Historical Center Baugnez 44 / Belgien

Steve Domitrovich (2015): Last Survivor of Malmedy Massacre

Malmedy and the United States altitude to Justice and Torture 1_7 .
It starts arround the mid of part 2 to become really interesting.
This is the documentary Über Galgen wächst kein Gras (lit. No Grass grows over gallows), to which I have created english subtitles.
Its Theme is mainly the Malmedy trial, which was Part of the infamous Dachau trials, taking place in the former Concentration Camp for manipulative reasons. The documentary will then go on to interview the last surviving german veterans held accountable for the Malmedy Massacre and what happened to them by the hands of a presumably fair and objective trial.
Torture at the extraction of Statements or Confessions was normal practice and it is crucial to know that accused were tortured to extract confessions or form statements on all trials immediately after the war in Germany.
Torture of German army personal was widely spread and accepted or even wanted for purposes of propaganda stories to further justify Allied atrocities as well as gathering arguments for the re-education of the German public opinion.
Alas, it was widely known to Allied society though if suppressed.
Already in January 23, 1949, American Judge Edward L. van Roden, who had investigated allegations to this effect as a member of an official Commission of Inquiry on the matter confirmed the widespread use of torture to extract wanted statements of any kind. The outrageous range of crime committed after the war will already become obvious when one faces that virtually all but two (of 139 cases investigated during the Inquiry) of German personal had destroyed testicles beyond repair.
The Defendants stated further, that even the strategy of comparing the alleged crimes with crimes committed by Allied Army personal, to lead the argument ad-absurdum lead to the remark being excluded or erased from the transcripts.
The Malmedy Trials were complete show trials of winner-justice and giving the American public what it wanted to have -- Reasons for a Just War

Saints and Soldiers: Malmedy massacre
One of the worst crimes in my opinion of the entire war, The Malmedy massacre refers to a war crime in which about 90 American prisoners of war were murdered by their German captors. The massacre was committed on December 17, 1944 by Kampfgruppe Peiper (part of the 1st SS Panzer Division), a German combat unit, during the Battle of the Bulge.
This massacre, as well as others committed by the same unit the same day and on the following days, was the subject of a trial during the Dachau Trials of 1946.
