Walking on the street of Niagara-On-The-Lake town Easter and Good Friday in Canada
#niagaraonthelake #niagara #canada
Niagara-on-the-Lake is a town in southern Ontario. It sits on the shores of Lake Ontario, at the mouth of the Niagara River. It's known for its wineries and the summer Shaw Festival, a series of theatre productions. The flower-filled, tree-lined old town features 19th-century buildings, mainly along Queen Street. Near the river, 19th-century Fort George was built by the British to defend against American attacks.
The settlement, known from about 1781 as Butlersburg, in honour of Colonel John Butler, the commander of Butler's Rangers, was renamed West Niagara to distinguish it from Fort Niagara.[3] It was a British military base and haven for pro-British loyalists fleeing the United States during the volatile aftermath of the American Revolution.
Niagara played a central role in the War of 1812. Niagara was taken in the Battle of Fort George by American forces after a two-day bombardment by cannons from Fort Niagara and the American Fleet, followed by a fierce battle. Later in the war, the town was razed and burnt to the ground by American soldiers as they withdrew to Fort Niagara. Undaunted by this setback, often referred to as the burning of Newark, the citizens rebuilt the town after the war, with the residential quarter around Queen Street and toward King Street, where the new Court House was rebuilt using material out of range of Fort Niagara's cannons.

1974 MarineLand Niagara Falls Ontario Canada
1974 MarineLand Niagara Falls Ontario Canada, by Frank Baker, courtesy of Niagara Falls Museums.
a Super8 mm homemovie film by Frank Baker, that he originally donated to the St Catharines Museum shortly before he passed away, which later re-donated the film to the Niagara Falls Museums for safe keeping, who contacted me in November 2019 to digitize. Afterwards I got the permission of Frank's sons, Roger and Frank Jr, to upload it to this youtube channel. Then finally yesterday, permission from Niagara Falls Museums arrived. So, here it is. Enjoy.
My memory of Marineland was a few years before this film, late 1960s. A cousin came to Toronto, and I took her to Niagara Falls, a light 1st snow on the ground. We wound up walking around the closed-for-season grounds of Marineland. At the back of a large tall curved-wall building I spotted a door, the bottom of which was at my chest level, which I thought seemed odd. I tried the door and surprise, it opened. I peered into a huge water area, saw a seal, and then a large dark black/white shape rising up right underneath me, and an Orca burst forth and almost kissed me, but missed because I went flying back out of the way. Wow, I wish I had homemovie film of THAT experience !

Exploring an Abandoned Hockey Arena and Abandoned Museum for Sand Sculptures
Exploring an Abandoned Hockey Arena and Sand Sculpture Museum
This now abandoned hockey arena was built in 1950 and had a capacity of approximately 3,000. The arena was home to various ice hockey teams in the past, including a team with the Greater Ontario Junior B Hockey League.
Photo Gallery here:
The Memorial Arena hosted four of the five games played in the 1968 Memorial Cup.
The abandoned Arena is hulking, empty shell now, one of the many arenas built across the province in the aftermath of the Second World War that has ultimately a date upcoming with the wrecking ball. The city council never really properly maintained the building, and by the end of its life the local junior B team was plagued by a leaking roof and structural deficiencies, as well as a parking problem that can only be caused by being located within walking distance of one of the world's largest tourist draws.
Once inside the arena you entered a dark lobby with ticket booths and concessions directly in front of you. There was a plaque on the far wall announcing the building's opening on January 25, 1950, and another one indicating that renovations took place in 1986.
There was also a portrait of the Queen.
The other side of the lobby had a large display case featuring trophies and memorabilia from the old Junior B team
From the lobby you went upstairs into the seating bowl. Inside, there was a small score-clock and a huge number of banners hanging from the ceiling. Seats are all blue, all plastic, and I believe they dated from the 1986 renovation.
The arena was decommissioned and declared surplus to the city’s needs after a new $38-million four-pad athletic centre was built in June 2010.
The International Sand Sculptures Exhibition was officially opened inside the building in August 2013 by Russian-based consortium V2 Niagara.
The world’s top sand sculptors were brought to the city to create War of 1812-themed displays depicting people, places and events. Three thousand tons of sand was used to create 25 sculptures.
The real estate agent for the facility said the exhibit wasn’t making enough money. The off-shore owner was convinced he could make a go of it, but it wasn’t successful and he put the building and its contents up for sale in November 2014.
The sand sculptures are still inside the arena and will be sold with the building, if a purchaser wants them.
As of April of 2018 there had been talk that the building would become the home to a new museum dedicated to the Titanic.

