Kelly's Whitewater Park North Fork Payette River ID
Kelly's Whitewaer Park North Fork Payette River ID 6.20.17 2500cfs Dad and I just arrived in Idaho for our first trip ever the night before. I had already made arrangements to buy an older GT bike off Craigslist for $60 at Kelly's Whitewater Park. As soon as we got to the park we saw Nick Troutman throwing down on the top feature and EmJ hanging out with the kids. It was rad seeing the young rippers learning to surf river waves at the Park. The next morning, Dad departed on his Main Salmon trip and I left McCall in the rental RAV4 looking for first river run.

Crocodile Executed With Shotgun for Killing Fisherman in Borneo
KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak Forestry (SFC), in collaboration with the police, has captured and culled a crocodile suspected to be the one that attacked and killed a local fisherman, Idris Yakup, early this month.
SFC Swift Wildlife Action Team (SWAT) was deployed to the site immediately on being notified of the incident. The whole operation leading up to the capture of the suspected crocodile took a week and covered about 5 km, both up and down stream of the attack site.
“The hook and line method was used to lure the potential culprit, with a total of 10 hook lines laid along the river bank where the incident took place,” said a statement from the CEO’s Office of SFC.
“This riverbank was also found to be a crocodile nesting and breeding ground and during the operations, at least 10 adult crocodiles were sighted within our operation parameters. So river dwellers are advised to exercise extra care when using this river and crocodiles warning signage will also be installed along this riverbank”, it said.
The increase in population of both crocodiles and people has given rise to conflicts, with both competing for use of the same scarce resources.
To mitigate these conflicts, SFC is currently carrying out a state-wide Crocodiles Population Survey at all major river basins in the state to determine the crocodile population and distribution.
Certain areas which are used for water recreation and major waterfront are declared as Crocodile Free Zone (CFZ), where any crocodile found in these areas will be removed or trans-located to wildlife centres.
The estuarine crocodile population in Malaysia is listed in Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade on Endangered Species for Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and protected in Sarawak under the Wild Life Protection Ordinance, 1998.
There are 23 species of crocodilian in the world, with three recorded in Borneo, but only two are found in Sarawak; the estuarine crocodile found from the estuarine to more than a 100 km upriver and the more elusive and threatened false gharial, which lurks in the fresh water swam ps of the more low lying areas.
A maximum fine of RM10,000 and a year’s jail will be imposed if one is found guilty of hunting, killing, keeping, selling or eating a protected animal in Sarawak.
There are however, provisions in the Wild Life Protection Ordinance, 1998, that allows them to be killed in self defence whilst the Controller of Wild Life may issue permit or licence to cull them in certain situations.

TWRA Responds to Gold Mining Concerns in Tennessee Streams and Rivers
Friday, August 03, 2012 | 10:38am
NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has received a series of complaints recently from various recreational users concerning dredging activities on the Little River in Blount County.
Complaints are centered on practices that include the use of suction dredges to excavate large holes in the river bottom, and the discharge of muddy water downstream from dredging activities. Also, there has been the blanketing of shoals with sediment, petroleum products on the water, and the use of high pressure hoses to blast holes in the river bank.
Upon investigation, the activities generating the complaints are related to gold mining.
The Little River is extremely popular with visitors to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Townsend area. Trout fishing, smallmouth bass fishing, tubing, canoeing, and wading are among the activities attracting both in-state and out-of-state visitors and local residents to the area.
Tennessee has a long tradition of people “panning for gold” using sieves, homemade sluice boxes, buckets and hand tools such as shovels and trowels. “Panning for gold” is considered by many to be an enjoyable family activity. Small scale panning using traditional techniques and hand tools does not pose a threat to Tennessee’s extraordinary aquatic resources.
As with all stream activities, TWRA recommends the respect for private property, following public lands rules, not littering, and being safe on the water.
The use of commercial grade suction dredges, large scale sluice systems, diesel-powered pumps, and mechanical shovels, including backhoes and track hoes, and the use of high pressure hoses to blast away riparian habitat in a method called “high bank mining,” has become an aquatic habitat destruction issue in several states. The use of commercial scale mining equipment by individuals is apparently being promoted by both equipment manufacturers and cable television programs about gold mining.
The destruction of aquatic habitat and related water pollution by suction dredging, use of backhoes or track hoes, or other machinery for gold mining in Tennessee streams and rivers is an illegal activity. The TWRA is responding to the complaints by contacting suction dredgers and high bank miners, obtaining contact and identification information, and taking such actions as are appropriate and provided for by state law.
The TWRA is aware of gold mining in the Coker Creek watershed in Polk County. The Coker Creek watershed is an issue that is currently under consideration by state and federal resource agencies.
