Ringinglow Yorkshire Moors Nightmare Trek - Sheffield Walks. Things to do
The Peak district is just on the outskirts of Sheffield. Follow Ringinglow Road out of the city and within about 5 mins you can park and start treking onto the Yorkshire Moors. So we threw ourselves into the deep end, parked the car and started to walk onto the moors, soon leaving the path and going onto the moors proper. Though, maybe we shouldn't have left the path until we'd done the walk a few times, but then again that would take soem of the adventure out of going to an area for the first time when everything is unknown. Anyway were's our experience of what happens when one leaves the Ringinglow path and gets into proper moorland bogs! Also make sure you have enough time to make it back before nightfall else you could be working against the clock that could turn into a nightmare return trek!

Beauchief Abbey Lectures 2013 ON BEING A BROAD CHURCH (Lecture 2 of 5) by J W Rogerson
Lecture 2. Broad Church: Scripture
given by Revd. Professor J.W. Rogerson
at Beauchief Abbey, Sheffield, UK
27th February 2013
In 1862 the active and dedicated missionary Bishop John Colenso questioned publicly the historical integrity of some of the Old Testament narratives, and the controversy that followed marks a turning point in the history of modern biblical criticism in Britain. This lecture explores the positive and affirming contribution made by biblical critical scholarship to the revealing of a God of justice and love in the Old Testament and the Gospel accounts of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.

A ghost hunter claims to have captured the image of a ‘hooded monk’ among abbey ruins.
Paranormal investigator Kyle Thompson was stunned when he went through footage from his visit to Roche Abbey in Maltby, South Yorks, on August 19 and spotted a towering apparition.
Captured in an abandoned doorway, the 6ft tall cloaked and hooded figure can be seen holding a large cross – similar to ones used during mass celebrations.
Kyle said that during the trip with pal Jason Unsworth and cameraman James Smith he didn’t feel much paranormal activity, and it was only when he looked over the film that he spotted the outline.

Lecture 3. Broad Church: Reason
given by Revd. Professor J.W. Rogerson
at Beauchief Abbey, Sheffield, UK
6th March 2013
Revd. Professor Rogerson explores the often-made mistake of supposing that God is an object within our world of time and space whose existence there could be proved by logical or rational argument. The lecture goes on to outline the distinction made by the renowned poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge between Reason and Understanding. Coleridge's contribution to Anglican thinking helps us to have a practical belief in the God of the Bible, rather than beliefs or assertions about God.
