Himalaya Trekking and specifically Manali Trekking is much sought after these days. Limetrails shares a beautiful video of their Beas Kund Trek experiences. Beas Kund in Himachal is one of the most picturesque and mesmerizing treks in the Dauladhar range around Manali or Kullu Manali.
The destination of the trek - Beas Kund, is a sacred lake from where the river Beas originates surrounded by magnificent mountainscapes. Legend has it that the great sage Vyas who penned the epic Mahabharata is said to have meditated here.
The trek offers panoramic views of the Pir Panjal and Dauladhar ranges in Himachal. Beas Kund is also the base camp for trekkers attempting summits like Hanuman Tibba, Friendship, Ladakhi, Shitidhar, Seven Sisters, Tentu Pass(4995m) and Bara Bangal Trek. A paradise to behold at every step indeed!

BEAS Kund TREK, Rohtang Pass, MANALI JUNE 2017 LATEST! AMAZING! | Himalayas | Himachal Pradesh
The Beas River is a river passing through the northern Indian states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. It is one of the five rivers, from which Punjab, meaning 'five rivers', gets its name. The total length of the river is 470 km (290 miles). The drainage basin of the river is 20,303 sq km large.
The Beas River flows from a height of 14,308 ft at Rohtang Pass, Himachal Pradesh, from where it flows through the Kullu valley towards south, adding from various mountains bound tributaries. The river crosses Mandi and turns west, flowing into the Kangra valley at Sandhol at 1,940 ft above sea level.
Why Beas Kund Is A Great Trek Right Out Of Manali
Find dates to Beas Kund here -
Here is the detailed documentation of the trek -
For a trek with such easy access, climbing right out of Manali, Beas Kund is a stunner!
Here’s what we saw on the trek.
Dense coniferous forests that climb right out of Solang Valley:
It’s hard to imagine that so close to a bustling city like Manali is such a dense and wild coniferous forest. Just around 15 km from Manali is Solang, where the trek starts and the magic begins right there.
Ancient deodar trees rise right out of Solang, within 5 minutes into the trail. They are such gigantic trees that you’ll not be able to see the tree tops even if you crane your neck as much as you can.
These are all ancient deodar trees with massive trunks. They stand like sentries protecting you as you go deeper into the trail.
Add to this the lovely Beas river tumbling about in tiny streams throughout the trail. On the very first day you come across a stream that you have to cross over a wooden bridge. It’s a delight even for the most experienced trekkers.
The grasslands of Dhundhi and Bakharthatch:
We have spoken quite a bit about the grasslands on the Bhrigu Lake trek, especially around Rola Kholi.
Considering Beas Kund is in the same region, these grasslands are similar to Rola Kholi and are perhaps better! They are much less crowded than the Bhrigu Lake trail and are more pristine.
Being able to camp in these grasslands with the tinkling sound of a rivulet right outside your tent is a rare opportunity that not many treks present.
Standing at the base of big mountains of the Pir Panjal Range:
Not many people know this but Solang Valley and the trail further is the base of many big mountains. Many mountaineers off on their technical climbs to Friendship Peak, Ladakhi Peak, Hanuman Tibba, start their ascent from here.
So on the Beas Kund trek, you’re standing at the base of these big mountains. On a clear day, the views are simply mind-blowing! You’ll be able to spot Mt Indrasen, Deo Tibba and more peaks from the Pir Panjal range.
There are very very few treks where you get up close with big mountains in such a short period of time. You almost always have to trek a few days into the mountains to get this close.
My Solo trek to Beas Kund, Manali (September 2017)[HD]

