$50,000,000 @MarkALongstreet
As though rising among the St. Helena vineyards like a megalith, this unrivaled Napa Valley Modern Vineyard Estate on 20+/- acres is the rare confluence of world-class, modern architecture & design, the highest caliber construction and an enviable, ultra-private location within minutes from town.
Having completed five years of planning, design & build, notable Bay Area architect Lewis Butler’s vision of a modern vineyard masterpiece reveals now. Whitehall Estate is commandingly sited with views of the 14+/- sweeping, verdant acres of AVA Rutherford cabernet sauvignon grapes that surround.
At 6,700sf (10,365sf under roof), this modern Residence features elements rarely found in new homes: imbued infrastructure commensurate for a hotel or subdivision, and a steel-suspended, floating system for showcasing a wine collection. Large glass walls slide open to create seamless indoor/outdoor experiences with an “only-in-California,” Mid-Century ambiance of spaciousness and light.
At the centermost core of the Residence is an oversized 21st century Chef’s kitchen and a butler’s kitchen. The sun-drenched, outdoor pavilion features an open-air Kitchen and an infinity-edge swimming pool and spa.
The over-sized Master suite encompasses a spa-like bath, a voluminous walk-in closet and a private office or yoga/meditation room.
An adjacent Spa House of 776sf (1,400sf under roof) is flexible for use as an art space or yoga/fitness studio. Visiting guests, family or personal staff will luxuriate in the 2,250sf (3,000sf under roof), three-bedroom Guest House.
The Whitehall vineyard, in its third leaf, will soon enjoy its first harvest enabling the new owner to consider creating a private label Cabernet Sauvignon wine. The Whitehall winery license has been approved for a 10,000 gallon per year production facility.

Lot 601 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
An excellent example of alluvial benchland Cabernet, starting with dusty plum notes (“Rutherford Dust,” anyone?), pretty acacia flower, and cherry/blackcurrant/blackberry fruit. With just a little bit of air, it blooms a gorgeous perfume of sweet, spicy florals, rich plum, and electric cherry and blackcurrant notes all riding a gravelly spine. Absolutely gorgeous and notable for its bright, well defined fruit. On the palate it’s densely textured, yet juicy and energetic with chocolatey plum, cherry, blackcurrant and black pepper notes suavely fleshed out in a long, sweeping finish that foretells of much more to come. The oak integration here is perfect, and while the wine is beautiful now, it definitely benefits from air and will drink much better than the 2013s did this time last year. The 2014s are amply built with energetic fruit, freshness and approachability, with exciting down the road potential.
The first release of our exciting Fall Cabernet Countdown starts with Lot 601, sourced from the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. Oak Knoll matters most when you get into the northwest corner of the appellation, where you’ll same volcanically derived, stony, gravelly, alluvial fanned creek drainages that comprise the Oakville and Rutherford benches between Highway 29 and the Mayacamas Mountains. In fact, I would argue this area of Oak Knoll is really an extension of the Rutherford/Oakville/Yountville benches west of Highway 29, just a couple degree-days cooler. Lot 601 comes from an estate vineyard in the northwest corner of Oak Knoll (near the estate vineyards for Trefethen, Groth, Beckstoffer and Shiflett) and directly from the source winery’s $90+ Reserve program.

Staglin : California Wine with Tony
The Staglin Family Vineyard in the Rutherford District of Napa was established in 1985, when husband and wife, Garen and Shari Staglin, purchased 62 acres of land.
About 50 acres of this land was the vineyard where the legendary Andre Tchelistcheff produced his beloved BV Georges de La Tour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. The Staglins replanted grape vines in 1986 under Andre's guidance and the vineyard currently produces only organic wines. It ships approximately 7,000 cases per year, making Staglin the largest family-owned vineyard in Napa.
In July 2007, the vineyard switched to solar power generation and all production now uses solar energy.
Inglenook Estate Wines | Winery | Vineyard, Rutherford, South Australia Wine Guide - WBTL
inglenookThis historic estate and trademark has been re-established with wines made under the former Rubicon Estate banner now being made under the Inglenook banner by Francis Ford Coppola. This began as a small operation when film director Coppola first became involved in winegrowing, but there is now a sizeable output through the Francis Coppola Winery in the Sonoma Valley at Healdsburg. An extensive range is released there. Under the Sofia label you’ll find approachable sparklers, the Rosso & Bianco label is for everyday reds and whites, while the Diamond Series is a range of red and white varietals sourced throughout the state and generally taking the California appellation. These are straightfoward, reliable, fruit-driven wines and well priced. The Directors Cut series is a step up with a small range of wines from Sonoma County and there is an additional range under the Francis Coppola Reserve label. Two further reds are also made, a Bordeaux blend Archimedes and Eleanor which combines an interesting mix of Zinfandel, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah from Rutherford and Alexander Valley sources. It is though the top Inglenook labels that really impress. As well as the wines listed below there is a small production of RC Reserve Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc. Zinfandel Edizione Pennino is rich and powerful with dense, brambly fruit. At the pinnacle there are two flagship wines. Blancaneaux is a blend of Roussanne, Marsanne and Viognier. Rubicon is a very structured, firm and powerful meritage red aged for 26 months in French oak and requires at least 6–7 years’ patience. It is firmly established as one of Napa’s great reds. (DM)

Riverfront Park Sonoma
Riverfront Park Sonoma: Around here there are so many beautiful places to explore.
This video features photos taken at the Riverfront Regional Park near Windsor, California. This park borders the Russian River and is deep in the heart of the Sonoma valley. It's only about 10 minutes from my front door. The beauty of this place makes my soul ( yes I do have one) soar. The Redwood grove is a place where fairies live and I feel right at home.
The wall is silence, the grass is sleep,
Tall trees of peace their vigil keep,
And the Fairy of Dreams with moth-wings furled
Plays soft on her flute to the drowsy world.
~Ida Rentoul Outhwaite
The music is by the duo HeartStrings from Austin, Texas. I love their arrangements.
The photo essays are for my enjoyment and not meant to be commercial. I enjoy taking the photos and sharing them.
Enjoy!
Just sayin'
