Hollis, New Hampshire Community Tour
- Located just over the Massachusetts state line, Hollis, New Hampshire still maintains strong ties with its rural past. Originally settled as a part of Dunstable, Massachusetts, the town was incorporated by Colonial Governor Benning Wentworth in 1746.
Once known mainly for its corn, strawberries, orchards, dairy and poultry farms, this affluent bedroom community with a population of just under 8000 residents is now also home to a number of business executives and their families.
Despite the changes, Hollis has managed to preserve its small-town character. The Historic District in the center of town includes more than 100 historic homes and buildings, including the public library, town hall, the Congregational Church, and the Always Ready Engine House, which is now the home of the Historical Society. A number of other historic farmhouses and homes can be found throughout town.
Outside of the town center, sprawling orchards, rolling fields, and stately farms sit alongside large contemporary homes. More than 2,000 acres of town land remain in active agricultural use today. There are several farms and apple orchards located in Hollis, offering locally grown produce and the opportunity to pick your own strawberries and apples. The town also hosts several annual festivities enjoyed by residents and visitors alike, including the Strawberry Festival in June, Old Home Day in September, and the Apple Festival in October.
The Beaver Brook Association conservation area encompasses 2,100 acres and offers 35 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and other activities. Hollis also maintains an extensive network of town forests which preserves hundreds of acres in town. Silver Lake is another popular recreation site and is home to Silver Lake State Park.
Education is paramount in this community and the students benefit with a challenging and extensive curriculum in grades K-12. Students from Brookline, NH, as part of the Hollis-Brookline Cooperative School District, attend middle and high schools located in Hollis. The Hollis Montessori School educates children from age 3 through Middle School.

Welcome to another Outside Trips hiking video. In this trip, the family and I explore Beaver Brook located in Hollis New Hampshire.
Instead of having me capturing the video, I handed off the controls to my daughter.
I will admit that I thought she captured more video than what I actually ended up with. Either way, what follows is what interests my daughter on this trip.
As usual, you can find a full write-up by clicking on the link below. Also, feel free to follow me on Twitter to get all the latest updates and to see where my next Outside Trip is.
Descent down Beaver Brook Trail, NH
The morning after we climbed Mt. Moosilauke, we had to make our way down via the Beaver Brook Trail. It was rocky, slick, and pretty intense. Spoon turns and tells me to be careful not to die and then he turns around and almost falls himself.

Just roll with it - kayaking Rocky Pond, Hollis NH
Decided to do another after work paddle and found this sweet little hidden pond. Launch site was nice once we managed to get to it and it was a great wind down after a day at the office. Sandy is still working on his C to C roll and while you can see him getting tired as the video continues, he still finishes on top. Lookin' good!

Journey up Mt Moosilauke via Beaver Brook trail.
Hiking the AT (Beaver Brook Trail) to Mt Moosilauke New Hampshire. On the sumit I was told other trails to Mt Moosilauke were easier. I admit breathing pretty good on the Cascades portion of the trail, but the waterfalls were well worth it! Hike was done on 11/05/2011.
This video is a slide show from the hike with video mixed in. The background sounds are from the hike as well. All photographs and video taken by Bruce E. Bierce Jr.

A Sunday morning float - kayaking Flints Pond in Hollis, NH
Sunday morning and I hadn't finished coffee yet. Decided to take it with me and go look at a local pond that somehow I have not paddled in all the years I have been here. Too small potatoes? Never! Every little pocket of water you can paddle is home to some wildlife. And I was in the mood to go meet 'em. So out to Hollis I went, where I met Beth, the president of the Flint Pond Improvement Association, and Sarah, a volunteer water monitor (and a third shy gal who didn't intro herself.. hi to ya if you're reading this!) as they slowly patrolled the pond to mark suspected milfoil spots.
I had a nice lazy cruise around the pond. Sipped coffee, witnessed a turtle stampede and got a short pedi courtesy of some friendly fish at the launch ramp. Nice place to unwind a little!

UFO hollis nh 12/30/14
Early morning several bright colored orbs were seen over a residential neighborhood near the border of Hollis and Nashua, NH. After seeing them for about an hour the one that I believe is the finder came very low and hovered for a while over a general store. I pointed it out to several people who were amazed as they watched it hover over the store. It began to ascend and move north and I began filming I let the camera roll for about 25 minutes.
