The oldest Mazu temple in Taiwan: Bei-gang Chao-tian Temple
The Bei-gang Chao-tian temple's Matsu statue was brought from China by the monk ShiBi-jeng in 1694, thus the temple has a history of 300-plus years. When you visit Bei-gang Chao-tian temple, you will see a real treasure from our architectural heritage.
The stone fences at the front of temple's entrance surround the Dragon Kings of the four seas stone statues. The work is complex yet restrained, a rare example of stone work.
The small stone lions beside the stone walls were made during the Qing Dynasty. Small yet delicate, the line of the back soft and gentle, the give the overall setting a high artistic value.

More footage shot yesterday at Tien Yuan Temple. My favorite temple with some of my favorite music. The complex comprises 3 temples. There is is the dominating pagoda temple. Below that is a more traditional Taiwan temple that hosts an artesian aquifer of which there are many on Taiwan due to it's mountains.
It was windy and that presents fretful flying conditions. DJI's brilliant GPS/satellite software makes it reasonable.

The view is taken from the north of Taiwan, north of Taipei, and is looking directly south. The sprawling complex with powder blue roofs beyond the temple is the main maintenance yard and garages for the Taipei MRT train system.
Today was the first time I visited this temple even though I lived near it for years. The temple and its grounds are exceedingly tidy and trim. Like the Xingtian Temple in Taipei it is unique in that there are no offering tables nor is incense burnt. Spartan.
The grounds are very green and beautiful. The surrounding gardens are meticulously maintained. From the rear of the temple there's a trail head that leads into the woods above.
This temple is the Beitou branch of the widely visited Xingtian Temple on Minquan East Road in Taipei, yet it in fact pre-dates the main temple. The principle deity here is Guansheng Dijun. The Beitou Branch is commonly known as Zhongyi Temple due to its proximity to the former Zhongyi Railway Station and Zhongyi MRT Station today.
This grand temple covers an area of about 8.0 hectares. The facilities include a library, lushly planted grounds, trails, landscaped courtyards, rest pavilions, a parking lot and public restrooms. The Zhongyi Trail head is also located here for visitors wishing to explore the scenic natural surroundings.

二級古蹟北港朝天宮-廟宇建築藝術之美 Beigang Chao-tian Temple
北港朝天宮，俗稱北港媽祖廟，位於臺灣雲林縣北港鎮中山路178號，是一座主要奉祀媽祖的廟宇，1694年（清康熙33年），由樹璧和尚(臨濟正宗第34代)自福建省湄洲天后宮(朝天閣)迎請媽祖金身，於北港建廟收徒傳法。朝天宮被列為中華民國國定古蹟。
北港朝天宮屋頂為重脊飛簷，本殿構造 朝天宮位於北港溪西側，平面布局座北朝南，為九開間、四進、兩廂的縱深式廟宇，有「四落八殿，一埕七院」之稱。三川殿寬三開間，進深採九架桁、四柱作法，棟架為二通三瓜式，前後對稱為其特徵，屋頂則採重檐「假四垂」構法，為陳應彬匠師當時常用手法。二側龍虎門亦採重檐歇山，但上下雙檐使用同一根柱子，屋頂下藻井為扁長形，採「長枝八角蜘蛛結網」的少見作法。正殿亦面寬三開間，前緊連面寬三開間之軒亭式拜殿，上層並設有平座欄杆。兩側鐘鼓樓為民國52年所加建，為仿木構造之水泥建築。後殿供奉觀世音菩薩，亦為三開間、四柱、九架桁構法，屋頂使用落水的硬山形式，殿前泉州白石雕蟠龍石柱，為清乾隆時期作品。
1694年（清康熙33年），佛教臨濟宗第34代禪師樹璧和尚從中國福建省湄洲天后宮移駕一尊由宋代所雕塑的軟身媽祖神像至臺灣，因此北港朝天宮至今保有全國媽祖廟唯一以佛教進行祭祀儀典的傳統。
正殿（又稱聖母殿）奉祀媽祖，殿前陪祀中壇元帥和虎爺，左右為千里眼與順風耳二將軍。
