Hello, Europe! 1 - Beer in Paris
For the first episode of Hello, Europe!, we go to the streets of Paris to see how the craft beer scene is evolving in the French capital. We speak to a random (and rather stylish) Parisian, two people who run beer bars, two students from Lyon who are exploring innovation in the food and beverage industry and a Californian who has somehow found his way to one of the best beer bars in Paris.

A New Craft Beer Place in Paris
Gotta keep finding these craft beer spots in Paris. Help me make better videos at and then find me on the internet in all of the usual spots:
(me) (books)
Music by: DJ Quads
My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa and hoping to make the city of light my home base - at least for the foreseeable future. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlog daily, and love pizza a little too much.
FAQ:
How long have you lived in France? On and off for over two years.
What do you miss most about ho- NACHOS
You're always talking about living on some ship. WHAT SHIP? - I made a Draw My Life video that explains a lot here:
Where are you from originally? - Pullman, Washington - a small university/agricultural town near Idaho (and yes, the potatoes are amazing).
What do you film with? - I currently film almost exclusively with my Samsung Galaxy S8:
How do you get those shots where you're walking or running? - A Joby Gorillapod for smartphones, like this:
You drop your phone a lot, how does it survive? - THIS CASE IS AMAZING: (Galaxy S7) - (Galaxy S8) - (iPhone)
What do you edit with? - Adobe Premiere - it's pretty much all I've ever used since high school.
Aren't you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? - Yep. But not too badly - I tend to be careful when I do.
Why are you living in #Paris? - Because I've always wanted to; I feel at home here:
But what are you doing there? - Living it up!
Do you speak French? Oui.
Do you make money off YouTube? - Ha, no. I wish. It took me over 500 videos to make my first $100 off adsense. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - The easiest and best way to support me is through Patreon, where you can pitch in as little as $1/mo to help me make better videos:
I don't trust this Patreon thing - what's your PayPal? - Here's a handy link!
I like PayPal in pink! - Here's my ko-fi if that's your thing (and coffee is your game):
But I want to send you something tangible! - I do have a wishlist on Amazon, though it's a bit complicated with the international shipping situation. This is the US one:
And here's the French one:
Can I come stay with you in Paris? - Have you seen my apartment? It's too small for me as it is!
OK, but how do I use the Metro when I'm there? - I made a handy video for you:
A Paris Brewery Show You Their Ways
BAPBAP (Brewed in Paris, Drunk in Paris) is one of the rare Parisian beers that is actually brewed within the city limits. BAPBAP merges its hops and malts in an inconspicuous building at the centre of Paris – a blink and you will miss it kind of building. But you may not miss this beer in a bar or in shop because BAPBAP has a range of products – from IPAs to the classic lager – that will certainly catch your eye. And though each beer is crafted with a specific direction, all of them adhere to their high standards. So in this video we give you tell you about the life of a beer, from its birth in the husks and the grains to its final fizzy destination. And we tell you this story from the perspective of a handcrafted brewery.
DISCLAIMER: Several steps of the brewing process were omitted for narrative reasons. Please drink responsibly.

Action Bronson Drinks Through Rural France - From Paris with Love (Part 3)
In the third and final installment of the critically-acclaimed smash hit trilogy From Paris with Love we find ourselves starting out at Le Verre Volé. Action is in for a surprise, as Clovis and the crew at the restaurant arranged for a whole yellowfin tuna to be at the restaurant for his arrival. After sampling the fish’s spinal fluid and eating its loin along with beurre noisette, it's on to dinner.
Brutos is a big meat place. Roast chicken and cote de boeuf are on the menu, and they are easily devoured. In the second half of the show the fellas book it to Auvergne, the home of several pioneers of natural wine. A quick sip and a snack with Aurélien Lefort leads to a big tasting in the cellar of À La Natural producer Patrick Bouju. Until next time, mes amis.

The Heineken Experience Amsterdam Netherlands VIP Tour Rock the City Tour Gerard Adriaan Heineken

