India Erotic Sculptures of Khajuraho Temple | Khajuraho - The Temple of Love - Ancient India
An overall examination of site suggests that the Hindu symbolic mandala design principle of square and circles is present each temple plan and design.[30] Further, the territory is laid out in three triangles that converge to form a pentagon. Scholars suggest that this reflects the Hindu symbolism for three realms or trilokinatha, and five cosmic substances or panchbhuteshvara.[25] The temple site highlights Shiva, the one who destroys and recycles life, thereby controlling the cosmic dance of time, evolution and dissolution.[26]
The temples have a rich display of intricately carved statues. While they are famous for their erotic sculpture, sexual themes cover less than 10% of the temple sculpture.[31] Further, most erotic scene panels are neither prominent nor emphasized at the expense of the rest, rather they are in proportional balance with the non-sexual images.[32] The viewer has to look closely to find them, or be directed by a guide.[33] The arts cover numerous aspects of human life and values considered important in Hindu pantheon. Further, the images are arranged in a configuration to express central ideas of Hinduism. All three ideas from Agamas are richly expressed in Khajuraho temples - Avyakta, Vyaktavyakta and Vyakta.[
The Beejamandal temple is under excavation. It has been identified with the Vaidyanath temple mentioned in the Grahpati Kokalla inscription.[citation needed]
Of all temples, the Matangeshvara temple remains an active site of worship.[26] It is another square grid temple, with a large 2.5 metres (8.2 ft) high and 1.1 metres (3.6 ft) diameter lingam, placed on a 7.6 metres (25 ft) diameter platform.
The most visited temple, Kandariya Mahadev, has an area of about 6,500 square feet and a shikhara (spire) that rises 116 feet

Brahma, Beejamandal & Ghantai Temples...Khajuraho series (6)
Brahma Temple is located on the banks of Khajur Sagar or Ninora Tal. It is constructed in 900 AD. Today this shrine is called Brahma, but it has a four-faced Shiva linga in the Sanctum and the lintel above the sanctum door clearly indicates that it once was dedicated to Vishnu. The projection on the east contains the entrance with Ganga and Yamuna at the base. Beejamandal Temple near the Chaturbhuj temple is in ruins now. But from the remaining structure it can be seen that the temple had highly decorated exterior walls. Beejamandal is located in Jatkara village, Khajuraho, that has not yet been fully excaved and explored. There is a tradition of lighting a holy lamp in this temple by villagers staying near the temple every night inside the temple complex. The Ghantai temple is Constructed between 950 and 1050 AD.
The name of the Ghantai temple is derived from the beautifully carved figures of chain-and-bell, also known as ghanta, on its tall and huge pillars. The walls of the temple are beautifully decorated with display of 16 dreams of Mahavira's mother. The temple also has a stone carved image of Mahavira's mother, which is represented as a multi-armed Jain goddess hovering on a winged Garuda.

Javari Temple...Khajuraho series (5)
Javari temple is located in the eastern area of Khajuraho, originally built by the Chandella rulers. This temple dedicated to Vishnu, is situated about 200 meters to the south of the Vamana temple. It is assumed that the temple dates back to a period between AD 1075 and 1100. The name Javari is derived from the one time owner of the land. The sanctum contains a four armed broken and headless idol of Lord Vishnu. It is a Nirandhara Prasada type of temple, meaning there is no pradakshina around the inner sanctum. The temple is mainly popular for its highly crafted entrance with beautiful Makara Arch. The entrance gate of sanctum has sculptures depicting nava-graha on the top with Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva sculptures. It has three bands of carved sculptures on the outer wall including voluptuous nymphs and amorous couples. The temple has a close resemblance with Chaturbhuja Temple.

EROTIC SCULPTURES OF KHAJURAHO INDIA
This pretty little village in the state of Madhya Pradesh has twenty temples dating to the tenth to eleventh centuries. The site, overgrown by jungle, was first describd in 1838 by a young British officer, Captain T. S. Burt of the Royal Bengal Engineers. From that time on Khajuraho has attracted enormous attention. As Captain Burt records in 1839: I found in the ruins of Khajuraho seven large ... Hindoo temples, most beautifully and exquisitely carved as to workmanship, but the sculptor had at times allowed his subject to grow rather warmer than there was any absolute necessity for his doing; indeed, some of the sculptures here were extremely indecent and offensive...
Duladeo Temple...Khajuraho Series (2)
The Duladeo Temple (दुलादेव मंदिर) in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh is dedicated to the god Shiva in the form of a linga. 'Dulodeo' means “Holy Bridegroom”. The temple is also known as Kunwar Math. The temple faces east and is dated to 1000–1150 AD. It is the last of the temples built during the Chandela period. The temple is located on the bank of the Khudar River in the southern group of temples in Khajuraho. A figure of Shiva is carved on the lintel at the entrance to the sanctum (garbhagriha). The central icon of the linga in the sanctum is not the original but a duplicate, as the original is untraced. A unique feature of the depictions on the linga is that it has 999 more lingas carved all around its surface. Its religious significance is that going round the linga would amount to taking of circumambulation a 1,000 times around it. The exterior walls of the temples have repeated the images of the Bridegroom and his consort. The western wall, which is the part of the temple that is better preserved. The sculptures of the duladeo temple are refined, slim and well -proportioned. The figures, both men and women wear jewellery here than in any other temples in Khajuraho and there are also few figurines in the erotic poses of couples engrossed in love.
