Beidaihe Beach | Bohai Sea | China | Qinhuangdao | 北戴河 | 渤海 |秦皇岛
Beidaihe is a popular beach resort and a district of the city of Qinhuangdao, Hebei province on China's Bohai Sea coast. It has an area of 70.14 km2 (27.08 sq mi) and, as of 2008, a population of 66,000, as well as a coastline of 22.5 km (14.0 mi). It is also known as a birding haven.
The Beidaihe Beach Resort stretches 10 km (6.2 mi)from east to west, from the Yinjiao Pavilion to the mouth of the Daihe river. The beach itself is covered with fine yellow sand stretching some 100 meters to the sea. The water is shallow. Mount Lianfeng near the beach has two peaks covered by abundant green pines and cypresses. Lush vegetation, caves, decorated pavilions, secluded paths, and winding bridges have made it attractive to visitors from throughout China.
English railway engineers were the first Europeans to discover the fishing village in the 1890s and it was not long before wealthy Chinese and foreign diplomats from Beijing and Tianjin made the village a popular destination.

China Vice Premiere Xi Jinping appeared
at Beidaihe on the August 5.
Media in Hong Kong and Taiwan media think that
it is not much longer before the Beidaihe meetings take place.
However, commentators point out that the Beidaihe
meetings may have started already.
However, whether or not the results of the meeting
can bring about a revolution remains unknown.
High level CCP officials continue to appear
at the popular summer retreat spot of Beidaihe.
Hong Kong and Taiwan media continue
to ponder the date of Beidaihe meeting.
On August 5, China Central Television reported Xi Jinping
met with experts and grass-root talent vacationing at Beidaihe.
Taiwan Central News Agency believes this report
shows Beidaihe meetings will take place soon.
Current affairs commentator Wu Fan points out
the CCP has never had a high level of clarity.
Releasing this type of report may signify
the Beidaihe meetings have already started.
Wu Fan: In the past, Beidaihe meetings
have been announced after they take place.
After the meeting ends, a simple draft will be published.
I think the Beidaihe meetings have started already.
At least the preparatory meetings have started.
They release this information to tell
everyone they are already there.
Beijing political observer Hua Po also believes
the Beidaihe meetings may have already started.
Hu Jintao's trusted aid Ling Jihua joined Xi Jingping
to meet with experts and grass-root talents.
This indicates Hu jintao is also at Beidaihe.
This year's Beidaihe meetings are more
mysterious than have been in the past.
International media has also shown
great interest towards the meetings.
Wu Fan points out that this is because internal fighting
within the CCP is intense, and outside pressures are high.
Wu Fan: One reason is infighting,
another reason is external pressure.
The reason of infighting is that there
is disagreement over the name list.
Who will be chosen from Central Military Commission?
This issue is still being negotiated. This is the first reason.
The second reason is how to carry out their policies.
Hu Jintao's remarks on July 23 seem to set a direction, to
continue following socialism with Chinese characteristics.
That means abandoning Maoism,
and removing Bo Xilai's faction.
External pressures have come from Beijing's devastating
7.21 floods and protests occurring all over China.
Hua Po points out that the recent protests involving young
generations shows different voices calling for reform.
Hua Po: The Shifang and Qidong incidents
highlighted that the young generation is remarkable.
Anything could happen. Although the CCP can make slightly
changes, but I doubt whether the young generation can be satisfied.
There are two issues that are also receiving
much attention in this year's Beidaihe's meetings.
One is the arrangement of personnel, and the other one
is the direction of reform and how to establish it.
This revolves around whether there will
be a breakthrough and change during the meeting?
Hua Po: I think CCP leaders are in a position
to consider the entire situation.
As for the current dangers, they see them very clearly.
They also have the desire to change,
but whether or not change this is possible or
can be a successful still poses a huge question mark.
If the CCP wants to change now, first of all it depends
on whether the CCP has the courage to change.
It also depends on whether or not the
people give them time to do so.
Apple Daily points out that it is possible the consensus
on the general election may be reached at Beidaihe meetings.
If there is no change in the method used to appoint CCP
members of the Politburo of the Central Committee
and Standing Committee, bloody trails resulting
from CCP power struggles will not end.
2012 is also an important election year in the U.S.
Hua Po expresses that in comparison, even meeting dates
for the Beidaihe meetings are unclear.
The 18th People's Annual Congress may be extended
whereas in the U.S., the election system is very clear.
Under CCP rule, Chinese people do not have the right
to elect rulers, and it is a great tragedy that they do not have the rights to participate.

Bohai Sea is surrounded by coastal areas of Tianjin, Tangshan, Qinhuangdao, Jinzhou and Dalian cities. Qinhuangdao is a port city in northeastern Hebei province. It took us almost four hours from Beijing on a slow train but can also have option for a high speed train (which takes almost 1 and half an hour for the same distance). There are many attractions like ShanHai Guan, summer resort Beidaihe, Great Wall, Yansai Lake etc. Here I am sharing my first ever, wonderful Parasailing Experience at TongDaiHe point in Bohai sea.

