Battle of Norwalk Comes to Life
Where you are right now is part of a battle field.
The Battle of Norwalk came to life this Saturday at Mill Hill Historic Park.
Norwalk was indeed destroyed and it was the most destroyed town in all of Connecticut, but our research shows that it was actually the largest single battle ever fought on Connecticut soil, said local historian Edward Eckert.
The Norwalk Historical Society commemorated the 235th anniversary of the Battle and Burning of Norwalk on Mill Hill Historical Park with a Revolutionary War Encampment setup. On July 11 of 1779 British Major-General William Tryon with over 2,000 troops, attacked and destroyed the town of Norwalk, leaving homes, churches and other town houses demolished.
There are people buried out in Mill Hill here that were in the battle, people at St. Paul's and all over, but especially here, you can just feel their presence. said local historian Madeline Eckert.
Residents had the chance to tour three historic buildings, learn from local historians, and watch equipment demonstrations and a Cavalry reenactment by Sheldon's Horse and the Second Continental regiment.
It's the first time that we had a revolutionary war actors here at Mill Hill and we are very, very excited, said Norwalk Historical Society Executive director Diane Jellerette.
Two battles that are mentioned in history are the battle of Ridgefield and the Battle of Groton Heights, in both of those we've been able to determine that there were actually more British and American soldiers here then there were at the other two battles combined, said Eckert.

Battle of Great Bridge Reenactment
Chesapeake, Virginia is a great place for history buffs. Since the arrival of colonial settlers in 1620, Chesapeake has played a major role in the birth of the United States of America. In fact, Chesapeake is home to the Battle of Great Bridge. This Revolutionary War battle helped solidify the Continental Army's reclaim on Virginia and drive the British Government from the colony.
Early morning on December 9, 1775, British troops advanced over the Great Bridge toward a waiting militia. Ordered to hold fire by Captain Travis, patriot troops waited as the British troops drew nearer. Seeing the militia's inactivity, British captain Fordyce believed that they had abandoned their redoubt and proclaimed, The day is our own! It was at this point that the patriot troops sprung to action and dolled a devastating blow to British troops, forcing them to turn back.
To honor our heritage, Chesapeake hosts an annual reenactment event each December to retell the story of the battle to new generations. Join Chesapeake each year for this two-day event, and step back in time to revisit two important Revolutionary War Battles - the Battle at Kemps Landing and the Battle of Great Bridge. The event includes war encampments, demonstrations, character portrayals, children's activities and more. Come take part in history with Chesapeake's very own reenactment of this celebrated battle while Red Weasel Media RWM captures this action packed event.

Gunn Memorial Museum Civil War Exhibit Introduction
An introduction to the exhibit: Letters from the Battlefield: Stories of Washington's Civil War Soldiers at the Gunn Memorial Museum in Washington, Connecticut. Film produced by Michael Hassler Bird and narrated by Douglas Schlicher. The exhibit, on display from May 1 to October 30, 2011, commemorates the 150th Anniversary of the American Civil War. This exhibit traces the evolution of Washington from a slavery-supporting community to one that eventually came out on the side of the abolitionist forces. Civil War letters, pictures and artifacts from both local families and the collection of the Museum are creatively used to explore the lives of Washington's soldiers, sharing their stories of bravery and horror.
Features of this exhibit include the research of the Shepaug Valley Middle School's 8th grade students who transcribed Civil War letters from the collection of the Gunn Museum; fascinating Civil War artifacts from noted collector Thomas Zanavich and others; beautiful Civil War murals painted on the walls of the Museum by local artists Keith Templeton and Chris Zaima; and Gunnery student Zachary Bodnar shares his research on Frederick Gunn's abolitionist views and the students he prepared for war. This collaborative research project and exhibit of the Gunn Museum, Shepaug Valley Middle School and The Gunnery is generously being supported by The Backhus Foundation and The Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut. Free admission, open to the public. For more information call 860-868-7756 or gunnlibrary.org.
The Battle of Saragarhi 1897 (ASHT)
Tradition Never Dies - Fought in the barren and hostile terrain of the North West frontier on 12th September 1897, the battle of Saragarhi, in which 21 Sikh soldiers valiantly fought and died defending their post against insurmountable odds, is alarmingly neglected in the pages of modern history.
On the 12th September 2010 the Anglo Sikh Heritage Trail launched Saragarhi Day, a national campaign to mark the anniversary of this eponymous Battle.
As part of campaign we are asking for the public to get involved by suggesting what events and activities you would like to see in your local area to mark Saragarhi Day.
Join the campaigns' Facebook Page, Saragarhi: Tradition Never Dies, to keep uptodate with all the latest campaign news and make your event suggestions.

After the Battle of Cesis it seemed the situation in Latvia and Estonia was about to quieten down. But the German soldiers in the region and the ongoing conflict with Bolshevik Russia meant the 2nd half of 1919 saw even more fighting in the Baltics.

The name “Martello” derived from the name of a tower at Mortella point in the gulf of Fiorenzo

More Information on Millmount Tower Museum @ links below
*******************************************
Millmount is a large fortified complex situated on a great mound on the South bank of the River Boyne located in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland. The fort has played a crucial part in Drogheda's history and has been a dominant feature from Norman settlement, to Cromwell's invasion to the more recent Civil War in 1922, in which the famous Martello tower was shelled and all but destroyed. Today the complex houses the Millmount Museum which houses a wide variety of artifacts of local and national importance. The complex is Drogheda's most dominant feature, clearly visible from all parts of the town. The Martello tower is affectionately known as The Cup and Saucer by locals
**********************************************
Fear of an invasion by Napoleon Bonaparte reached panic proportions among the authorities in Ireland and England in 1804 and was the reason Martello Towers were built, first in Ireland and then in England. Their purpose was to provide what were, in those days, 'bombproof' towers from which fire could be directed at ships of the hourly expected French invasion fleet. Martello Tower Sutton was the first Tower to be built in Dublin and is referred to in the annals as Tower No. 1.

Night At The Museum Secret Of The Tomb - Larry Daley meets Cecil Fredericks - Cecil returns
Larry reunites with Cecil, now in retirement, who realizes the end of the tablet's magic will cause the exhibits to become lifeless. Cecil explains that Ahkmenrah's parents, Merenkahre and Shepseheret, may be able to restore the tablet's power but that they are located in the British Museum.
Cecil returns along with Gus and Reginald in Night At The Museum Secret Of The Tomb. Larry visits them at the retirement home to ask them about why the Tablet of Ahkmenrah is corroding. Cecil reveals to Larry that he and his father were part of the expedition to find Ahkmenrah's tomb, and that a local warned them about removing items from the tomb.
This shows where Larry Daley meets Cecil Fredericks at the retirement home alongside with his colleagues that they were former museum guards at The Museum Natural Of History, Gus & Reginald.
