Do 1954 istniała gmina Zegrze. W latach 1975-1998 miejscowość administracyjnie należała do województwa warszawskiego. Nieporęt i Jadwisin sąsiadują z Zegrzem.

Wieś targowa położona nad Narwią (w wyniku budowy zapory w Dębem istnieje obecnie Zalew Zegrzyński), istniejąca już w XII wieku, a wzmiankowana na piśmie w XIV w. Do XVII w. nazywana Zgierz, co było staropolskim określeniem brodu. Początkowo własność Strumiłło-Zgierskich, od połowy XVII wieku należała do rodu Krasińskich, w 1862 przeszła na rzecz Radziwiłłów. Później odkupiona przez rząd rosyjski celem wzniesienia twierdzy uzupełniającej od północy umocnienia Warszawskiego Rejonu Fortecznego: Twierdzy Modlin i Twierdzy Warszawa.
Po wojnie 13 czerwca 1963 roku oficjalnie otwarto plażę w Zegrzu i stał się to punkt docelowy weekendowych wyjazdów warszawiaków. W miejscowości znajduje się pałac myśliwski z XIX wieku (obecnie ośrodek wypoczynkowy PAP) oraz kasyno. Cennym, acz nie wykorzystanym turystycznie zabytkiem są forty twierdzy: Umocnienie Duże oraz Umocnienie Małe, zwane także fortami Ordon i Karlinek.
Przez Zegrze przebiega droga krajowa nr 61, na całym odcinku, w granicach miejscowości, dwupasmowa.

By 1954 there was a commune Zegrze. In the years 1975-1998 the area administratively belonged to the province of Warsaw. Zegrze is side by side to Jadwisin and Nieporęt .
History
The village lies on the Narew fair (due to the construction of the barrier there are now Debe Zegrze Reservoir). It already existed in the twelfth century, and first mentioned in writing in the fourteenth century to the seventeenth century called Zgierz, which means ferry in old Polish term . At first it was owned by Strumiłło-Zgierskich, since the mid-seventeenth century, it belonged to a family Krasinski, in 1862 went to the Radziwill family. Later bought by the Russian government to supplement the hill fort from the north to strengthen the Warsaw District Fortress: Fortress Modlin and Warsaw.
After the war , Zegrze beach was officially opened ( 1963 ) and has become a destination weekend tour of Warsaw. In the village there is a hunting palace of the nineteenth century (now resort PAP) and a casino. A valuable, though not utilized tourist landmark fortress forts are: the Big Fort and the Small Fort , also known as Ordon and Karlinek Forts .
By Zegrze is the National road No. 61, two lanes.

Zabawę na świeżym powietrzy i w zimnej wodzie zorganizowała grupa Toruńskie Morsy , która na wspólne morsowanie zaprosiła morsów z Płocka i Włocławka. Podczas imprezy oficjalnie zawiązała się nowa grupa morsów gminy Chełmża do których dołączył wraz z małżonką wójt Jacek Czarnecki.Członkowie beniaminka otrzymali piękne niebieskie polary.
