Beaufort's Castle is a Crusader fortress in Nabatiye. The Crusaders occupied the castle in the 12th century. The Beaufort provides one of the few cases where a Medieval castle proved of military value and utility also in modern warfare, as its late 20th Century history shows.

LEBANON: STUDENTS CLASH WITH ISRAELI TROOPS
Arabic/Nat
About two thousand college students have stormed through a barbed-wire barrier that Israeli troops had strung around a village to try to restore it to Lebanese control.
Israeli troops based near Arnoun fired in the air to try to disperse the demonstrators.
There were no immediate reports of casualties.
The students, reportedly both Muslim and Christian and drawn from universities around Lebanon, were angered by Israel's recent takeover of the village.
On February 17, Israel cordoned off the village with barbed wire, essentially annexing it
to the Jewish state's self-styled security zone in southern Lebanon.
Israel said the action was needed to protect Arnoun's residents from harassment by Lebanese guerrillas.
Lebanese officials noted that Israel had complained that rebels were using the village as a launching pad for attacks on its outpost at nearby Crusader-built Beaufort Castle.
Friday's protesters gathered at the village, chanting slogans like Death to Israel and We are all for our nation.
They pulled down the barbed-wire barrier surrounding the village, dragging it along the ground and stamping on it.
Israeli forces and allied militiamen fired in the air from a nearby post to try to disperse the students but did not confront them directly.
The students began leaving late in the afternoon, several hours after they entered the village.
Just 35 Lebanese remain in Arnoun, which once had a population of about two-thousand.
Most residents fled after repeated artillery attacks by Israeli gunners aimed at avenging guerrilla assaults on the Beaufort Castle outpost.
Israel set up its security zone in southern Lebanon in 1985 to try to protect its northern settlements from cross-border attacks.
The zone is patrolled by about one and a half thousand Israeli troops and some two and a half thousand allied Lebanese militiamen.
Lebanese guerrillas have been fighting to end the occupation.
