Unseren Stadtspaziergang durch die Sofioter Altstadt beginnen wir beim Hauptgebäude der Universität. Bevor wir in Richtung Zentrum gehen, machen wir einen kleinen Abstecher nach links auf den bulevard Vasil Levski zum Battenberg Mausoleum. Zurück zum bulevard Tsar Osvoboditel und Richtung Stadtmitte liegt rechter Hand ein Park, anschließend das Parlament. Dem Parlamentsgebäude gegenüber befindet sich das Denkmal für den Befreierzaren Nikolaus II. Zwischen dem Parlament und der Akademie der Wissenschaften biegen wir nach rechts zur Alexander Nevski Kathedrale ein. Die Kathedrale ist der Sitz des bulgarischen Patriarchen und eines der Wahrzeichen Sofias. Wenige Schritte davon entfernt befindet sich die Sweta Sofia, die Sophienkirche. Die Sophienkirche ist die zweitälteste Kirche der Stadt und zugleich ihre Namensgeberin. Zurück auf dem bulevard Tsar Osvoboditel gehts vorbei am ehemaligen Militärclub zur Russischen Kirche „Sveti Nikolay“. Wenige Schritte weiter stoßen wir auf den ehemaligen Zarenpalast, heute die Nationale Kunstgalerie. Gegenüber befindet sich der Stadtgarten und das National Theater „Iwan Wasow“. Vom Theater quer durch den Stadtgarten kommen wir zum Archäologischen Museum, untergebracht in einem der bedeutesten Kulturdenkmäler Bulgariens: eine der ältesten ehemaligen Moscheen. Gegenüber befindet sich der Präsidentenpalast. Im Hof des Gebäudes steht das älteste Gebäude Sofias, die Rotunde des Hl.Georg. Im Mittelpunkt der Stadt gibt es weitreichende röm. Ausgrabungen. Über den Ausgrabungen thront die Heilige Sofia. In unmittelbarer Nähe der Ausgrabungen steht die Banj-Baschi-Moschee; sie ist eines der wichtigsten Gebäude aus der osmanischen Zeit in Bulgarien. Hinter der Moschee ist ein auffälliges Gebäude, das ehemalige zentrale Mineralbad, heute Museum der Geschichte von Sofia. Über der Straße kann man das geschäftige Treiben in der Zentralmarkthalle verfolgen. An der Rückseite der Markthalle steht die Sofioter Synagoge. Zurück zu den röm. Ausgrabungen mit Blick nach Süden steht die Kathedrale Sweta Nedelja. Ein schöner Abschlusss des Sofioter Stadtspazierganges ist ein Bummel über den bulevard Vitosha , eine Fußgängerzone mit vielen Cafés ….

Неговия Александър марш – „Александър царевич марш” е написан в 1853 г. от австрийският армейски композитор Andreas Leonhardt за всерусийския император Алексапндър II, наречен Цар Освободител, в Русия заради освобождението на крепостните в 1861 и България като освободител на българите от Tурско робство в 1878 г. Маршът е написан и посветен на Царя във времето преди да заеме руския трон когато е още престолонаследник. Той днес е дивизионен марш в Бундесвера на 1-ва танкова дивизия Хановер.

София (болг. София [ˈsɔfija], от греч. σοφία — мастерство, мудрость) — столица и крупнейший город Болгарии. Административный центр городской области София и его единственной общины Столична.
Население — 1,43 млн человек (2015 год). Свыше 95 % всех жителей составляют этнические болгары[3]. Расположена на западе Болгарии, на южной окраине Софийской котловины, у подножия горного массива Витоша. Климат умеренный континентальный.
В древности на месте Софии существовало поселение фракийского племени сердов, в I веке н. э. получившее римское название Сердика. С IX века под именем Средец — в составе Болгарии. Позднее город назывался Триадица, а в конце XIV века получил название София (по церкви святой Софии). В XIV веке захвачен турками; в XVI—XVIII веках являлся вторым после Константинополя торговым центром Балканского полуострова. С 1879 года — столица независимой Болгарии.
В V—VI веках во время Великого переселения народов город переживает нашествия гуннов, готов и других варварских племён. В середине VI века, во время правления императора Юстиниана I Великого (527—565 годы), Сердика возрождается как важный административный центр Византийской империи под именем Триадица. Только в религиозном отношении город был подчинён архиепископству, центром в деревне Prima Justiiniana (возможно где-то рядом с современным городом Охрид на территории современной Республики Македония), где родился сам император Юстиниан.
С 809 года город входит в состав болгарского государства под названием Средец. После восстановления болгарского государства в 1185 году епископ Средеца возводится в сан митрополита. С конца XIV века по 1870-е годы город, как и вся страна, находится под османским владычеством. Ещё в XII—XIII вв. город в общении называли Софией, по имени главного храма — кафедральной св. Софии. Основанное в первой половине IV в., современное здание восходит к концу того же века, достраивалось несколько раз. Однако в официальных документах под этим названием появляется лишь в конце XIV века.
Во время османского владычества город становится важным центром империи. Здесь находилась резиденция бейлербея Румелии, правящего европейской территорией Османской империи и, таким образом, город стал важнейшим, после Константинополя, османским городом в Европе. Однако в это время соборная Св. София было переоборудована под мечеть, а епископским центром стал храм св. Марины.
После освобождения от турецкого ига и возрождения болгарского государства София становится столицей.

The city is at the foot of Vitosha Mountain in the western part of the country. Being in the centre of the Balkan peninsula, it is midway between the Black Sea and the Adriatic Sea, and closest to the Aegean Sea.Sofia has been an area of human habitation since at least 7000 BC. The recorded history of Sofia begins with the attestation of the conquest of Serdica by the Roman Republic in 29 BC from the Celtic tribe Serdi, raided by Huns in 343-347 AD and 447 AD, conquered by Visigoths in 376-382 AD, conquered by Avars and Slavs in 617 AD, and on 9 April 809 Serdica was surrendered to Krum of Bulgaria. In 1018, the Byzantines ended Bulgarian rule, while in 1040 it was shortly restored. The town was conquered by the Pechenegs in 1048 and 1078, by the Magyars and Serbs in 1183, and by the Crusaders in 1095 and 1190. The rule of the Second Bulgarian Empire lasted from 1194 until its conquest by the Ottomans in 1382.. From 1520 to 1836, Sofia was the regional capital of Rumelia Eyalet, the Ottoman Empire's key province in Europe. Bulgarian rule was restored in 1878. During World War II Sofia was bombarded by the UK and US Air Forces and at the end of the war, it was seized by the Soviet Army.
Being Bulgaria's primate city, Sofia is a hometown of many of the major local universities, cultural institutions and commercial companies. Sofia is one of the top 10 best places for start-up businesses in the world, especially in information technologies, according to Bulgarian National Television. Sofia was Europe's most affordable capital to visit in 2013.The population of Sofia declined down from 70,000 in the late 18th century, through 19,000 in 1870, to 11,649 in 1878 and began increasing. Sofia hosts some 1.23 million residents within a territory of 492 km2, a concentration of 17.5% of the country population within the 200th percentile of the country territory. The urban area of Sofia hosts some 1.54 million residents within 5723 km², which comprises Sofia City Province and parts of Sofia Province (Dragoman, Slivnitsa, Kostinbrod, Bozhurishte, Svoge, Elin Pelin, Gorna Malina, Ihtiman, Kostenets) and Pernik Province (Pernik, Radomir), representing 5.16% of the country territory. The metropolitan area of Sofia is based upon one hour of car travel time, stretches internationally and includes Dimitrovgrad in Serbia.
