Bauska Castle (Latvian: Bauskas pils; German: Schloss Bauske) is a complex consisting of the ruins of an earlier castle and a later palace on the outskirts of the Latvian city of Bauska.
Bauskan linna on tyypillinen 1500 - 1700-luvun sotilaallisen arkkitehtuurin esimerkki Latviassa. Sen vanhempi osa on ainoa erityisesti käsituliaseiden käyttöä varten rakennettu Liivinmaan ritarikunnan linnoitus.

Bauska Castle
The Latvian town of Bauska is also known as Баускъ, בויסק, Bausken, and Bowsk.
This video covers the castle of Bauska which stands between rivers of Mēmele and Mūsa. On a distance of a kilometer west of the castle those rivers join together and form a river of Lielupe, which run through towns of Jelgava and Jūrmala to the Rīga gulf of Baltic sea.

Bauska Castle
The impressive castle, the remains of which were recently restored, stands on the narrow peninsula at the confluence of the rivers Mūsa and Mēmele where they form the Lielupe river. In ancient times, the hill was the site of an ancient Semigallian fortress. The first stone buildings were established between 1443 and 1456 by the Livonian branch of the Teutonic Knights and construction continued till the end of the 16th century. The old section of the castle featured a great watch tower, 3.5 meter thick walls, a prison under the tower, a garrison, and a drawbridge at the gates.
After the collapse of the Teutonic Order in this area in 1562, Bauska Castle became the residence of the Dukes of Courland, for whom the adjacent palace was built in the 17th century. In 1702, during the Great Northern War, both castle and palace were blown up and left abandoned.

Bauskas pils ansamblis sastāv no divām daļām.

Bauska Castle is a typical example of the 15th-17th century military architecture in Latvia. The castle is located in the Town of Bauska, amidst picturesque scenery on a strip of land between the Rivers Mūsa and Mēmele.
Bauska Castle is a typical example of the 15th-17th century military architecture in Latvia. Its oldest part is the only stronghold the Livonian Order ever built specifically to resist firearms, but the more recent part is a residential castle fortified with bastions, defence walls and ramparts. The structure is the only partially preserved residence of the Kettlers, Dukes of Courland and Semigallia, as well as the only architectural monument in Latvia which illustrates the Mannerism style in the architecture of castles and applied and decorative art of the Duchy of Courland.
In 1970s the renovation of the newest part of the castle was started, to enable this national scale monument of history, archaeology and architecture to be promoted as a site of cultural tourism, to set up themed expositions about Bauska Castle at the crossroads of the history of the Livonian State and the Duchy of Courland.
