Beckenham is a post town and district of London in the London Borough of Bromley, England. Beckenham borders Beckenham Place Park and Bellingham in the London Borough of Lewisham and is centred 8.4 miles south east of Charing Cross. ntil the coming of the railway in 1857, Beckenham was a small village as with the rest of the borough in Kent with almost most of its land rural and private parkland
Beckenham has areas of commerce and industry, principally the curved network of streets featuring its high street and Langley Park laboratories and is served in transport by three main railway stations — nine within the post town — plus towards its western periphery two Croydon Tramlink stations. In common with much of this largest borough of London, it has a large minority of land which is a mixture of sports grounds, fishing ponds and parks.
The original village of Beckenham was a cluster of development in its own fields at what is now the north. Around it were the great manorial estates: Beckenham, Kelsey and Langley Halls and Parks. The River Ravensbourne flows northwards at the eastern side of the town, towards its confluence with the River Thames. A small stream, the River Beck, passes through the town before joining the Ravensbourne further north.
Despite its leafy image, its close proximity to Central London and nine railway stations within the post town (Beckenham Junction, Clock House, Birkbeck, New Beckenham, Ravensbourne, Kent House, Elmers End, Eden Park and Beckenham Hill), make Beckenham a good business location. The town's busy high street contains many restaurants and upmarket chains, as well as family-run independents, and the area has a good selection of well performing schools. Beckenham is the headquarters to Capita Registrars Limited who provide share registration services for more than half of the UK’s quoted companies
One of the interesting landmarks in Beckenham is the Chinese Garage, now a listed building. It is built in an unusual Japanese pagoda style and deals in Peugeot and Kia cars. There is also St George's Church, dating back to 1100 but mostly rebuilt at the end of the 19th century. The lych gate dates from the 13th century, and is one of the oldest in England; the almshouses date back to 1694. There are two old pubs, Ye Olde George Inn (1662), and the Three Tuns (now a branch of Zizzi restaurants). Kelsey Park is another landmark. It was part of the Kelsey Estate, but the mansion no longer remains. The only surviving buildings are the two Grade II listed lodge cottages at the entrance, which are over 200 years old.
Beckenham is served by nine rail stations - Beckenham Junction, Clock House, Birkbeck, New Beckenham, Ravensbourne, Kent House, Elmers End, Eden Park and Beckenham Hill. Beckenham is served by several Transport for London buses that link the town with other areas including Bromley, Catford, Chislehurst, Croydon, Crystal Palace, Eltham, Lewisham, Sydenham, West Wickham and Woolwich.

BECKENHAM PLACE PARK JULY 2019
???????????? Today at Beckenham Place Park, Beckenham Hill Road, Beckenham BR3 1SZ. ???? As well as the new lake, the renovation includes (will include) a new wet woodland, play areas, BMX track, skate park, public toilets, as well as a cafe, visitor hub and education centre in the park’s Georgian mansion with £4.8 million of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Today it was buzzing with activity, the kids were loving it. It has a great vintage feel. There was even an old school roundabout that about 7 kids piled onto and were wizzing round on at breakneck speed! Don’t even pretend you didn’t do this back in the day????. Lovely to see ducks using the other end of the lake too. Very good job done on the whole park so far, and they are still working on it. PICNIC AT BECKENHAM PLACE PARK..
Beckenham Place Park downgraded
The former mayor of Lewisham has closed the last public golf course in London at Beckenham Place Park along with the tennis, cricket and football pitches. John Hamilton, candidate for mayor of Lewisham, reminisces about the fight to save these facilities and the victorious occupation to keep the cafe open. He asks: what is really behind the mass tree felling and lottery funding bid?

Beckenham Place Park
A day out in Beckenham Place Park. It is the first garden and flower show including competition but unfortunately it wasn't advertised very well so hardly any entries have been submitted. Still it as a lovely day out. Later on more people have arrived and hopefully next year it will become a success.

Bromley is a district of south east London, England, located 9.3 miles south east of Charing Cross. Bromley is the administrative headquarters of the London Borough of Bromley, and identified as a major metropolitan centre in the London Plan.
Bromley was historically a market town chartered since 1158 and an ancient parish in the county of Kent. Its location on a coaching route and the opening of a railway station in 1858 were key to its development, and the economic history of Bromley is underpinned by a shift from an agrarian village to commerce and retail. As part of the suburban growth of London in the 20th century, Bromley significantly increased in population and was incorporated as a municipal borough in 1903.
Bromley has developed into one of a handful of regionally significant commercial and retail districts outside central London and has formed part of Greater London since 1965. Most of Bromley including the town centre falls under the BR1 postcode district, whereas areas to the west towards Shortlands are part of BR2 instead.
Bromley is located 9.3 miles (15 km) south east of Charing Cross and is one of the major metropolitan centres identified in the London Plan. Bromley is a post town in the BR postcode area, consisting of BR1 and part of the BR2 postcode district. BR1 covers Bromley, Bickley, Sundridge Park and part of Downham; and the BR2 portion covers Hayes, Shortlands, Bickley and Bromley Common.

Beckenham place mansion and gardens - Mavic pro 2 drone footage
Just up the road from us we've visited Beckenham place mansion and gardens a couple of times. Thought I capture some Mavic pro 2 drone footage. The building has a lot going on and the gardens are very relaxing and very vast. There is even a lake to swim in and a children's play area. Well worth a visit if you are in the area:
For the first time in decades, this beautiful Georgian mansion is open daily to the public as an arts, cultural and community centre.
Brought to you by the folks behind the Bussey Building in Peckham, the Mansion now houses artist studios, a yoga/pilates/wellbeing centre ; arts and crafts classes, a record shop and a café. In addition, there will be regular special events and activities like food and vintage markets, concerts, pop-up cinemas and more!
