Cardiff, Wales - Travel Around The World | Top best places to visit in Cardiff
Top best places to visit in Cardiff, Wales
Cardiff is the capital and largest city of Wales and the tenth largest city in the United Kingdom.
Cardiff, City of Arcades, is famous for Victorian, Edwardian and contemporary indoor shopping arcades but it’s also a national financial and cultural hub.
The center of the town is situated around Cardiff Castle.
This is a medieval castle built in the late 11th century by Norman invaders on top of the 3rd century Roman fort.
Nowadays, unique arcades and major pedestrian streets around the castle make a great atmosphere to relax and to do shopping in style.
The castle is surrounded by two parks, where you can find the City Hall, National Museum and many more impressive buildings.
At the back of town hall are the Alexandra Gardens whose center contains the beautiful National War Memorial of Wales.
Close to the Castle is also the Millennium Stadium, a must see arena for any sport lover.
One of the most popular spots among tourists and residents is Cardiff Bay.
This area is full of restaurants, bars, notable buildings and amazing views.
The first place to go here is the futuristic Wales Millennium Centre for opera, theater, gallery and tourist information.
The next landmarks to see are:
The former headquarters of the Dock Company, the Pierhead Building.
And, standing just next to it, the Senedd, home to the National Assembly for Wales.
You can also take a lovely 2km walk with the harbor on one side of the path and the sea on the other.
There are many castles just outside of the city that are worth visiting. Castell Coch is one of them.
The first stronghold on the site was built by the Normans in the 11th century, and the most recent walls comes from the 19th century.
8 miles outside of Cardiff is a small town Caerphilly which is know for its medieval castle.
The fortification, which was constructed in the 13th century, is surrounded by extensive artificial lakes.
This picturesque citadel is the second largest castle in Britain.

UK: Protesters march for Welsh independence in Cardiff
Subscribe to our channel! rupt.ly/subscribe
Around 1000 protesters took to the streets of Cardiff, on Saturday, to call for Welsh independence from the United Kingdom.
Our democracy is held hostage because everyone is always trying to vote based on what happens in London and not in Cardiff said one protester. Another participant said that she believed that “Brexit negotiations will help the push for independence. Wales and England both voted for Brexit while Northern Ireland and Scotland voted to remain in the EU.
Wales was conquered by England during the 13th century and finally incorporated fully into the then Kingdom of England by the 16th century.
In 1998 the devolved Welsh Assembly was created giving Wales a limited degree of self-rule, with the UK's House of Commons still being superior in many matters.
The Welsh political party Plaid Cymru, which has representation in the House of Commons, the European Parliament and in the Welsh Assembly, advocates for Welsh independence.
Most opinion polling from Wales indicates that while there is not a majority in favour of full independence, a plurality do support increased devolution with more powers for the Welsh Assembly.

