updated full baths and a dedicated laundry room complete the
upper levels. Additional finished space for recreation, exercise and media
can be found on the lower level with walk-out access to the yard.
Serving as a garden building until the 1960’s, 111 Hubbard Street has undergone
a major transformation from a c.1909 building/barn to a beautiful, twostory
jewel box of a home! Designed by Holly Cratsley of Nashawtuc Architects
and interior designer Tricia McDonagh, the carriage house was built by “This
Old House” as part of their 25th Anniversary season in 2003.
The carriage house is a showcase of fine appointments, featuring all the fit and
finishes you would expect in a larger, more luxurious home. Painstaking attention
to detail is evident throughout 1026 square feet highlighted by wainscoted
walls, rich moldings, arched entryways, custom built-in seating, cabinetry, and
bookshelves. Featuring one bedroom and 1.5 baths, the floor plan includes a
custom kitchen with premium appliances, a window-wrapped dining room and
a vaulted living room with a wood stove.
Concord is a classic New England town, rich in history located approximately
20 miles northwest of Boston. The commuter rail from Concord’s picturesque
town center provides 35-minute service to Boston’s North Station.
The Town is celebrated for its strong sense of community and quality of life,
which includes excellent public and private schools, a community pool and
fitness center, and area organizations devoted to the arts, theater and music.
Concord’s many historic sites include Old North Bridge, the site of the first
battle of the American Revolution, and the homes of Emerson, Thoreau, and
the Alcott family.
As a result of generous investments in conservation land and protected open
space, the Town offers miles of trails over Estabrook Woods, Spencer Brook
Valley, Walden Pond and other conservation land throughout the town.

The History of Mr. Polly Audiobook by H. G. Wells | Audiobook with subtitles
A funny and touching account of the imaginative Mr. Polly who, bored and trapped in his conventional life, makes a U-turn –- and changes everything.
H.G. Wells’ early life as the son of a semi-insolvent shopkeeper and as a draper’s apprentice fueled his novels of the lower middle class: The Wheels of Chance (1896), Kipps (1905), and The History of Mr. Polly (1910). These works evoke the desperation of apprentices, clerks, and small traders in their monotonous toil behind shop counters. And, like Mr. Polly, his protagonists make a break from their mundane lives with more or less success.
H. G. Wells (1866-1946) was a prolific writer in history, general and science fiction, and politics. He was a lifelong socialist. (Summary by Adrian Praetzellis)
