Beaminster shops Use or Lose! Small town SW England
Beaminster (Population 2,300) At least ten shops or businesses or pubs in Beaminster LOST in last 8 years. Petrol station, gone, Butcher - gone, White Hart Hotel gone, Paper shop gone, Laundrette, gone, Royal Oak, gone, Deli - gone, Betting shop, Dress Shop going, Bank, gone, Shoe Shop, gone, 2nd Petrol station gone, 2nd Deli gone.
In the year 2003 when my digital camera gave me good pictures practically free I decided to take a picture of every shop, cafe, place of interest in the small town of Beaminster in Dorset. I did this on one day and started with over 100 pictures. Around the same time the following year I went round and took second photographs of each of the shops etc. Subsequently I have done this every year. You may think that this is easy. Taking the pictures is the easy part of it. Once you have taken the pictures you have to put them 'up'. Year one - just put the pictures 'up'. Year two - you need to sort all the pictures. This becomes more difficult as the years go by. By the time you get to year seven then you are (a) forgetting some of the places you took phots of in year 1, (b) running out of time (c) finding extra things of interest (d) taking months putting all the new pictures into place on the 'up'. Anyway - here is volume 7. This time I have included more maps to show more or less where the places are. It is not quite right yet and probably requires more work. Still this extra work will come with version 8.
You may say that this video goes through very quickly. Just remember that I am trying to show hundreds of views in 7minutes.20seconds and that all of this took over two hours to upload.
If you want to see any particular picture then just stop the video and look at it. You could also maximise the thing to see better.

Fireplace halfway up Bank's wall IN BEAMINSTER DORSET uk
In this bank in Beaminster in Dorset I saw a fireplace halfway up a sidewall. It is above a cash ATM but this should not be a reason for being there.
Obviously there have been some architectural changes to the property.
Does anyone have any answers?

Max Gate & Hardy's Cottage Dorset
Max Gate was Thomas Hardy's home for over 40 years from 1885 to his death in 1928. he bought the 1.5 acre site, on the windswept ridge a mile from the centre of Dorchester, from the Duchy of Cornwall.
Hardy's Cottage was the birthplace of novelist and poet Thomas Hardy (1840-1928). He spent his childhood and early years here, returning from periods in London and elswhere to relax in the family home, only leaving it when he married his first wife in 1874. Max Gate and Hardy's Cottage are now owned by the National Trust.
VIDEO: Walk In Room, Walk In
Whilst researching Thomas Hardy's father's manuscripts in Dorset County Museum, Peter Kennedy found a nineteenth century reference to a mummers play in Symondsbury, Dorset. Enlisting the help of a local contact, the play was pieced together by people who could remember it being performed before it lapsed in the 1920s. It was revived and, in 1953, Peter Kennedy arrived with a crew to film what was probably the most complete version of this ritual existing in the British Isles.
This is a short clip from Kennedy's 1953 film Walk In St George.
The film is included in a Windrose DVD, along with interviews with Peter about the play, the making of the film and his thoughts about the significance of mumming. Also featured are two of the recent mummers Ken Bodycombe and David Warren, who tell how they became involved with the play and why it is still performed every year, and Bill Bartlett who played General Valentine in the 1953 film.

Auxiliary Units on 'The Secrets of Underground Britain' DVD
FIND OUT MORE
We have recently discovered a rare DVD made by Reader's Digest called 'The Secrets of Underground Britain - WARTIME SECRETS'.
Part of this DVD features information on the British Resistance and an interview with Auxilier Ivan Potter and Aux expert and author John Warwicker.
The DVD was produced in 2008 and as far as we can tell is no longer available to buy new. We found a copy on Amazon and it appears they sometimes come up on eBay. We do not believe it has been broadcast terrestrially.