National Museum Cardiff, Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom, Europe
National Museum Cardiff is a museum and art gallery in Cardiff, Wales. The museum is part of the wider network of Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales. Entry is kept free by a grant from the Welsh Government. The National Museum of Wales was founded in 1907, when it inherited the collection of the Cardiff Museum, which shared the building of Cardiff Central Library. Construction of a new building in the civic complex of Cathays Park began in 1912, but owing to the First World War it did not open to the public until 1927. The architects were Arnold Dunbar Smith and Cecil Brewer, although the building as it now stands is a heavily truncated version of their design. The museum has collections of archaeology, botany, fine and applied art, geology and zoology. In 2011, with funding from the Clore Duffield Foundation, the former Glanely Gallery was transformed into the Clore Discovery Centre, which offers hands-on exploration of the museums 7.5 million items that are normally in storage, including insects, fossils and Bronze Age weapons. School groups, formal and informal groups can also be accommodated but should book in advance. The National Museum of Art opened in 2011. The collection of Old Master paintings in Cardiff includes, among other notable works, The Virgin and Child between Saint Helena and St Francis by Amico Aspertini, The Poulterer's Shop by Frans Snyders and A Calm by Jan van de Cappelle. A collection of landscape paintings in the classical tradition includes works by Claude, Gaspard Dughet, Salvator Rosa and two works by Nicolas Poussin: The Funeral of Phocion and The Finding of Moses (the latter owned jointly by the Museum and the National Gallery, London). These works prefigure the career of the Welsh-born Richard Wilson, called the father of British landscape painting. In 1979 four cartoons for tapestries illustrating scenes from the Aeneid were bought as works by Peter Paul Rubens, but the attribution is now disputed. There is a gallery devoted to British patronage of the eighteenth century, in particular that of Sir Watkin Williams Wynn, who was nicknamed 'the Welsh Medici' for his lavish spending on the arts. Included is a portrait of Williams-Wynn in Rome with fellow Tourists by Pompeo Batoni, one of his second wife by Sir Joshua Reynolds and his chamber organ designed by Robert Adam. Other paintings of note from this period is a portrait of Viscountess Elizabeth Bulkeley of Beaumaris as the mythological character Hebe, by the 'sublime and terrible' George Romney, and Johann Zoffany's group portrait of Henry Knight, a Glamorgan landowner, with his children. The collection of French art assembled by Margaret and Gwendoline Davies, granddaughters of the wealthy industrialist David Davies bequeathed to the National Museum in the 1950s and 1960s, make Wales's National Gallery one of international standing. It includes the largest group of paintings by Honoré Daumier in the world and the most important by Jean-François Millet in Britain. Works by Claude Monet include San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk and examples form his Rouen Cathedral and Water Lilies series. Post-impressionism is represented by Van Gogh's late work Rain at Auvers, and by Paul Cézanne's The François Zola Dam, the first painting by the artist to be displayed in a British public collection. The two most famous works in the Davies Sisters' collection are La Parisienne by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, exhibited in the First Impressionist Exhibition, and a version of Rodin's Kiss cast in bronze. The art gallery has works by all of the notable Welsh artists, including landscapes by Richard Wilson and the pioneering Thomas Jones. There is a considerable body of work by John Gibson, Queen Victoria's favourite sculptor, and major paintings by Augustus John and his sister Gwen John, including the former's famous image of Dylan Thomas. Ceri Richards is well represented. The artistic output of David Jones is well represented, but seldom on display owing to the fragile nature of his works on paper. Wales's most prominent contemporary painter, Sir Kyffin Williams (1918-2006), also features in the collection. The collection of 20th-century art includes works by sculptors Jacob Epstein and Eric Gill and painters including Stanley Spencer, the British Impressionist Wynford Dewhurst, L. S. Lowry and Oskar Kokoschka. Works by contemporary artists are on rotational display, including those by Lucian Freud, Francis Bacon, Frank Auerbach and Rachel Whiteread.

10 Things to do in Cardiff, Wales Travel Guide
Join us from Cardiff, Wales as we cover 10 things to do in Cardiff city including popular attractions, cool castes, green escapes, and Welsh food worth trying in this travel guide. Although we were sick for most of our visit to Cardiff, UK we ended up still finding enough time to visit the city center, our neighborhood and a few off-the-beaten path attractions.
What we loved most about Cardiff, Wales is just how friendly the locals here are in the supermarkets, restaurants, pubs and cafe that we frequented. On a rainy day we might put on the kettle, down a few Welsh cakes and pop open our umbrella for a wee stroll. When it was sunny, which fortunately for us was most of the time, we enjoyed exploring castles and arcades while wandering around in parks.
Cardiff is a city you appreciate the more you linger. You start to find favorite cafes, restaurants and pubs you return to frequently and after a while you feel more like a local after recognizing faces in and around your neighborhood. This is what we'll remember most and why we recommend visiting Cardiff which is a city with more of a town vibe.

10 Things to do in Cardiff, Wales Travel Guide Video Script:
Well hello hello from Cardiff, Wales. New destination for us. New destination. It is our very first time to Wales and we're so excited to be here. We've wanted to come to Wales for a really long time and we're going to explore Cardiff and show you guys what you can do here in this travel guide.
We started our visit of Cardiff Castle with a self-guided tour of the Castle Apartments. This is the newest-looking part of the castle as it was renovated in the early 19th century in the Gothic revival style. As part of the tour we got to see the Banqueting Hall, the Library, and a few different rooms, but the place that really caught our attention was the Arab room designed in a Moorish style which is quite different from the rest of the rooms.
We continued on to the Norman Keep, which dates to the 11th century. The 12-sided structure sits atop a hill and is surrounded by a moat, and if you climb to the very top you get some nice 360 degree views of the city.
And lastly, we visited the roman walls, and although these too have been renovated, the foundations date back to 50 AD.
And that’s it for our visit to Cardiff, Wales. Our trip was short and sweet but we hope this video gave you a few ideas of things to do in Cardiff on your own visit. Now you know the drill, if you have any other suggestions of cool things to do in and around Cardiff, feel free to share those with fellow travellers in the comments below. Wishing you happy travels!