Heineken Lager Beer is a world-renowned beer with its familiar green bottle and red star on the label. Until 2013 the Dutch version was bottled in brown bottles. Since 1975 most Heineken brand beer was produced at the brewery in in Zoeterwoude, Netherlands accounting for in excess of 2.74 billion liters of Heineken Lager Beer annually. All breweries wholly owned by the Heineken Group produce in excess of 16 billion liters annually in more than 170 countries around the world. This behemoth beer brand traces its humble beginnings to a local brewery, De Hooberg, founded in 1592 in Amsterdam.
Gerard Adriaan Heineken is the founder of the Heineken brand. Looking for his way in the world and having an interest in the process of making beer, Gerard talked his wealthy mother into buying the over 300-year-old De Hooberg (Translated as Haystack) brewery. Keen on finding a brew that was unique in flavor which would differentiate itself from the local beers of the day, Mr. Heineken hired a student of scientist Louis Pasteur, Dr. Elion, to develop a yeast for Bavarian bottom fermentation, a process he was convinced would deliver a unique beer. In 1873 using the yeast developed by Dr. Elion the first bottle of Heineken was brewed.
Heineken began regularly shipping beer to France after it won the Medaille D'Or at the International Maritime Exposition in Paris in 1875. Almost instantly upon its prestigious win, Heineken became the largest exporter of beer to France. It exported a phenomenal 1.7 million gallons annually from its home in Amsterdam.
In his lifetime the Heineken beer founded by Gerard won 2 other honors, Diplome d'Honneurs at the 1883 Colonial Exposition in Amsterdam as well as the Grand Prix at the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris. After his death Heineken also won the Hors Concours Membre du Jury in Paris in 1900. Two of the four awards, the Medaille d'Or and Diplome d'Honneurs are still mentioned on the Heineken labels of todays famous green bottle with the red star on the label. This 154-year-old brewer was twice the recipient of the Creative Marketer of the Year Award.
The Heineken Experience Museum now occupies the original brewery where Mr. Gerard Adriaan Heineken began brewing this now world-famous beer. The Heineken Experience incorporates a visitor center with the historic brewery that Gerard built in 1867. The building was used as the primary brewing facility for Heineken until 1988. A modern, larger brewery was opened on the outskirts of Amsterdam where the massive volume of Heineken beer could be logistically produced.
In 1991, Heineken opened the Heineken Experience, an all-encompassing visitor experience that includes the Heineken Treat and Information Centre, a museum, and tour of the history of Amsterdam’s iconic beer. The Heineken Experience is one of Amsterdam’s most popular tourist attractions.
Today the Heineken Experience includes four levels of historic artifacts coupled with the latest high-tech multi- media technologies along with product exploration and sampling. The significance of the original brewing facility cannot be overstated in the history of Heineken, it also is of major significance to the industrial heritage of Europe. The original Heineken brewery is the anchor point on the European Route of Industrial Heritage, a route that encompasses 845 sites in 29 European countries.
The Heineken Experience is open 365 Days a year with varying tour and last admission times, check the web site for details and prices. The Heineken Experience offers three Tour options:
• Heineken Tour: a 1.5-hour Self-Guided Tour capped off with 2 perfectly chilled beers at the Heineken Best ‘Dam Bar and a free city map of Amsterdam
• The VIP Tour: a unique behind the scenes tour guided by a Heineken® Connoisseur- exclusive access to the hidden bar – 5 Premium Beers paired with Dutch cheeses – a personalized Heineken bottle – a free city map of Amsterdam – VIP tour guests MUST be 18- tour is in English
• The Rock the City Tour – Begins at the Heineken Experience- a canal cruise with a Heineken® Experience Guide- 2 perfectly chilled beers- a free city map of Amsterdam
The Heineken Experience combines the history of the brand, its importance to Amsterdam, as well as its historical significance to Europe and the world of beer. Choose anyone of the three tours depending on your time constraints. Be sure to make time on your literary to experience at least 1 of the tours, it is a treasure of Amsterdam.

Oktoberfest Beer Tasting with Erica, aka Bubble Child! : Paris Vlog #5
Paris is known for its wine, but look a little harder and you'll find one of the coolest beer stores I've ever been to. In honor of Oktoberfest, Erica Von Trapp (of the fantastic YouTube channel Bubble Child) decided to visit the store and then do a beer tasting.
The store is Paris Saint Bière on Rue Charonne and it has over 2,000 beers! The employees are fantastic and the selection is very international and downright impressive.
You guys should all go check out Erica's channel, because we did a gluten-free beer tasting there:
HAPPY OKTOBERFEST!! (This year Oktoberfest is September 19-October 4)

Why You Should Travel to Champagne, France and Do a Wine Tour
You can travel to the Champagne region in France on a train from Paris as a simple day trip and do some amazing wine tours of the Champagne Houses if you get up early and get after it!
We recommend training into Epernay, the capital of the Champagne region of France, and tour the Monet House, as well as a few others if you have time.
It's an aggressive itinerary for a single day trip, but it's possible, and in this travel video, you'll see us make it happen. The location of Epernay is only a couple hours via train from Paris, so don't think it isn't possible.
If you have time, we'd stay a couple nights though, there are so many things to do in Champagne.
