Beban Park train show, April 22nd, 2018, Nanaimo, B.C., Canada
Just recently I attended a train show at a local recreational centre in town just in the south end Nanaimo, B.C. I've always had a love for trains especially H.O. Scale models. When I was young my dad brought home an H.O. Scale railway set and we set it up in the garage. And til this day 10 years later it is still there.

Sandstone - 1200 Frew Road, 1560 & 1650 Island Highway, Nanaimo, BC
The Sandstone development is a master planned 726-acre site at the southern boundary of the City of Nanaimo, surrounding the strategic junctions of Highway 1, the Cedar Road interchange, and the Duke Point Highway. This location will become an urban node for the City of Nanaimo creating residential, industrial, and commercial core areas to serve the southern environs of the municipality and greater market area as well as to function as a self-supporting community.
The project envisions a comprehensive development offering a broad range of land uses including varied residential neighbourhoods, retail commercial development, industrial enclaves, with 50% of the land dedicated to open space and parks.

Nanaimo Prepares for The Big One
NANAIMO -- Another earthquake rattled the Vancouver Island coastline over the Thanksgiving weekend. The magnitude 4.2 quake was recorded just off Port Hardy late Sunday evening and has raised the usual questions about just how ready we are when the big one hits.
On October 20th, a province-wide earthquake drill, called the shake-out, will take place to give people across British Columbia a refresher about the safety procedures and steps in wake of an earthquake. Schools and businesses will take part in the 2nd annual drill, which is the largest of its kind in Canada.
In Nanaimo, the city is using this drill into an opportunity to prepare everyone living around the city about how to mobilize in wake of a natural disaster.
The city has set up four reception centres across the city where people can come in the event of a disaster to receive food, water and shelter. The centres are:
Nanaimo Aquatic Centre - 741 Third Street, Nanaimo, BC
Bowen Park - 500 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, BC
Beban Park - 2300 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, BC
Oliver Woods Community Centre - 6000 Oliver Road, Nanaimo, BC
