Range Rover Sport (2018) Dragon Challenge – EXTREME CLIMB
New Range Rover Sport PHEV 2018 manages record breaking feat with Formula E driver.
A dizzying 99 turns and 999 daunting steps didn’t stop the new Range Rover Sport PHEV from completing a world-first at one of China’s most famous landmarks. The petrol-electric performance SUV has become the first vehicle to climb the stairs to the natural rock arch of Heaven’s Gate.
The challenge began at the bottom of the legendary 11.3km Tianmen Mountain Road (known as the Dragon Road). The showroom standard Range Rover Sport P400e took on the demanding course, with Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s Ho-Pin Tung behind the wheel and the Terrain Response 2 system in Dynamic mode.
At the summit of the road, the Formula E driver optimised Terrain Response for the second part of the challenge, conquering the towering 45-degree staircase of 999 steps leading to China’s legendary Heaven’s Gate using a combination of Ingenium petrol and electric battery power.
The new PHEV powertrain gives the Range Rover Sport a zero-emission EV range of up to 50km when fully charged but Ho-Pin Tung used its advanced 300PS Ingenium petrol engine and 116PS electric motor to make short work of the road section of the challenge. The performance SUV then showed its uncompromised all-terrain credentials by climbing the steep staircase to the natural rock arch.

STORYLINE:
North Korean envoy, Li Gun arrived in Beijing on Tuesday after informal talks with US representatives in Germany, amid tensions over Pyongyang's plans for a long-range rocket launch.
Speaking at Beijing airport, Li told reporters that the discussion was very candid and issues such as denuclearisation were discussed.
Pyongyang says it plans to fire a observation satellite into orbit on the back of the long-range rocket, as part of celebrations marking late President Kim Il Sung's 100th birthday.
The United States and other nations are pressuring North Korea to cancel the launch, saying it will be viewed as a cover for a long-range missile test and violates UN Security Council resolutions.
The discussion was natural, in-depth and honest rather than confrontation, we decided to solve existing issues through dialogue, Li Gun said.
But he insisted the satellite launch was intended for peaceful purposes.
We told them that that everyone should consider the satellite launch as an act with a peaceful purpose, and that they should all take an objective and fair stance about it, he told reporters.
Meanwhile, North Korea's ruling party has announced it will hold a political conference just before the controversial satellite launch.
The state-run Korean Central News Agency reported early on Monday that the Workers' Party conference will be held on 11 April in Pyongyang.
North Korea's new leader, Kim Jong Un, is expected to gain new titles at the conference.
The political gathering takes place just before the start of a five-day window when North Korea says it will launch its satellite into space.

Hong Kong Protesters Tie-Up Reporter they Thought Was Chinese Spy
Protesters clashed with police outside Hong Kong’s airport after a standoff over a man protesters beat alleging he was an undercover cop from the mainland. The airport suspended check-ins for departing flights -- its second straight day of major service disruptions -- as embattled local leader Carrie Lam warned that the city risked sliding into an “abyss.”
Hundreds of black-shirted protesters staged a sit-in at the departures hall at Hong Kong International Airport, preventing some checked-in passengers from reaching their planes. Airlines including Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. had already canceled hundreds more flights Tuesday, the day after the government decided to briefly shut the airport during a mass demonstration in the arrivals area.
The interruptions follow a weekend of violence that saw police fire tear gas into a subway station and shoot rubber bullets at close range.

We, of course, discussed this issue in our talks and I told Premier Wen that there are in Germany and in the German parliament different views on this topic (arms embargo), even views that don't comply with my own. STORYLINE:
China signed a one (b) billion euro (1.3 (b) billion US dollar) deal to buy Airbus jetliners on Monday as German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder began a visit that was expected to include talks on Beijing's hopes for Europe to end a ban on arms sales to China.
The German chancellor received a warm welcome from Premier Wen Jiabao, who referred to his visit as another family meeting at the start of talks in the Great Hall of the People, the seat of China's legislature in central Beijing.
The Airbus deal calls for a state company that buys aircraft for China's airlines to purchase 23 of the European consortium's A319, A320 and A321 jets, according to German officials.
Germany's DaimlerChrysler AG is a major shareholder in the European consortium that owns Airbus.
Among other deals, China also signed a 360 (m) million euro (480 (m) million US dollar) contract to buy railway locomotives from
German industrial giant Siemens AG, Schroeder's delegation announced.
Schroeder, who was on his sixth trip to China, told Wen he planned to make such visits a regular annual event.
No other details of their talks were immediately released.
The German leader also attended the laying of a cornerstone for a new Beijing factory built by DaimlerChrysler and a Chinese joint-venture partner.
Schroeder was to meet President Hu Jintao on Tuesday before visiting the northeastern city of Changchun.
Schroeder's visit comes as Beijing is pressing the EU to lift its ban on weapons sales to China, imposed after the
bloody 1989 crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrations centered around Tiananmen Square.
Beijing authorities have called the embargo a remnant of a «Cold War mentality.»

South Korean President Moon stresses trust, friendship in opening new chapter in S. Korea...
한중 정상회담 소규모 진행 중... 문 대통령, 신뢰와 우의 바탕으로 새로운 시대 열자
It's day 2 of South Korean President Moon Jae-in's four-day state visit to China.
The highlight of the day: a bilateral summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Our chief Blue House correspondent Moon Connyoung is traveling with the president.
She joins us from Beijing.
Connyoung, the two leaders have concluded the talks for today?
The two presidents' third bilateral summit since South Korean president Moon Jae-in took office has come to a close.
To recount the series of events this evening here in Beijing... President Moon's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping kicked off with an official welcoming ceremony by President Xi at the Great Hall of the People.
As is customary with most state visits, the South Korean president and Frist Lady Kim Jung-sook were greeted by honor guards, a military band and 21 gun salutes.
The two leaders got right down to business marching ahead with an expanded bilateral summit. Now, the meeting lasted twenty minutes longer than the initially scheduled xx which was followed by the signing of more than a dozen memorandum of understandings for bilateral cooperation in various sectors.
Presidents Moon and Xi faced each other again afterwards... for a smaller scale bilateral which allows only a few aides to accompany the two presidents as they speak.
Now, during the expanded bilateral, South Korean President Moon touched upon a number of issues of interest.
One, the South Korea leader reaffirmed his desire to open a new chapter for bilateral relations based on trust and friendship between the two leaders.
He also drew commonalities between himself and President Xi, highlighting their shared value of putting people's interest before anything else in running the nation.
Based on such consensus, Mr. Moon said he hoped the two countries could together create momentum for future growth engines and cooperative projects.
On North Korea... the South Korean leader said he anticipated discussions with his Chinese counterpart to come up with specific cooperative measures for a peaceful solution to North Korea's nuclear issue and to establish lasting peace on the Korean peninsula.
Now, Chinese President Xi Jinping also agreed that this was a critical moment for South Korea, China bilateral relations and that the two nations have experienced a deterioration in ties due to reasons that we are all aware of.
He also said he valued the relationship and would work for a vision that's mutually beneficial through cooperation over a wide range of issues.
