The Craft Beer Revolution in Munich, Germany
The German Beer Purity Law—known to Bavarians as the Reinheitsgebot has been around for over 500 years. In it, the region of Southern Germany codified just three permissible ingredients for use in beer production: water, barley, and hops. In the mid 1800's they found out that yeast would make up the fourth ingredient based of Louis Pasteur's research.
At a time when craft beer is incorporating increasingly brave, unexpected flavors into the bottle, German drinkers, as a matter of pride, have largely held true to their rudimentary lagers, brewed according to centuries-old tradition.
From my perspective, the American craft beer scene has a huge impact on our local beer scene, concedes Marc Gallo, of Hopfmeister. The he graphic designer-turned-brewer boldly opened an anti-establishment brewery in Munich in 2015, ground zero for grog traditionalism. Gallo was emboldened by a younger generation of German drinkers in their mid-20s to mid-30s, turning to flavor-forward expressions from across the pond; hop-heavy IPAs of San Diego, barrel-aged stouts of the midwest. The cultural shift, as is so often the case, was borne of the city. I guess craft beer is an urban phenomenon, he reasons, noting that his typical clientele are creative types, cooking, home-brewing, creating their own goods, keen to explore different beer styles and flavors.
So how far is the craft beer scene going to go in Bavaria is anyone’s guess, but when it comes to geography, at least, the craft beer revolution knows no boundaries.

If you have one day to eat, this German food tour of Munich will give you some serious satisfaction. I have to admit, I going to multiple back to back restaurants to eat German food is a challenge - German food is so hearty and so filling. By the end of this food tour in Munich, I was ready to sleep immediately!
Here are all the details about the restaurants and prices of the dishes I ate:
1. Andy's Krablergarten
Andy's Krablergarten is known for their schnitzel, and they serve it up in a huge way. The cutlets are made from pork, and they are big and fried fresh. I tried a Hamburg schnitzel with eggs and a Munich style schnitzel with horseradish in the breading. It was fantastic.
Address: Thalkirchner Str. 2, 80337 München, Germany
Price: 10.90 EUR per schnitzel
2. Andechser am Dom
This is a nice German food restaurant, located on the side of Munich Frauenkirche, a major landmark in the heart of Munich. They serve a variety of traditional German Bavarian cuisine. My favorite dish was the mixed sausage plate, but the leberkäse was also good.
Address: Weinstraße 7A, 80333 München, Germany
Total price: 36.30 EUR
3. Ice cream at Schuhbeck's Eissalon
Address: Pfisterstraße 11, 80331 München, Germany
4. Bergwolf
Bergwolf is a German fast food restaurant in Munich, and their speciality is currywurst, a plate of sausage topped in sauce and fries. It’s not the healthiest of all German dishes, but it sure tastes pretty amazing - one of those 3 am kind of dishes.
Address: Fraunhoferstraße 17, 80469 München, Germany
Price: 5.40 EUR
5. Augustiner Bräustuben
Augustiner Bräustuben is a classic German brewery and restaurant in Munich, Germany. You’ll find some very classic Bavarian dishes on their menu and a good selection of beer.
Address: Landsberger Str. 19, 80339 München, Germany
Total price: 24.25 EUR
Thank you for watching this German food tour of Munich. I hope it will provide you with some tips on where to eat amazing German food when you’re in Munich!

Australians Try German Beer | German Beer Tour Hamburg
Today we are in Hamburg, Germany and are spending the day doing the most stereotypical German thing we could think of... Drinking German beer! As it was our only full day to explore this beautiful city, we figured what could be more appropriate than spending the day trying local German beers??
We chose to go on a craft beer tasting/walking tour with Alternative Hamburg, which cost us €35.00 each. The tour took us to three different local venues; The Craft Beer Store, Rathuseum Microbrewery and Schmidtchen Schanze, where we tried a total of six local craft beer brewed locally in Hamburg.
Alternative Hamburg Tours:
Our tour gives you the chance to get in contact with the local brewery scene. Learn about the long history of beer in Hamburg and its relations to the harbor. On this tour, you will visit brewpubs, specialist stores, and bars and taste different styles of beers. Feel the passion of the brewers and taste their unique beers as we walk through the exciting nightlife and craft beer spots in St Pauli´s Sternschanze neighborhood

Some information about the Trappist Breweries:
Our Trappist journey begins in Vleteren, Belgium at the St. Sixtus Abbey where we taste the Blond, 8, and the 12 beers of Westvleteren.
Chimay. The brewery produces three ales as well as a patersbier for the monks themselves which is occasionally sold as Chimay Gold; they are known as Trappist beers because they are made in a Trappist monastery. It was the first brewery to use the Trappist Ale designation on its labels.
Orval is the main brand. It is a 6.2% abv beer. It was first made in 1931, and has a complex and unusual flavor and aroma produced by a unique strain of yeast: Brettanomyces lambicus. The beer is light in color, slightly cloudy, and has a large, foamy head. There is a complex aroma of leather, spice, and many other earthy components.
Rochefort: Around fifteen monks live at Rochefort Abbey, where the first brewery was founded in 1595. The water for the beer is drawn from a well inside the monastery walls.Rochefort uses Pilsener and Munich-type malts, and Hallertau and Golding hops
Achel Brewery or Brouwerij der Sint-Benedictusabdij de Achelse Kluis is a Belgian Trappist brewery, and the smallest of the Belgian Trappist breweries. It is located in the Abbey of Saint Benedict in the Belgian municipality of Hamont-Achel. It brews six Trappist beers.
Westmalle Brewery (Brouwerij der Trappisten van Westmalle) is a Trappist brewery in the Westmalle Abbey, Belgium. It produces three beers, designated as Trappist beer by the International Trappist Association. Westmalle Tripel is credited with being the first golden strong pale ale to use the term Tripel

Brewery Tours | Craft Beer
Watch more Craft Beer Guide videos:
A lot of breweries will offer tours and they are really fun things to do. Most of them will take you through at least part of the facility itself so you can get of, not quite a hands on idea of how to brew, but at least a real good visual idea. You'll see the different steps and you'll come to understand more of what's involved in producing the beer. I suggest, if you want to go on a brewery tour, is to find a brewery near you, or near where you're going to be, and make sure to contact them. Make sure they are giving a brewery tour.
Not all breweries do give tours, but when you find ones that do, often times they'll be set up such that you'll have your tour, then you'll wind up in some sort of tasting room where then you can try the different beers that are available. It's something that more and more brewers are doing and they're seeing the real value in educating the consumers. And there's nothing like tasting a beer that's made so fresh and available right there at the brewery. It can be a real game changer in terms of what styles of beer you like and also just your general appreciation for the product itself. So I highly recommend that you go on brewery tours.
Tasting Munich's OLDEST BEER
A day well spent at a family event, where I tasted Munich's oldest beer. The Augustiner brewery was established in 1328 and tastes good to this day!
