Bannack is a ghost town in Beaverhead County, Montana, United States, located on Grasshopper Creek, approximately 11 miles upstream from where Grasshopper Creek joins with the Beaverhead River south of Dillon.

The rich history of the abandoned ghost town of Bannack, Montana starts with a gold strike and for many ended in the graveyard on the hills above the valley.
Gold fever often leads to violence and the trails between the gold-rich veins exposed by the Grasshopper Creek and Beaverhead River just south of Dillon, Montana and the areas other gold discoveries in Virginia City were marked with highway robbery and murder.

Global Youth Service Day in Dillon Montana
The Girl Scouts in Dillon, Montana participated in Global Youth Service Day on April 16, 2011. They volunteered at the Children's Park and Robert Monaco Memorial Playhouse where they painted a picket fence and prepared two trees for planting. This project was a recipient of a GYSD Mini-Grant from the Governor's Office of Community Service and Youth Service America.
Ranches For Sale Dillon Montana Incredible Fly Fishing, Recreation and Big Game
- Ranches for sale in Dillon, Montana brings to our eye the Depot Ranch located on 775 Medicine Lodge Road just west of the Clark Canyon reservoir. Medicine Lodge creek runs right through the property and hosts nice poulations of rainbow, brown and brook trout.
The ranch curently runs between 250 and 300 head of cattle but it could easily be converted into a recreational ranch for hunting and fishing should a buyer so desire.
The Depot Ranch in Dillon, Montana is part of the Clark Canyon watershed. The authentic western town of Dillon, Montana is the county seat for Beaverhead County and it hosts a variety of businesses including a Patagonia Outlet, the University of Montana Western and the headquarters for Great Harvest bakeries.
The fishing locally is the best in Montana with the Beaverhead and nearby Big Hole River being the most famous streams, but there are numerous feeder creeks like Horse Prarie Creek, Bloody Dick Creek and Medicine Lodge Creek that offer lots of great trout fishing. Nearby Clark Canyon Reservoir has large fish and is popular for ice fishing in the winter months it also offers lots of waterfowl.
The properties 160 acre main ranch offers newly built corrals and fencing. Medicine Lodge creek runs right through the property next to the corrals and house making it great for stock water or a little fishing. Of course the elk hunting in this area is top notch.
Medicine Lodge creek has populations of rainbow, brown and brook trout and serves as an attractant for all sorts of wildlife. The main ranch has extra tall jack rail fencing.
The main ranch is 160 acres of mainly sub-irrigated pasture and corrals, there are also 500 deeded acres of dry land ground just above Clark Canyon reservoir with another 15,000 acres of BLM lease ground just north of this. There are about 2,200 acres of lease ground on the south side of the Clark Canyon reservoir also.
There is also a second hilltop house that provides 360 degree mountain views that could be renovated or re-built.
The elk, moose, mule deer and wildlife are prolific in this area, as is the fishing. My 40 years in Montana has taught me that this is a most revered area when it comes to the sport of fly fishing and many of my most memorable days were all experienced in this area.
While this could remain a working cattle ranch it is likely only a matter of time before its primary use gets converted to recreation.
The ranch is about 90 minutes to Butte, Montana and about 2 hours and change to Bozeman, which has the State's busiest airport with the most direct flights. It's about 90 minutes to Yellowstone National Park and just 4 1/2 hours to Salt Lake City in Utah.
