Since the first batch of strawberry jam was made in 1971, Beerenberg has expanded its range to 52 products, and has been exporting since 1986
The History of Beerenberg - South Australia
On September 6, 1969, Grant Paech picked the very first strawberry on the Beerenberg Family Farm in Hahndorf, South Australia.
And now half-century later, the 100% family-owned and operated business is a household name, known for over 100 different jams, condiments, meal bases, and slow cooker sauces, as well as their famous strawberry farm where visitors from around the world visit to pick their own strawberries.
This Beerenberg history video shows where the passion for the farm and taste of the country life began, outlining the milestone moments that helped create this now iconic brand.
It’s a South Australian success story that’s proof that from little things, big things really can grow...

It’s been 45 years since our Dad Grant cooked the first batch of strawberry jam in Grandma’s pan and 45 years since Beerenberg began from the farm here in Hahndorf, South Australia. It’s always good to take stock, appreciate how far we’ve come and to acknowledge all of the help we’ve had along the way. So we’d like to celebrate our brand, our staff and you our customers, thank you for your support over the last 45 years. Things to do in Hahndorf, South Australia
There are so many things you can do at Hahndorf but before I start telling you about them, let me tell you a little about Hahndorf.
Hahndorf was established in 1839 and remains the oldest German town in South Australia and visiting the town will take you a few years back and reminds you of what it was like those day as we experienced at The Cedars so here are the many things you can do there.
Our first visit was to the most loved family strawberry farm, The Beerenberg Strawberry farm. Every time I visit this strawberry farm I leave with some freshly picked strawberries. If you watched the video you can see us going in the Beerenberg shop and we purchased a pass to go on the farm and pick our own strawberries.
I have also written more about this place over at our website:
Then we walked around the town and went into a few shops, very old styled and felt like we were some where else.
If you visit Hahndorf, please be sure to visit the German Village Shop and also be prepared to lose your mind in there.
If you love leather, John Leathersmith is for you, everything leather in there and is very old and dusty there for a great experience.
We strongly recommend going into Chocolate @ N.5 if you love really good chocolate as we were extremely impressed.
We also went into Hahndorf Academy, you will experience history here.
Our last stop was at the Cedars and everything in there was worth visiting, the history, the garden and the pool was all worth visiting.

Exploring Hahndorf, Australia's oldest surviving German settlement
The jewel of the Adelaide Hills, Hahndorf is the oldest surviving German settlement in Australia. Located only half an hours' drive from the city of Adelaide, German heritage can be seen in the many original buildings and culture spills onto the streets of Hahndorf.
Jennifer Adams and family explores all that Hahndorf has to offer, including a visit to the iconic Hahndorf Inn. Built in 1863, the Hahndorf Inn overflows with cheer and celebrates all things German.
While exploring the town, Jen stays on the huge 30-acre property at BIG4 Hahndorf Resort Tourist Park, just a few minutes up the road from the centre of town.
