Medina Of Fez ???????? Morocco Best City - Travel & Discover
Founded in the 9th century and home to the oldest university in the world, Fez reached its height in the 13th–14th centuries under the Marinids, when it replaced Marrakesh as the capital of the kingdom. The urban fabric and the principal monuments in the medina – madrasas, fondouks, palaces, residences, mosques and fountains - date from this period. Although the political capital of Morocco was transferred to Rabat in 1912, Fez has retained its status as the country's cultural and spiritual centre.

Fez: City Of Saints (1/2)
In March 2011, on the eve of the 'Arab Spring', leading Islamic scholars convened in the ancient city of Fez for a summit seeking hope and a new vision for the future of the Muslim world. Among the international participants in this historic summit chaired by Shaykh Abdallah Bin Bayyah was Habib Umar bin Hafiz, a prominent scholar and founder of the renowned Dar al Mustafa Seminary in Tarim,Yemen.
It was Habib Umar's first trip to the Maghreb. The film captures his travels and responses as he journeys through a land brimming with spirituality, knowledge and history. From the serene courtyards of University of Qarawiyyin to bustling souk streets, from walled city of Fez to the mountainous sanctuary of Moulay Idris, the film shares the spiritual secrets of the places and their stories.
The beauty of the great city of Fez, founded by descendants of the Noble Prophetﷺ, is shared by a visitor, Habib Umar, who is himself a descendant of that great household. The result is a moving meeting of two traditions that form the very core of great Islamic narrative.

The Incredible Tanneries of Fes/Fez, Morocco
If I had to pick just one highlight in Fes/Fez, it would have to be the incredible tanneries. No visit to Fes/Fez is complete without viewing from one of the many leather workshops that overlook the dye pots.
The 11th century tanneries are the oldest in North Africa and this is where animals skins are treated and dyed before being sold and made into bags, jackets and belts. Each week, a different color dye is used and today's color happened to be red.
