The White City's Huge Collection of Bauhaus Buildings
Did you know that Tel Aviv is one of the largest Bauhaus art capitals of the world? Bahuas architecture was influenced by the German Bauhaus art school, one of the most prominent modernist art schools of the 20th century. Tel Aviv is known as the White City referring to its 4,000 Bauhaus style structures which are mostly white. These restored buildings combine industrial design and modern art and are the largest collection of Bauhaus buildings worldwide. For this reason, Tel Aviv has been designated by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site for an outstanding example of new town planning and architecture in the early 20th century.

Tel Aviv White City Bauhaus Style - Tel Aviv Architecture
The White City (Hebrew: העיר הלבנה, Ha-Ir ha-Levana) refers to a collection of over 4,000 buildings built in a unique form of the Bauhaus or International Style in Tel Aviv from the 1930s by German Jewish architects who immigrated to the British Mandate of Palestine after the rise of the Nazis. Tel Aviv has the largest number of buildings in the Bauhaus/International Style of any city in the world. Preservation, documentation, and exhibitions have brought attention to Tel Aviv's collection of 1930s architecture. In 2003, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) proclaimed Tel Aviv's White City a World Cultural Heritage site, as an outstanding example of new town planning and architecture in the early 20th century.[1] The citation recognized the unique adaptation of modern international architectural trends to the cultural, climatic, and local traditions of the city. Bauhaus Center Tel Aviv organizes regular architectural tours of the city.

My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

Tel Aviv's Electric Garden
An old Tel Aviv neighborhood now being gentrified has become the unlikely heart of Israel's burgeoning alternative fashion industry.
It's one of Tel Aviv's oldest neighborhoods, but now Gan Hahashmal -- the Electric Garden -- so called for being Israel's first neighborhood to house a power plant, is famous for its alternative fashion boutiques.
There's an atmosphere of creativity in the neighborhood, says Idit Barak, owner of Delicatessen Boutique There are some artists' studios and fashion. It's not like Dizengoff [Boulevard] where the boutiques are glued back to back. There's a nice mix. Here it's more like a stroll in the city and you find all kinds of little places.
Gan Hahashmal is a prime place to view Bauhaus style buildings, many of them currently being renovated, along with an eclectic mix of trendy stores, cafes, hardware stores and shoemakers -- even a medical supply warehouse.
I choose to work here because it's an interesting place, a place that stimulates inspiration, says jewelry designer Hagar Satat (hagarsatat.com).
Tel Aviv and Bauhaus
CosmicNavigator.com
Light comes out of darkness and much good can come out of evil. The story of Tel Aviv and its love affair with Bauhaus architecture is one good example. In 2003, Tel Aviv was proclaimed a world cultural heritage site by Unesco since it has the highest concentration of Bauhaus buildings - 4000 of them. Isn't it ironic, that while the German, the people who conceived Bauhaus where busy exterminating the Jewish heritage, the Jews who fled built a city to preserve the culture of their persecutors. It is as if the spirit of Bauhaus left Germany and traveled to the dunes of Tel Aviv. Indeed in Kabbalah, the feminine spirit of God is called the Shekinah, which in Hebrew means the dwelling place, the house, the Bauhaus. Indeed out of darkness comes bright light.