Heat Wave Bakes Central, North China
An intense heatwave has baked swathes of central and northern China with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius on Monday.
The National Meteorological Center continued to issue a yellow alert heat warning on Tuesday, with high temperatures expected in the Hebei and Shandong provinces.
Central and northern parts of the country have endured scorching heat since Saturday, with temperatures soaring over 38 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days.
Meteorologists say the current heatwave has been the most widespread of the year, with residents in Beijing and Tianjin and in Hebei, Henan and Shandong provinces all feeling the heat.
The heatwave is powerful over north China to the Huai River valley, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius in some areas. So it has been the most powerful heatwave since this year in terms of its intensity and sheer coverage, said Ma Xuekuan, chief forecaster of the National Meteorological Center.
The heatwave has worsened the ongoing drought conditions in northern China, where more than 470,000 square kilometers of land have been affected by hot and dry weather.
Driven by unbearably high temperatures, tourists have swarmed to the city of Qinhuangdao in Hebei Province, a summer resort well-known for its beautiful Beidaihe beach. The city's public gardeners have stuck to their posts under the scorching sun to maintain a clean and comfortable urban environment during this peak period of tourism.
Local trade unions sent staff members to deliver drinking water and first aid kits to the region's outdoor workers and have also set up rest centers to allow workers to take a break.
Weather forecasters say the heatwave is expected to come to an end on Wednesday when the arrival of thunderstorms may reduce temperatures below 32 degrees Celsius.

Qínhuángdǎo is a port city in northeastern Hebei province, People's Republic of China. It is about 300 km (190 mi) east of Beijing, on the Bohai Sea, the innermost gulf of the Yellow Sea.Its population during the 2010 census was 2,987,605, with 820,800 living in the urban area of 3 districts.
Since the elevation of Tianjin to a provincial-level municipality, Qinhuangdao is the chief port of Hebei province. The Qin emperor Qin Shi Huang is said to have sought immortality on an island in the Haigang district, but did not find it.
Qinhuangdao has three main developed areas:
Beidaihe: A summer seaside resort for senior government officials. Many political decisions affecting China are made here, making it the equivalent to resorts in Maine or Camp David in Maryland, United States.[2]
Haigang: the harbor city. Qinhuangdao proper. Home of Yan Shan University, the leading university in NE Hebei province.
Shanhaiguan: a popular tourist destination, featuring the eastern end of the Great Wall.
Qinhuangdao's Olympic Sports Centre Stadium was used as an Olympic Competition Venue (Football Preliminary) during the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Climate
Qinhuangdao has a monsoon-influenced humid continental climate (Köppen Dwa), with four distinct seasons. Winters are cold and dry due to the Siberian high, which can cause winds to blow in from the northwest, minimising the oceanic influence: the monthly daily average temperature in January is −4.8 °C (23.4 °F), colder than Beijing's −3.7 °C (25.3 °F).[3] Summers are hot and humid due to the East Asian Monsoon, often allowing onshore flows; summer is also when the location on the coast moderates the weather the most: the average high temperature in July here is 28.1 °C (83 °F), as compared to 30.9 °C (88 °F) in Beijing.[3] As measured by daily mean temperature, July and August are equally warm, averaging 24.7 °C (76.5 °F). The annual mean is 11.0 °C (51.8 °F), and 70% of the annual precipitation falls from June to August.

Where Great Wall of China Meets The Sea | Starting Point of Great Wall | Seaside Great Wall
Beidaihe Scenic Spot is a famous summer resort. It is located in the southwest of Qinhuangdao City. Its coastline, seaside attractions and convenient transportation all make it a popular destination for travelers. The region around Qinghuangdao has a temperate climate, with a monsoon cycle and four distinct seasons. It is neither too hot in the summer nor too cold in winter. On average, there are only about 8 days a year when temperatures reach 86F or higher. The lowest average temperatures rarely reach below 50F, even in the winter, thanks to the Bohai Sea currents. This makes Beidaihe convenient to visit year-round, although the best times to visit are from May to October.
After arriving at Qinhuangdao You will easily find the way to go to the Seaside Great Wall.

Nandaihe - part 1
Situated 15 kilometers southwest of Qinhuangdao, Nandaihe Beach is a nationally recognized scenic attraction of China. Washed continiously by the Bohai Sea, the beach is two kilometers wide and 10 kilometers long with the bay winding along. Being a gentle beach, Nandaihe is ideal for sea baths in the steamy heat. As far back as 1898, the Qing government officially turned the beach into a summer resort. Since 1949, when New China was founded, over 2,000 restaurants, shops, hotels, and guesthouses have been built on Beidaihe Beach, making it one of the most famous tourist attractions in North China.
