PICTON, New Zealand (Marlborough): Queen Charlotte Sound Scenic Cruise Vlog l Ep. 14
It's a new day which means we are in Picton, New Zealand! This is an interesting port...if you don't have an excursion booked, you might be bored...you may also be bored on your excursion. LOL. I believe this port is a great port to go wine tasting. I booked my excursion through Norwegian Cruise Line though most cruise lines offer this tour. It is called: QUEEN CHARLOTTE SOUND SCENIC CRUISE and here is the description from NCL's website:
“Cruise the pristine waters of Queen Charlotte Sound on a catamaran, rounding the rugged shoreline, taking in the natural beauty and even feeding fish in a serene cove.
Depart right from the pier on a comfortable catamaran designed for optimal viewing on the typically calm waters of Queen Charlotte Sound. Like all of the sounds within the larger system of Marlborough Sounds, Queen Charlotte was formed when the surrounding river valleys filled with water during the end of the last ice age, approximately 10,000 years ago. It's separated from the other sounds by steep, serrated hills.
Scattered settlements dot the rugged shoreline, most of them so isolated that they can only be reached by boat. The landscape and lush forests haven't changed enormously since Captain James Cook sheltered here during his exploratory voyages in the 1770s. Indeed, the unspoiled natural beauty remains one of the primary draws of this magnificent sound named for Queen Charlotte, the wife of England's King George III.
You'll also spend time in Double Cove feeding the fish, which usually include herring, mullet and cod. Don't be surprised if you see king shags, a type of cormorant, swooping in, as they are highly skilled at catching fish. Still, no matter where you sail on the sound, it's the panoramic views that capture your heart and forever remain in your memory.”
As always, make sure to watch in HD for the best video quality! Hope you enjoy! :)

Paua Pearl Private Tour Beachcomber Cruises
Depart Picton and cruise through the Queen Charlotte Sound, a myriad of waterways and tranquil bays whilst enjoying a commentary from your friendly skipper and guide. Our destination, approximately one hour by boat, is Whekenui Bay on Arapawa Island, a small island of 75km² (29 square miles) flanked by Queen Charlotte Sound, Tory Channel and the Cook Strait. From the late 1820’s until the mid 1960’s Arapawa Island was a whaling base in the Marlborough Sounds. The whaling industry long since abandoned, has given way to salmon, mussel and oyster farms which we will pass as we travel to Whekenui Bay, home to the Radon family.
On arrival you will be greeted by Mike and Antonia Radon, the owners of Arapawa Seafarms, where the unique Blue Pearl or Paua Pearls are grown. They will personally guide you on a tour of the farm, which is not only a place of work but also their home. Discover how the Blue Pearl came to be and see how they are produced. Depending on the time of year, it’s possible to see paua of all sizes, from dust-specs in a larval rearing tank to full size paua with pearl inserts. Don’t miss this opportunity to glimpse a unique part of New Zealand marine life and spend time with experts in the paua industry. Tours takes approximately 1 hour.
Once you have finished your tour venture up to the Radon homestead, where you will be served light refreshments before heading back to Picton. Take the time to view the rare and exclusive pearls in custom made jewelry, the only place in the world where you can buy these unique pearls.

The Link Pathway - Inner Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand
The Link Pathway Te Ara Tuhono is a high quality pathway being created on public land as a community project in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand. A free-to-use walking / mountain-biking pathway between Havelock and Picton, it is 42 kilometres long, and of a gentle and even gradient (mostly national cycleway standard grade 2).
With numerous potential start and end points for those wanting shorter excursions, the pathway features stunning vistas as it gently winds through mostly bush-clad hillsides to pleasant bays and beaches and small communities in the Inner Marlborough Sounds.
The Link Pathway includes several sections of a historic bridle path, built by early settlers and miners in the 1860’s, and also WW2 military ruins.
It joins with the popular Queen Charlotte Track at Anakiwa, providing a link with Ship Cove for walkers / cyclists going to / from Picton or Havelock. The western half of the Link Pathway is part of the country-long Te Araroa Pathway.
Three-quarters of the Link Pathway is open, with the remainder due to be completed by 2020.
