Snowdon Mountain Railway - North Wales 1st September 2011- 3
Snowdon (Welsh: Yr Wyddfa, pronounced [əɾ ˈwɪðva]) is the highest mountain in Wales, at an altitude of 1,085 metres (3,560 ft) above sea level, and the highest point in the British Isles outside Scotland. It is located in Snowdonia National Park (Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri) in Gwynedd, and has been described as probably the busiest mountain in Britain.] It is designated as a national nature reserve for its rare flora and fauna.
The rocks that form Snowdon were produced by volcanoes in the Ordovician period, and the massif has been extensively sculpted by glaciation, forming the pyramidal peak of Snowdon and the arêtes of Crib Goch and Y Lliwedd. The cliff faces on Snowdon, including Clogwyn Du'r Arddu, are significant for rock climbing, and the mountain was used by Edmund Hillary in training for the 1953 ascent of Mount Everest.
Snowdon boasts some of the best views in Britain, and the summit can be reached by a number of well-known paths, the most demanding of which is the Snowdon Horseshoe. The summit can also be reached on the Snowdon Mountain Railway, a rack and pinion railway opened in 1896 which carries passengers the 4.7 miles (7.6 km) from Llanberis to the summit station. The summit also houses a visitor centre called Hafod Eryri, built in 2006 to replace one built in the 1930s.
The name Snowdon is from the Old English for snow hill, while the Welsh name -- Yr Wyddfa -- means the tumulus, which may refer to the cairn thrown over the legendary giant Rhitta Gawr after his defeat by King Arthur. As well as other figures from Arthurian legend, the mountain is linked to a legendary afanc (water monster) and the Tylwyth Teg (fairies)
Height
A 1682 survey estimated that the summit of Snowdon was at a height of 3,720 feet (1,130 m); in 1773, Thomas Pennant quoted a later estimate of 3,568 ft (1,088 m) above sea level at Caernarfon.Recent surveys give the height of the summit as 1,085 m (3,560 ft), making Snowdon the highest mountain in Wales, and the highest point in the British Isles outside Scotland. Snowdon is one of three mountains climbed as part of the National Three Peaks Challenge
Visit North Wales (Llandudno) (Snowdonia National Park) (Location for films and television shows)
botttlemedia.co.uk Visit North Wales Snowdonia National Park Llanddudno
'North Wales' location for films and television shows.
'North Wales' is steeped in history and was for almost a millennium known as the Kingdom of Gwynedd. The mountainous stronghold of Snowdonia formed the nucleus of that realm and would become the last redoubt of independent Wales only overcome in 1283. To this day it remains a stronghold of the Welsh language and a centre for welsh national and cultural identity.
North Wales is home to UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Caernarfon, Beaumaris, Conwy and Harlech Castles.

South Wales Holiday Cottage - Swansea Valley | Ty Mawr Tlws
Superbly located South Wales holiday cottage in tranquil countryside, within the small, picturesque hamlet of Cilybebyll in the Swansea Valley. Only 15 mins from the M4, with a shop 3/4 of a mile away and country pubs serving food and more shops including a supermarket all within 3 miles. Pontardawe (3 miles) has a variety of food outlets and takeaways, banks, and an Arts Centre.
Ty Mawr Tlws holiday cottage, Swansea Valley is just 9 miles from the Liberty Stadium in Swansea itself (home to the Ospreys and Swansea City Football club) making a superb base for travelling supporters and for all other stadium events. The Wales Rally GB also regularly passes through this area. There are many all weather attractions in the area including the Swimming Centre in Swansea with its 50 meter pool, slides and water rides, Dynamic Rock indoor climbing centre, Mega Bowl, Margam Country Park and the Waterfront Museum.
There is plenty to do and see in this part of the world. This South Wales holiday cottage is only a short drive from the beautiful beaches of the Gower in Swansea and the breathtaking scenery of the Brecon Beacons National Park including Waterfall Country. The wonderful and varied landscape of the Gower Peninsula (Welsh: Penrhyn Gwyr) was the first place in Britain to be designated as an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' (AONB) by the Countryside Agency on behalf of the UK government, and is one of only five within Wales. 2006 saw the Gower Peninsula celebrating its 50th year as an AONB, an accolade that has truly stood the test of time.
