RED RED WINE!! Dry red wine review. Baxter's Vineyards & Winery, Nauvoo Illinois
BillGoudy sent me a bottle of wine from his home state of Illinois and Illinois oldest operating wineries. Baxter's Vineyards and Winery has been making wine since 1857 and is currently run by 5th generation Baxter's. It is located in Nauvoo, Illinois and is on the banks of the Mississippi River. This was a dry red wine, Classic Norton Estate Classics. This red wine has notes of rich spice and smokiness, peppery with a hint of vanilla. This wine is very rich and would pair very well with red meat or salmon. Make sure to check out the website and try some for yourself. Cheers:))
Make sure to check out BillGoudy's site @ and tell him Babeeblue sent ya;))

Grapes have been growing in Illinois for over 150 years. One of the first areas to begin growing grapes was on the banks of the Mississippi in Nauvoo.
The oldest recorded Concord vineyard in Illinois was planted in 1851 and is located in Nauvoo State Park; the vineyard is still producing fruit.
By 1880 there were over 600 acres (2.4 km2) of grapes and 40 wine cellars in Nauvoo, and the town was known for its fine wines.
The oldest surviving family-owned vineyard in Illinois is also located in Nauvoo.
Emile Baxter came to Nauvoo in 1855 to join an Icarian commune and remained after the breakup of the group.
Learning about grape culture from his Icarian friends, Emile planted 8 acres (32,000 m2) of vineyards.
After Prohibition in 1936, the Baxter family winery became Illinois' first bonded winery.
In a sharply different region of Illinois, the Shawnee Hills, Guy Renzaglia founded Alto Vineyards in 1982.
He planted new varieties such as Chancellor, Chambourcin, Vidal blanc, and Villard blanc.
Renzaglia and two other growers founded the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail in the 1990s.
As of 2004, 63 Illinois wineries, working with 193 grape arbors, produced 451,079 U.S. gallons (1.7 million liters) of wine annually with an annual total positive economic impact estimated at $20 million

Tasting Jowler Creek's Nort wine
Learn more about Jowler Creek Nort wine from winemaker Jason Gerke. Since it's not made in Portugal, we can't call it a Port. Making this wine from Missouri's official State Grape imparts Nort with its own sense of place.This thick dessert is 100-percent Norton grapes fortified early in the fermentation to retain the grape's natural sweetness. Jowler Creek is Missouri's first green vineyard and winery and is located just 30 minutes North of downtown Kansas City. We currently make eight award-winning wines in various styles ranging from dry to sweet. We use green technologies, such as solar power, to make our wine and use sheep to control weeds and chickens to reduce insects in our 7-acre sustainable vineyard. Find out more at jowlercreek.com.

SUMMARY
=======
Étienne Cabet (French: [kabɛ]; January 1, 1788 – November 9, 1856) was a French philosopher and utopian socialist who founded the Icarian movement. Cabet became the most popular socialist advocate of his day, with a special appeal to artisans who were being undercut by factories, and his commutarian ideals (although decidedly Christian based on the Golden Rule) would later influence Karl Marx and others. In a best-selling book published in 1840, anglicized as Travels in Icaria, Cabet proposed to replace capitalist production with workers' cooperatives, but recurrent problems with French officials (a treason conviction in 1834 resulted in five years' exile in England), led him to emigrate to the United States. Cabet founded utopian communities in Texas and Illinois, but was again undercut, this time by recurring feuds with his followers.
