► WHO AM I?
Short answer: I am a Brazilian journalist living in the United States. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged the life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!

WALKING BATU CAVES | KUALA LUMPUR | MALAYSIA
Batu Caves is a limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples in Gombak, Selangor, Malaysia. It takes its name from the Sungai Batu (Stone River), which flows past the hill. It is the tenth (பத்து - Pathu in Tamil) limestone hill from Ampang. Batu Caves is also the name of a nearby village.
The cave is one of the most popular Tamil shrines outside India, and is dedicated to Lord Murugan (Tamil God Murugan Tamil: தமிழ்க் கடவுள் முருகன்). It is the focal point of Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia.
Batu Caves in short also referred as 10th Caves or Hill for Lord Muruga as there are six important holy shrines in India and four more in Malaysia. The three others in Malaysia are Kallumalai Temple in Ipoh, Tanneermalai Temple in Penang and Sannasimalai Temple in Malacca.

Explore the Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Join us as we explore the enchanting Batu Caves in Malaysia.
If you’re looking for exciting things to do in Kuala Lumpur on your next visit to Southeast Asia, the Batu Caves just may be the answer. Located 30 minutes north of the city, these caves are thought to be more than 400 million years old. Fascinating thanks to both their spiritual elements and topographic features, the Batu Caves attract more than one million pilgrims each year.
The first thing you’ll probably notice is the regal statue of Lord Murugan. Standing roughly 141 feet tall, it’s the world’s largest representation of the Hindu deity. After marveling at the gold god of war, ascend all 272 steps to arrive inside the magnificent Temple Cave. Soak up the immense serenity and pay your respects at the Hindu shrines. At the bottom of the staircase, you’ll come across the Art Gallery Cave and the Museum Cave, which have many shrines and paintings depicting Lord Murugan’s victory. The Ramayana Cave is another area, devoted to Lord Hanuman, the Hindu monkey god.
During the annual Thaipusam Festival, Hindus from around the world flock to the caves. Devotees travel in a procession from a temple in Kuala Lumpur to the Batu Caves. They come with altars and milk offerings for Lord Murugan.
In addition to the shrines inside, wild animals inhabit the Batu Caves, adding even more allure to the temple. Keep your eyes peeled for fruit bats and different kinds of birds swooping around the caverns. It’s easy to spot the resident macaque monkeys hanging around, but while they may look cute and friendly, keep your distance—they’re notorious for grabbing food and even biting tourists.
These limestone rock formations reach nearly 500 feet in some areas. Craving some adventure? Grab a rope and slip into your climbing shoes! The Batu Caves have become a popular rock climbing destination, as they feature more than 160 routes. Even if braving heights isn’t your calling, it’s still thrilling to watch the rock climbers scale the ancient caves in such a calm and peaceful spot.
You don’t have to be religious to appreciate the Batu Caves. More than just a sacred place for Hindu shrines, these magnificent caves have stood the test of time. Watch our video guide to get a sneak peek at these antique caverns and start planning your adventure to Malaysia!

Thaipusam 2019, Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia 4K, January 21, 2019
Thaipusam is a colourful annual celebration in honour of the Hindu god Subramanian, with festivities mainly taking place in Batu Caves – a limestone hill with a series of caverns and temples about 13km north of KL. It is a famous festival largely because of the practice of devotees who impale their bodies with long metal skewers during the event. Celebrated by the city’s Indian community, Thaipusam is one of the best times to visit Batu Caves. 272 stairs lead to the top and just inside the front door, piles of stone slabs have fashioned out a sort of Norman arch that frames a giant, granite-carved statue of Lord Subramanian. Inside the caves are more exquisitely carved Hindu guardian figures; some statues at Batu Caves, like the four-armed depiction of Prithvi, look deeply peaceful while others (such as the giant, green-skinned Lord Hanuman) are intimidating.

BIT BY A MONKEY in Malaysia - Batu Caves Kuala Lumpur
Ryan was bit by a monkey in Malaysia while visiting the Batu Caves Kuala Lumpur. $2500 RM and 4 rabies shots later, at least we know he won’t contract rabies from the monkey bite and die.
Monkeys are everywhere at the Batu Caves and they are extremely dangerous. The monkey attacks are becoming more and more frequent as tourists are told by “salesman” that the monkeys like being fed peanuts. This makes the monkeys greedy and aggressive. Although we weren’t feeding the monkeys when Ryan got bit, we were stunned to see a rabid monkey in Malaysia jump out of nowhere and bite down on Ryan’s arm. I’m sure this wasn’t the first monkey bite at Batu Caves, and we know it won’t be the last!
Other than the potential rabies contraction, we had a great time exploring and learning about the Batu Caves history. We climbed the 272 steps to see the Hindu Batu Caves Temple and were astonished at how grand the caves were! When we got up to the Batu Caves temple, we realized there was another level, even higher up where the sky was exposed by an opening in the caves. It was breathtaking.
On the way back down we decided to skip the dark cave tour, but we witnessed more monkeys and they were still ruthless. A monkey attacks a tourist when it saw a can of pringles hanging out of her bag. We decided to get down from the Batu Caves as soon as possible. Once we made it to the bottom, we met up with one of our amazing fans, Linda!! Thank you so much for the mango Linda, it was truly our pleasure meeting you and we are so happy we crossed paths. Until we meet again :)
If you can avoid being chomped by a monkey, the Batu Caves Kuala Lumpur is an excellent tourist activity right outside of the main city. There is no entrance fee, so this amazing temple and it’s beautiful surroundings are free for the public to enjoy. We hope you enjoyed this Malaysia vlog and can avoid any monkey bites if you decide to come visit. Luckily, Ryan’s bite was not serious but the cost of a rabies vaccination is not cheap. Thanks for watching and stick around for more travel vlogs every week!
