2. Which Spanish Beer Tastes Best? ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
There is a lot of debate in Spain about which Spanish beer is the best. And this is intensified by the fact that each region has its own beer. So of course, the Spaniards from that region tend to think their beer is the top lager!
But Yoly (supertaster!) and I decided it was time to decide once and for which of the Spanish beers tastes the best. We set up this totally blind tasting. And in the tasting we tasted Mahou (Madrid), Cruzcampo (Seville), Alhambra (Granada), San Miguel (Barcelona), Moritz (Barcelona), Estrella Damm (Barcelona), Estrella Galicia (Barcelona), and Amstel (all over Spain). And to make it a little more interesting, we threw in a couple of wild cards… an alcohol-free beer (Mahou Sin) and a supermarket brand beer (Aliada).
Which was the winner?
You’ll have to watch to find out!!

???? ABOUT THIS VID! ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
If you've ever drunk Spanish wine, I'm sure you've heard of Rioja wine. It's without a doubt Spain's most famous wine region. In this video I drink three wines (all made with tempranillo) from iconic wineries to help you understand the region a little better. I discuss the flavours and aromas of each wine (or vino, as we call it here in Spain), and also talk about the difference between modern and traditional Rioja.
And who am I? I'm James Blick, co-founder of Devour Tours and a certified sommelier, trained by WSET, one of the most famous wine training centres in the world!
Also, I also answer some really common questions about Rioja, namely:
- Are all Rioja wines Tempranillo?
- Is Rioja a red wine or a wine wine?
- What is the grape in Rioja wines? (Hint: it's tempranillo!)

2. More About This Video ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter can be really confusing! So many winding streets, so many tourists, so much to see! But it’s actually quite a small area, and it’s one of the most magical collections of 13-15th century buildings in the world.
And did you know that Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter is actually built on the remains of a 2,000 year old Roman settlement?
Also, not everything is as it seems in the Gothic Quarter. There are lots of secrets in this part of the city, but you have to know where to find them. I will show you!
To sum it up, the Gothic Quarter is a place you really need to visit. It’s also called the Barrio Gótico in Spanish and the Barri Gòtic in Catalan.
In this video I take you to XXXX of the must-see sites in the Gothic Quarter. These are places we visit and you’ll learn about on Devour Tour’s Tapas, Taverns & History Tour.
At each stop in the video, I give you some information behind the history of the area, and also a little Google marker with the name of the street or square so you can find it yourself.
So, where do we visit?
1. Plaça Nova - where the entry point to the Roman town was
2. Carrer del Paradís - where there is an amazing Roman temple
3. Behind the Cathedral - where you can see lots of hidden symbols
4. General Archive of the Crown of Aragon
5. Plaça del Rei - did Columbus stand on these steps?
6. Pont del Bisbe - the most photographed site in all of Barcelona… but it’s not as old as it seems!
7. Jewish Quarter (El Call) - a fascinating little tangle of streets with a long history
8. Plaça Sant Felipe Neri - my favourite square in the city… and with a dark secret
9. Plaça Sant Jaume - the perfect place to decode the Catalan independence issue
10. Pont de Mar - the exit point of the old Roman city!

Behind the Scenes: An Epic Holy Week Bar in Seville
Seville's best tapas tours & wine tastings!
Meet Nacho of Taberna La Fresquita—an iconic Holy Week bar in Seville. Holy Week is one of the most important celebrations of the year for locals, and it is lived with the passion and pride we so often associate with the people of Seville.
With somber Semana Santa music in the background, the distinct aroma of incense in the air and the breathtaking images of the spectacular Semana Santa floats lining the walls, establishments like La Fresquita give an insight into Seville's culture many visitors miss out on. Add to that a delicious selection of tapas, ice cold draft beer and Nacho's smiling face looking out at you from behind the bar, and there's nothing not to love!
Here we speak to the man himself about how he came to work in the bar, what he recommends you try when you're there and what exactly it is about Semana Santa that he loves so much. Enjoy!
Want to know more? Join our exlusive Holy Week experience (once a year, and very few spots available!)
Epic Spanish beer tasting!
19 beers. We realise that these are not all of the beers in Spain, but come on! We were lucky to have survived 19.
Ultimately, we wanna see which European country produces the best beers in general, so we decided to first compare some of the Spanish beers and then pitch the three of our best Spanish beers against other countries.
These are individual results:
Nat's top 3 beers:
1st Alhambra Tradicional,
2nd 1906,
3rd Cruzcampo.
Ivan's top 3 beers:
1st San Miguel Manila,
2nd Mahou Maestra,
3rd Amstel Oro.
Which three beers earned most points and qualified for our Epic European beer comparison is something you will have to wait for until you see the next video.

???? ABOUT THIS VID! ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
Here in Spain we love sipping vermouth. It’s one of the most delicious alcoholic drinks you can enjoy. I remember when I first tried it, it was love at first sight. But I didn’t really know what I was drinking, or all the tradition and rules around how we enjoy it here in Spain. Now, dare I say, I’m a bit of a vermouth aficionado, and whenever friends visit Yoly and I in Madrid, he always take them for vermouth.
If you didn’t know what vermouth was… it’s actually a white wine, that’s been fortified and aromotised. In Spain, we generally drink sweet red vermouth, while in Italy they tend to be a little more bitter. Sometimes it’s served on tap, sometimes it’s served from the bottle. But either way, the key to enjoying vermouth is to know WHEN to do it - just before lunch, along with a group of friends. Then you switch over to wine with lunch. But that doesn’t mean you can’t eat tapas with vermouth. You MUST eat tapas with vermouth! Generally it’s simply tapas like olives, potato chips and over canned seafood (yes, we eat and love canned seafood in Spain!).
Some handy Spanish:
Un vermut por favor = I'll have a vermouth, please.
Un vermut de grifo por favor = I'll have a vermouth on tap, please.
THANK YOU to La Hora del Vermut for shouting me the tapas and drinks (all views my own of course!). They have a couple of locations through Madrid (incl. Mercado de San Miguel), all with excellent vermouth and tapas. Check out their details here:
