Meg Barclay received her BA in Art History and Archaeology from Bowdoin College and her Masters in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania.
She is a former board member of both Maine Preservation and Coastal Mountains Land Trust, owners of the Beech Hill Preserve, and the current chair of the Camden Historic Resources Committee.
She is a partner in Scholz & Barclay Architecture, which worked with the Land Trust to restore Beech Nut, and has taught architecture at the University of Maine in Augusta.

Happened to spot a singing hermit thrush this foggy, misty afternoon at Beech Hill Preserve in Rockport, Maine. This is what magic sounds like.
Hiking Camden Hills State Park, Maine
I decided to take a couple of days (May 1st & 2nd, 2018) and hike around Camden Hills State Park in Maine.
I parked at the main entrance on Route 1 and hiked to the summit of Mount Battie. After spending a few moments there I hiked along the Ridge Trail where I stopped at Ocean Lookout for a while. This is a great spot to view Penobscot Bay and also look down onto Mount Battie and the town of Camden. From there I went to Mount Megunticook (the highest coastal mountain on the US Atlantic Coast.....not counting island mountains). Then I hiked for a while longer and summited Bald Rock Mountain - where I set up camp and spent the night overlooking the ocean. Since it was a calm night I set up camp right on the ledges - facing east for the sunrise in the morning!

Ovenbird on a perch, chipping
This is the season when Ovenbirds stake out territories in our mixed woodlands—chasing each other around beneath the trees. This bird is taking a breather after having just been zipping around chattering at another of its species. Ovenbirds nest on the forest floor in what look a little like dutch ovens made of leaves. In the background, listen for Hermit Thrush, Black-capped Chickadee, Black-throated Green Warbler—and the sharp chip notes and loud songs (“Teacher, teacher, TEACHER”) of other Ovenbirds.
