Beehive Fireworks in Yanshui - Taiwan
SHOT BY 1.4 MILLION FIREWORKS!! Yanshui Taiwan 2017 鹽水蜂炮
Yanshui Beehive Festival is a annual firework bonanza taking place in a small town of central Taiwan. The interesting part of this particular firework festival is that the fireworks are not shot into the air but rather into the crowd. Willing participants believe the more stings from the bees the more luck it will bring you.
This is a must-do bucket list experience I would recommend to anyone who is brave enough!

In Taiwan pole dancers can often been seen during religious processions, festivals, and even funerals or memorials!
This year during a prominent city councillor's memorial in Chiayi in Southern Taiwan, 50 dancers were employed for the procession.See BBC Story:
Many in Taiwanese culture believe spirits should be entertained, even employing wailers, or young women to cry at funerals.
At religious processions pole dancers are of course there to draw crowds. Their purpose like other fixtures of Chinese Folk Religion is also to pay respect to the Gods and are included with lion and dragon dances and other figures that pay tribute in front of the temples.
This video in 360 was captured at this year's, (2017), Yanshui Beehive Fireworks Festival in Tainan County, Southern Taiwan. This is one of the world's most dangerous festivals where hundreds of thousands of firecrackers and bottle rockets are exploded in the streets of Yanshui. More on the festival here:

One of The Most Dangerous Festivals - Taiwan's Bee Fireworks Festival
We spend this year's Yuan Xiao Festival in the South of Taiwan at the Yanshui Bee Fireworks Festival: A celebration in which fireworks are constantly being fired from every street corner for two nights straight.
But the real fun is when they roll out walls of 100s of thousands of bottle rockets, which they then proceed to fire directly into the crowd. It has been named one of the most dangerous festivals in the world, and it was SO much fun!

Yanshui Firework Festival, Taiwan
This festival is held annually in Yanshui every February and known as one of the most dangerous festivals on Earth.
A Notoriously Dangerous Fireworks Festival
One of the most dangerous fireworks festivals in the world is held once a year at the end of the Chinese New Year in Tainan City, Taiwan. Here, thousands of bottle rockets are ignited from a beehive to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck to those who are in the path of the rockets.
Although seemingly dangerous, the festival also includes activities for people who wish to play it safe. There are plenty of festivities for children and adults alike. Easily one of the most unique fireworks festivals on Earth.
World's Most Dangerous Festivals-Yanshui Beehive Fireworks Festival 2017-Taiwan
The Yanshui Beehive Fireworks Festival is held every year in Yanshui District in Southern Taiwan. Locally known as the Feng Pao it is considered one of the most dangerous festivals in the world as well as being the third largest folk celebration. Why do they blow off millions of bottle rockets and firecrackers you ask? It all started with a cholera epidemic in the late 19th century. Due to the underdeveloped state of medicine victims multiplied daily and the people of the district lived in fear. On the day of the Lantern Festival, 15 days after the 1st day of the Lunar New Year, town folk paraded Gaun Di, the God of War on a palanquin around the streets. Firecrackers were lit until dawn. In one night the people of Yanshui rid their district of the plague and the festival has been carried on ever since. This year along with taking in one of the most notorious events of the festival, the actual beehives that are metal racks lined with bottle rockets that are exploded in the streets of Yanshui I also attended the daytime events on the last day. There were processions of Gods paraded on palanquins, pole dancers on jeeps dancing for the crowds, sometimes also seen at Taiwanese funerals, and plenty of deafening firecrackers and fireworks exploding on the streets. 鹽水蜂炮 Beehive Firework Festival day 1 - 第1天 - Yan Shui Feng Pao
The most exciting and dangerous firework festival in the world.
Yan Shui Feng Pao 鹽水蜂炮 (firework festival) takes place on the 15th day of the Chinese 1st month and coincides with Lantern Festival. The tradition began in the 1870's when there was a cholera outbreak in the town. Many people had died and many had prayed to the temple deities for a cure. One night in a dream, the deity Guan Gong visited a man in a dream and told him to parade his statue around the town and throw firecrackers at the statue and he would cure the town of the disease. This may relate to an ancient folk belief that plagues were caused by malevolent spirits, and that these spirits were killed by thunder magic and firecrackers mimic the sound of thunder.
The statue was paraded around the town, and soon after the disease was no longer found in the area. To prevent its return, every year the tradition has been repeated.

A mix of clips from my visit to the Beehive Firecrackers in Yanshui, Taiwan. This is a crazy tradition that happens every year at the end of the Lunar New Year. Getting hit by the firecrackers brings you good luck. Note, I was wearing proper protection from head to foot. Sorry for the shoddy camerawork
Street fireworks in Kaohsiung, Taiwan
This gives you an idea how crazy it can get with the street fireworks in Taiwan! This is only the middle of this event... the whole thing was about 15 minutes of non-stop cracking and popping. At 2:35 you can see how the shockwaves from the sound rattle everything nearby. At 4:20 you can see how much stuff falls from the sky from the spent fireworks.
