The Beer can House, Houston, Tx
Took these girls to see the Beer can House off of Memorial Dr. in Houston. They wanted so bad to go inside. Maybe next time Girls.
The Beer Can House - Houston TX - United States of America
First when I heard about the house, I wondered if it is beer can production place or something like that. But as my curiosity grew and looked it up in the internet, I saw a house covered with parts of beer cans. Hmm, that’s strange, it might worth a visit I thought. I marked it into my list of places to visit in Houston. Then there came the much anticipated trip to Houston, including the beer can house. Man, it was awesome! Parts of thousands of beer cans and beer bottles all over the place. Some hanging others affixed. I recommend spending a few moments at the house if you are heading to Houston TX. Please share your comments and thoughts once you visit the place. Thank you for watching our video.

Hi, and welcome to Brewtopia.
And today we're in Houston, Texas. And you may be wondering, what does Houston have to do with world class beer?
Well, it's a unique place. It's the fourth largest city in the United States, it's got a lot of oil, a lot of telecommunications, and a lot of heat and humidity. And there's nothing better on a hot day than a good cold brew.
So I'm going to take you on a Houston beer run where we're going to go to the world famous St. Arnold Brewery, the West Alabama Ice House, and the eclectic beer can house. Did you say 'beer can house?' I sure did. Let's go check it out.

The house that booze built

Houston, US - July 12, 2013
1. Various exteriors of beer can house.
2. Close of beer can garlands.
3. SOUNDBITE: (English) Ruben Guevara, restoration director
This was an ordinary house. There was a little bungalow here in the West University area right until the late 60s, early 70s, that's when it all began right here in this area.
4. Wide of canopied area in backyard with beer bottle and beer can decorative back wall.
5. SOUNDBITE: (English) Ruben Guevara, restoration director
When he bought this little shade for himself to enjoy his beers in the afternoons after he got off of work, he started laying down these blocks of cement and from here it all took off.
6. Mid of concrete with marbles and steel plate with 1968 embedded in it.
7. Wide of backyard with concrete and steel plate evident.
8. Mid of backyard with Mary Milkovisch's lemon tree
9. Mid of concrete sign with a map of Texas and Beer Can House on it.
10. Close of beer can wall
11. Mid of visitors
UPSOUND: (English) Jeanne Luker, visitor from Lake Jackson, Texas
It shows that you can do anything with cans and trash.
12. SOUNDBITE (English) Jeanne Luker, visitor from Lake Jackson, Texas, vox pop
Very unique. Kind of like the Art Car Parade it could be the House Art Parade. It was really unique. Real cool.
13. Close of garlands.
14. Close of garlands hanging from eaves of roof
15. Mid of front of house
16. Close of inside view of beer can garlands hanging from front porch
17. Close of garlands
18. SOUNDBITE: (English) Ruben Guevara, restoration director
After that he began on the house. The house took about 17 months to complete, he started at the bottom, worked his way up. He used cans, bottles, marbles, redwood, he just used all sorts of materials, materials that he had been collecting for many, many years. He drank a lot of beer, him and Mary and he collected all the beer cans that he would drink. He stored them because he knew that he would use them, he didn't know for what.
19. Mid of porch of house with beer can garlands hanging over it.
20. Mid of side of house with garlands hanging down.
21. SOUNDBITE: (English) Ruben Guevara, restoration director
The funny thing is it wasn't to attract attention. He said himself, if there was a house similar to this a block away he wouldn't take the time to go look at it. He had no idea what was the fascination about what he was doing. He didn't understand why people would come look at this house.
22. Close of garlands on side of house with beer can labels visible behind.
LEADIN:
A house decorated in over 50,000 beer cans has become a public monument in Houston, Texas.
The unique former home is now open for tours after restoration by a local arts charity.
STORYLINE:
This is the house that booze built.
Sparking under the summer sun is the former home of John Milkovisch.
Growing up during the Great Depression he was taught never to throw anything away - not even the empty cans of beer he enjoyed each afternoon with his wife.
So in the early 1970s, when putting aluminium siding on a house was fashionable, he lugged down the cans he had stored in his attic for years, painstakingly opened and flattened each one and began to cover his house with them.
The funny thing is that it wasn't ... to attract attention, says Ruben Guevara, who oversees restoration of the house in Houston's Memorial Park area. He said himself that if there was a house similar to this a block away, he wouldn't take the time to go look at it. He had no idea what was the fascination about what he was doing.
By the time Mary Milkovisch died in the mid-1990s, the house had become a well-known landmark in the neighbourhood.