Niagara Falls Private Home Investigation CHAPS
Oct 2010 CHAPS was called in to a home in Niagara Falls, this was a referral from the TAPS home office.
Beautiful home in the old city, the base reads went off as normal however that was the extent of normal that eve. Immediately shadows were physically witnessed by team members that would normally not observe this type of activity, floorboards smashing in an attic during a solo, many experiences we tried to debunk as well...could not. The KII meter went crazy during one of the solos, another solo our investigator literally lept out of his seat and was sent running for the stairs out of shock. 8 EVP on this investigation, and a plethora of personal experiences. Pound for pound one of the most interesting investigations CHAPS has come across.
Verdict: definite activity, to what we believe is an intelligent source.

Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, North America
Niagara Falls is the collective name for three waterfalls that straddle the international border between Canada and the United States; more specifically, between the province of Ontario and the state of New York. They form the southern end of the Niagara Gorge. From largest to smallest, the three waterfalls are the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. The Horseshoe Falls lie mostly on the Canadian side and the American Falls entirely on the American side, separated by Goat Island. The smaller Bridal Veil Falls are also located on the American side, separated from the other waterfalls by Luna Island. The international boundary line was originally drawn through Horseshoe Falls in 1819, but the boundary has long been in dispute due to natural erosion and construction. Located on the Niagara River, which drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, the combined falls form the highest flow rate of any waterfall in the world, with a vertical drop of more than 165 feet (50 m). Horseshoe Falls is the most powerful waterfall in North America, as measured by vertical height and also by flow rate. The falls are located 17 miles (27 km) north-northwest of Buffalo, New York and 75 miles (121 km) south-southeast of Toronto, between the twin cities of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Niagara Falls, New York. Niagara Falls were formed when glaciers receded at the end of the Wisconsin glaciation (the last ice age), and water from the newly formed Great Lakes carved a path through the Niagara Escarpment en route to the Atlantic Ocean. While not exceptionally high, the Niagara Falls are very wide. More than six million cubic feet (168,000 m3) of water falls over the crest line every minute in high flow, and almost four million cubic feet (110,000 m3) on average. The Niagara Falls are renowned both for their beauty and as a valuable source of hydroelectric power. Managing the balance between recreational, commercial, and industrial uses has been a challenge for the stewards of the falls since the 19th century. Peak visitor traffic occurs in the summertime, when Niagara Falls are both a daytime and evening attraction. From the Canadian side, floodlights illuminate both sides of the falls for several hours after dark (until midnight). The number of visitors in 2007 was expected to total 20 million and by 2009, the annual rate was expected to top 28 million tourists. The oldest and best known tourist attraction at Niagara Falls is the Maid of the Mist boat cruise, named for an ancient Ongiara Indian mythical character, which has carried passengers into the rapids immediately below the falls since 1846. Cruise boats operate from boat docks on both sides of the falls. On the Canadian side, Queen Victoria Park features manicured gardens, platforms offering spectacular views of both the American and Horseshoe Falls, and underground walkways leading into observation rooms that yield the illusion of being within the falling waters. The observation deck of the nearby Skylon Tower offers the highest overhead view of the falls, and in the opposite direction gives views as far as distant Toronto. Along with the Minolta Tower (formerly the Seagrams Tower and the Konica Minolta Tower, now called the Tower Hotel), it is one of two towers in Canada with a view of the falls. Along the Niagara River, the Niagara River Recreational Trail runs the 35 miles (56 km) from Fort Erie to Fort George, and includes many historical sites from the War of 1812.
The Whirlpool Aero Car, built in 1916 from a design by Spanish engineer Leonardo Torres y Quevedo, is a cable car that takes passengers over the Niagara Whirlpool on the Canadian side. The Journey Behind the Falls accessible by elevators from the street level entrance consists of an observation platform and series of tunnels near the bottom of the Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side. There are two casinos on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara. The former is situated in the Fallsview Tourist Area, alongside many of the area's hotels, whilst the latter is adjacent to Clifton Hill, on Falls Avenue, a major tourist promenade. From the U.S. side, the American Falls can be viewed from walkways along Prospect Point Park, which also features the Prospect Point Park observation tower and a boat dock for the Maid of the Mist. Goat Island offers more views of the falls and is accessible by foot and automobile traffic by bridge above the American Falls. From Goat Island, the Cave of the Winds is accessible by elevator and leads hikers to a point beneath Bridal Veil Falls.
