The Real Bali | Drought, Floods, Forest Fires, Volcano? | Karya Agung Pengurip Gumi Pura Batu Kau
THE WORLD IS BEING RAVAGED AND TORN APART BY WILDFIRES, FLOODS, DROUGHT, EARTHQUAKES, EXTREME WEATHER AND OF COURSE GLOBAL WARMING.
Aside from the many efforts such as Trash Hero and other community based efforts (that we have previously covered on the show) to reverse this effect on the climate that local and expat communities all over Bali are taking part in, the people of Bali hold a belief system that requires changes to the sacred life of Balinese people. At the foot of Batu Karu Mountain at Batu Kau Temple in the Tabanan Regency, the people of Bali have called an emergency state of not only the physical world, but the spiritual world. Follow our team as we investigate what it is that the Balinese people believe is required to bring balance to the worlds seen and unseen (sekala and niskala) and we investigate the ways in which the people hope to restore balance to the Earth spiritually, so we may begin to heal her physically.
CHECK THIS OUT:
Hi I'm Andy88bali and Welcome to The Real Bali!
In our newest series we take you to places in Bali that are still unexplored for the purpose of finding new and old parts of Bali as they really are. The Real Bali is an effort by Surya Home Creative to show the world parts of Bali that you may never have seen, expose amazing stories, locations, culinary, music, dance and all things related to Balinese Culture.
THIS EPISODE: Drought, Floods, Forest Fires, Volcano? | Karya Agung Pengurip Gumi Pura Batu Kau
Our team ventures to the foot of Batu Karu Mountain in Tabanan Regency where we investigate a peculiar and rare ceremony called Karya Agung Pengurip Gumi.
Most ceremonies in Bali follow a very intricate system of scheduling based on the lunar calendar, the three day week, the five day week and the seven day week. These ceremonies happen based upon systems of rotation related to astrological calendar cycles that dictate some ceremonies must happen as frequent as every six months and others as far apart as 100 years, 200 years and so forth. These ceremonies have their dates determined by experts who utilise astronomy, astrology and ancient maths such as numerology to interpret calendars and project when these ceremonies may happen. The calendrical system utilized in Bali combines all of these with the western Gregorian calendar superimposed over the Saka calendar which draws its namesake from the South Indian Dynasty that developed it almost 2000 years ago.
But what about events that the Calendar Can't Predict?
What happens when the ENTIRE WORLD FALLS INTO A CRISIS?
It must first be noted that the peoples of Bali live a highly spiritual existence in which every Balinese is immersed from birth. Everybody lives each day carefully keeping one foot in the physical world, and one foot in the spiritual world. The Balinese have terms for this: Sekala (the physical realm) and Niskala (The metaphysical or unseen realm).
With natural disasters and extreme weather happening all over the world, the Balinese have decided to take things into their own hands (spiritually) and have consulted experts in the calendar to find a proper day (dewase) to conduct a different type of ceremony, a CRISIS CEREMONY. This ceremony only occurs when it is deemed as needed. The point of this ceremony is to naturalize the spirit world and realign the realms in hopes that we may be able to face the physical challenges ahead.
The experts have consulted the calendars and decided that on January 20 2020 will be a ceremony to balance the realms called KARYA AGUNG PENGURIP GUMI