Manali to Rohtang Pass - Travel Vlog | Naggar Castle | Beas Kund
#Manali #Delhi #RohtangPass
This video is 2nd from my Manali series. I recently went to Rohtang Pass in Manali and that was one of the best trips of my life. I booked a cab on ‘KLOOK’ App (link below) and started from Manali early morning and on the way to Rohtang Pass, I also visited Naggar Castle, Rahala Falls, Marhi, Beas kund, and Rohtang Top.
Rohtang Pass - It is located at an elevation of 3,978 m (13,050 ft) above sea level on the eastern Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas, around 51 km from Manali. It holds a strategic importance for India as it connects Lahaul and Spiti Valleys to Kullu valley. The pass is closed for almost half of the year and is open only from May to November. I wish I had made to this place in the month of June though.
This pass lies on the watershed between the Chenab and Beas basins. The Beas River emerges from underground at the Beas Kund, which is few meters away from the BRO post visible in this picture and flows southward.
Also, one needs permit to visit/cross it. Permits are issued to the first 800 petrol vehicles and 400 diesel vehicles every day. This permit can only be applied for the next 2 days from the current date. No permits are issued on Tuesday as the day is marked for maintenance of Rohtang.
Everyone says that it's not safe to go to Rohtang in the monsoon time. I agree that you would miss witnessing the snowcapped mountains in monsoon but every touch of even tiny drops of rainfall on your face which monsoon brings along with it will feel amazing. This pass is no doubt a little scary. Even its name means 'Bhoti' in Ladakhi language means pile of corpses. This famous pass has got its infamous name due to numerous people dying in bad weather trying to cross the pass.
Bollywood Director Imtiyaz Ali has made Rohtang Pass a fixed location in almost everyone's bucket list so who wouldn't fall for it! But this beautiful place has a well-deserved reputation for being dangerous as well.
Naggar Castle – It is located at a distance of 21 kms from Manali and can be visited any time of the year. This 600 years old catle has been turned into a heritage hotel and is a must-visit place during your visit to Manali, Himachal Pradesh. Many famous Bollywood movies have been shot at this castle. In fact, the famous song “yeh ishq haaye, baithe bithaye” from the movie “Jab we Met” was also shot here. There is an entry ticket to this place which is just Rs 30/person.
Beas Kund – This kund is located near Marhi enroute to Rohtang Pass and an awesome place to click some extraordinary pictures ☺

Vyas kund Manali
Veas Kund the birthplace of the River Beas.

BEAS KUND TREK MANALI | BUDGET BACKPACKING TRIP
BEAS KUND TREK is one of the most scenic trek which starts from Manali. It's May 2016 , when we got frustrated from office work & decided for 2 day trip from Delhi. We want to go to mountains & himachal was perfect. After alot of research we finalize the Beas Kund Trek which starts from Solang Valley.
We starts from Delhi ISBT at 6 PM on Day 1 & reached Manali at 9 AM on next day. We got freshen up in public facility , had breakfast & packed some paranthas for backup. We asked many tour agencies & guide for Beas Kund Trek as all said that we need to do prior arrangements & have to take permissions as that area counts in Secure zone due to the under construction work of Rohtang tunnel. We decided to go by own. We met with a guy in bus while moving to Solang Valley who were working in German company there at Rohtang tunnel. He guided us well. Trek starts from Solang Valley & the first target was Dhundi Village 9 Kms. We walk for 4 Kms & luckily lifted by a truck who dropped us at Dhundi. This was the off season but luckily we got tents in Dhundi as well. On Day 3 ,we starts early as our returning bus from Manali to Delhi were scheduled at 4 PM from Manali. Next target was Bakartach Village 7 Kms. We starts at 7 AM , eat packed paranthas as breakfast , crossed 2 rivers & finally we reached Bakartach. We were not allowed to go to the point where river actually starts due to the glacier. We starts returning from Bakartach at 10:00 AM , Reached Dhundi at 12:00 PM. But this time we were not lucky, we walked 9 Kms from Dhundi to Solang. We experience light rain but saved by rain coat. Reached Solang Valley at 2:30 PM. Took Maggie's there & get to know that in between we missed our bus to Manali. Luckily we got lift from locals & reached Manali bus stand on right time. Thanks to Manoj & Rahul to be with me on this trip :) We completed this trip in 2700/- per person .

Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books. - John Lubbock
Beas Kund is one of those treks one can do in a longer weekend in Manali. This trek takes you along the banks of Beas River to its origin. Expect great views of Pir Pinjal ranges and the meadows of Dhundi & Bakarthach are spectacular in its beauty.
But dont take my word for it, see it for yourself!
We trekked from our base camp in Dhundi (2840m) to Bakartach (3270m) for 03 kms which took us around 02 hours. And from Bakartach to Beas Kund(3690m) for 03 kms which took another 03 hrs.
Beas Kund Base Camp Day 1
This trek is amazing, every tracker should do this once in a life time.
Amazing views, this video will continued with one more video. where you will see Beas Kund.
