Way of the roses. Morecambe to Bridlington coast to coast cycle ride
Morecambe to Bridlington cycle ride, using the Way Of The Roses coast to coast Sustrans cycle route number 69.
170 miles in distance with some very very hard hills between Settle and Pateley Bridge on the first day.
All told we cycled 189 miles over 3 days whilst carrying all our camping gear, clothes and some food.
We even managed to beat the Carbon Fibre Boys up the hills whilst carrying all our kit, and they were carrying nothing but lycra shorts and expensive sunglasses.

Racing across the Severn (suspension) Bridge - Wales to England
The Second Severn Crossing (Welsh: Ail Groesfan Hafren) is the M4 motorway bridge over the River Severn between England and Wales, inaugurated on 5 June 1996 by HRH The Prince of Wales to augment the traffic capacity of the original Severn Bridge built in 1966. The bridge marks the lower limit of the River Severn and the start of the Severn Estuary.
Its location is farther to the south than the old bridge and, being more in line with the landward sides of the M4, is a shorter journey when travelling between England and South Wales. The junctions at each end are designed for most traffic to use this crossing, and in order to use the old Severn Bridge crossing, one has to leave the M4 and join the M48 either at Aust or near Magor. The new crossing carries more traffic than the Severn Bridge, which is still in use. It is much wider than the Severn Bridge, having three lanes and a narrow hard shoulder each way, compared with the two lanes, cycle path and narrow footpath of the original crossing...
Europe:
Europe is a continent located entirely in the Northern Hemisphere and mostly in the Eastern Hemisphere. Europe is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. It comprises the westernmost part of Eurasia. Europe is generally considered as separated from Asia by the watershed divides of the Ural and Caucasus Mountains, the Ural River, the Caspian and Black Seas, and the waterways of the Turkish Straits.[5] Yet the non-oceanic boundary between Europe and Asia—a concept dating back to classical antiquity—is arbitrary and amounts to a historical and social construct.
Canada:
Canada (/ˈkænədə/; French: [kanadɑ]) is a country which is located in the northern part of North America. Its ten provinces and three territories extend from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the Arctic Ocean, covering 9.98 million square kilometres (3.85 million square miles), making it the world's second-largest country by total area, and the fourth-largest country by land area. Canada's southern border with the United States is the world's longest bi-national land border. The majority of the country has a cold or severely cold winter climate, but southern areas are warm in summer. Canada is sparsely populated, the majority of its land territory being dominated by forest and tundra and the Rocky Mountains. It is highly urbanized with 82 percent of the 35.15 million people concentrated in large and medium-sized cities, many near the southern border. Its capital is Ottawa, and its three largest metropolitan areas are Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.
United States:
The United States of America (USA), commonly known as the United States (U.S.) or America (/əˈmɛrɪkə/), is a federal republic[16][17] composed of 50 states, a federal district, five major self-governing territories, and various possessions.[fn 6] Forty-eight states and the federal district are contiguous and located in North America between Canada and Mexico. The state of Alaska is in the northwest corner of North America, bordered by Canada to the east and across the Bering Strait from Russia to the west. The state of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific Ocean. The U.S. territories are scattered about the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, stretching across nine official time zones. The extremely diverse geography, climate and wildlife of the United States make it one of the world's 17 megadiverse countries.[19]
At 3.8 million square miles (9.8 million km2)[20] and with over 324 million people, the United States is the world's third- or fourth-largest country by total area,[fn 7] and the third-most populous. The capital is Washington, D.C., and the largest city is New York City; twelve other major metropolitan areas—each with at least 4.5 million inhabitants—are Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Riverside.
Coast to coast cycle Morecambe to Bridlington 140miles C2C
Cycling across the UK, from Morecambe to Bridlington is a challenge, to do so in a single day requires a high level of fitness... or a high degree of madness!
In September, our intrepid team of six men, all clad in Lycra (putting function ahead of looks and credibility) will attempted to cycle from the west coast of England to the east coast. At a distance of approximately 140 miles and with some rather lumpy terrain in the way, it's uncertain how many of the six make it...

Morecambe Bay
This was our first proper day enjoying the beach cottage at Morecambe Bay. It's January, but the kids had a grand time stomping in the water and throwing rocks (at least the 1 and 3 year olds enjoyed that!) and watching the birds and digging for cockles and fish.
We have taken the plunge into unschooling and this video shows you exactly how real life can inspire more than any classroom. The older kids are learning geography, geology, natural history, local history, ecology and lots of other things.
And me? I'm just trying to avoid the quicksand....

My Complete Video Footage Of The Way Of The Roses Cycle Trail
I am pleased to say that this is my complete video footage of me cycling all sections of The Way Of The Roses Cycle route during the Spring and Summer of 2017 in various stages. It is a very popular Northern England Sustrans route developed for the National Cycle Network in 2011 That stretches 170 miles from the East Yorkshire seaside resort of Bridlington to Morecambe in Lancashire. My route is also extended about 20 miles along Morecambe Bay to the lovely coastal village of Arnside in Cumbria which is on part of a new National route called The Bay Cycle Way. I wish you all the pleasure of watching some of my stunning cycling through The Yorkshire Wolds and Dales taking in some of Yorkshire's most scenic villages. More pictures of my rides around these areas of Yorkshire and Lancashire can be found at my following webpages and more on the Yorkshire Dales section can be found at
