Iran - Seeking Freedom in a Theocratic Society.
This is an experimental project about my hitch hiking trip from Germany all the ways down to Iran. It took me around 3 months till I made it from Berlin via eastern Europe, Turkey, Tabriz, Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, Kerman, Bam, Yazd to Bandar Abbas in the very South of Iran. Along my journey across Iran I slept on countless Persian carpets via the Couchsurfing app to get in touch with locals and try to understand what drives them. What are their dreams, hopes and desires? What kind of worldview do they have in a Shi'a muslim theocracy? A country where religion and government is not separated from each other. I experienced extraordinary kindness and huge candidness from the people I met in Iran. Hence I am always shocked when I have to hear about it's negative image in the western news. With this video I want to point out that we clearly have to separate the general public of a country from ones government. I generally see more similarities in people from east and west, than differences. Acknowledging this hopefully brings humanity closer together, instead of separating us from each other.

Sari is the provincial capital of Mazandaran and former capital of Iran, located in the north of Iran, between the northern slopes of the Alborz Mountains and southern coast of the Caspian Sea. Notable are Famous Houses such as Kolbadi House and Amir Divan House. Khaneh Kolbadi thick walls kept the lower floor warm in winter while the light, bright upper floor could be opened to through drafts for hot summers. Its orosi windows (wood-framed puzzles of multicoloured glass) supposedly disorientated mosquitoes. The historic Vasir-e Hamam (bathhouse) is behind this house.
